I was thinking the very same thing today.  I was off and I wanted to carry the spirit needless to say and give her a little work out.  my usual day revolves around work so the swisstool is great in that role; heavy duty, big, and as Ive mentioned I really prefer the blunt(ish) pliers.
this tool came to me by way of a snipe after I lost an auction for a pinchy.   this tool is pretty awesome for me as an off day carry because ive mentioned while I don't mind having several things on me I like to go thinner if possible and this fits the bill.  im still not a fan of the scissors.

I cut up a box my little vac came in,  I tightened up screw on a little tailgate grill, I cut open the glaze on the cinnamon rolls im having later, I adjusted a small screw on a window crank, I opened a can and all tools with the exception of the scissors performed wonderfully.  to scissors seems to get bound up possibly because they don't open enough ( I don't know ).

which do I like more?
monrogue how can I answer of the 3 kids I have which one do I like best?  hahaha  I love them all and I love them both.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it works I think.  Hard to choose between the two I'm sure, not that I have a Swisstool to have to make that choice.  I don't need the heavier duty MTs really, but I'm still curious about them ;)

i cant get over how wonderful this tool is.  its weird how they ( swisstool and spirit ) are so similar and yet very different ( size and shape )  and what each was seemingly designed for. i like the slender make of it and i like butter blade too.  i didn't realize how slim it was even after seeing countless videos and comparisons.  i love how Victorinox packs so much into these tools and while i really like the crate tool i understand why its not on this one.

I felt the same way the first time I held my Spirit.  Pics and whatnot don't do them justice really, until you see and handle one for yourself.  The bottle opener on the Spirit is also the crate opener I believe.  It's thick and solid.  I love how most of the tools other than the main 4 (knife, saw, file and scissors) have multiple functions designed within them.  Overall I think the Spirit packs the most punch so to speak compared to my other MTs.

you are totally right it packs quite a punch.  with the plus kit this tool really has it all and other than the sheath not having a belt clip and the scissors ( again they are fine just not explorer awesome ) this tool for size and capability is really quite exceptional.  funny how before i got this or the swisstool i thought id have a hard time using them because they are so shiny and pretty.  i have no problem using this tool as that what it was meant for and it will hold up well im certain.

I ordered two of those RT Spirits yesterday, fueled primarily by burnside's photo...am I crazy to want to get yet another one? I mean...what if something catastrophic happens and both of mine get magically damaged...and I can't find anymore? WHAT THEN!?

Am I crazy?

Those are gorgeous... I'm excited to try this puppy out. I decided against the third RT, I'll have to make due with 2. My main reason is that there could be some more limited edition alox on the horizon, so I have to keep some revolving funds available in case that happens.

I kind of splurged and got some of those Sea Pioneers Tim had, so the funds are running low.

Anyway, I'll be back with some photos, with which I'll join your discussion officially. :D  :tu:

Hey there and welcome to MTO! There were ten of these listed on ebay by brookstoneco a day or two ago. After I posted about it in the Auctions/Deals sub-forum, there are now only two left... They're going quickly, so if you want to scoop one up, you better act fast.

Here is a link to the ebay sale...

Swiss Knife Shop apparently has some in stock currently also...but they don't ship to the UK. I'd be glad to forward one to you though if you wanted.

I would contact them first via email or by phone before placing an order. I'm think that I remember contacting them through their chat, and they said that it was not in stock. I would just double check to be sure.

TYVM for the offer but I'm now in two minds whether to opt for the standard Spirit or the Limited Edition. Albeit the RT coating looks amazingly appealing, probably also offer more protection from scratches. A question comes to mind whether I would feel comfortable with daily usage for fear of damage or would I keep it stored away in a cabinet and drool infrequently.

Contrary to popular preferences, I prefer the sheepsfoot blade, not particular found of it being serrated then again I have plans to grind it straight. The most important factor is that due to the relatively low price of the standard Spirit, I would not mind using it with enthusiasm.

Two links for comparison, I would be happy with either but which is more suitable ?
If I purchased the RT, I may still have to make another purchase for usage ?

Dilemmas, dilemmas.................

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane! Got into work today, and the two Spirit RTs were delivered yesterday. The box was waiting for me, and now I can enjoy! Woot!  :mail:

I'm enjoying this tool so far, it's a real departure from what I've gotten used to with Leatherman. I have some questions though, I'd be interested to get your guys' input.

My plier head is a little loose. I've read that it's fairly normal, and doesn't bother me. However it seems that the wire cutters don't cut as cleanly as they could. Is that normal? Wire cutting isn't too pivotal to my life, but I figured I'd ask what the consensus was on the plier head.

Since the scissors don't open all the way, how would one go about sharpening them? I just sharpened the scissors on my SAK last night on my Sharpmaker and they're brilliant now, but they open fully and these smaller ones don't. Anyone sharpen them?

Thanks for the input gents, here's my obligatory photo:  :multi:

Welcome to the Spirit Club  :D In my experience its quite normal for the Spirit plier head to have a little play in the jaws and my only gripe with the Spirit is its poor wire cutters  :( although they are pretty good on hard wire but struggle on soft thinner wire.

Thank you for the reassurance. Yeah, the plier is a bit loose, but it doesn't bother me all that much. If it's normal and not just mine, then no worries. I have the kind of luck that nets me lemons and defective things, and my worry has aged me around 50 extra years...  :B:

Been using this thing around the office today, and it's a lot of fun. It feels great.

The scissors are pretty nice, and my original iffy feelings about them are gone. But still...how the smurf do I sharpen them? I read the one could pry off the spring bar to get them apart, but I can't seem to be able to do that. Granted, it may be a while before I need to sharpen them, but I'm curious how this captured spring thing will work for that.

Since there is a lifetime warranty on Vic products, I imagine that if they ever needed serious sharpening, you could probably send them into Vicotionox or a Vic service center in the states for sharpeneing or replacement. Unless you can find out a good way to sharpen them, I think that might be the only solution.

Only purchased the Standard cheapo   :climber: as I have plans for blah blah blah blah and the black coating may be of hindrance. Also this Month's budget was already spent a Month ago, so every little bit of savings will help.

Received the cheapo this afternoon..............thought the price was too good to be true............

Yes, I'm very disappointed with the received Spirit MultiTool but that's only because the item is not new, all the implements had been used or tested by someone and the seller didn't even wipe the dirt off the blade before he dispatched this product as "New"..............
I'm going to RMA this item and purchase another elsewhere.

I need new...........it's just one of those things, I prefer the tools not to have others paw prints.
