I've not carried my Spirit in an age.  Not because I don't think it's one of the best MTs ever made, just that it doesn't meet "reason free" carry UK knife laws.

Would any law enforcement go out of their way to give you grief for carrying it Gareth?  I know we typically don't go looking for things like that here unless the person is going out of their way to draw attention to themselves.

Fantastic review of the Spirit XBS.
And also a great survival item tip: cellulloid guitar picks are quite flammable.

Go a Swisstool Spirit, with the rectangular serrated blade. Same tools as the Spirit X has save the blade change. Was going to send the Spirit X to a leathercrafter in Texas to make a special holder for it with dragon scale looks.

The blade looks like it could be used to spread stuff over bread or toast quite easily. And after work I decided I wanted to take the old streering wheel cover off cause that thick rubber was getting too hot to handle. Didn't know if this blade could handle it. It cut right through that old rubber like it was paper! Was quite impressed. Only bad thing is when it comes to sharpening it. Not overly experienced sharping serrated with the Triangle Sharpmaker.

And... I like the brownish colored nylon holder too. The leather one I had with the Spirit X is getting wimpy and flimsy at the belt loop area. Thin leather... :ahhh

I've had similar experience with mine.  That blade performs way above expectations.  Sharpening it is something I haven't had to do yet.

Victorinox serrated blades are great, I don't have it on the Spirit but on an 08 Soldier. Which I believe is the same step of serration. The sharpening is pretty easy with the Victorinox dual sharpener pen. I don't use the ceramic "X" part but the grey one. Firstly sharpen only at the side where the serrations are cut. Blade at appropriate angle and put one "tooth" of the serration in the groove. Draw the knife across the sharpener without that tooth leaving the groove. Repeat 2-3-4 times per tooth until you get the hole blade. Then turn the knife and stroke the other side 2-3 times as you'd sharpen a standard knife. That's it.

Gorgeous!!

So are these Belgium military issue?

A swisstool was displayed in 2017 with a sign saying that it belonged to the Belgian military.

Admittedly, they take getting used to.
Regular use while holding it in a hammer grip works well as my fingers are placed behind the knobs.
Opening the regular blade does push the knob from the rescue blade in my hand a little but nothing unbearable.

Apart from that, opening and closing the blade feels a bit like a Benchmade Axis lock which is still my most favourite locktype to date.

So I'm a bit on the fence...
It works, and it works well but I can't help myself but feel as if it's a solution that was cobbled on an existing tool.

The fact that it's rather unique at this point does add to the charm and opening/closing a Spirit's blade single handedly in a smooth operation is something I wasn't dreaming of experiencing a few weeks ago.

I should also mention that I looked at Ethrealicer's post about it a few months ago and he mentioned that the sheath deformed from the knobs.

I got a completely different type of sheath!
A nylon Molle sheath with velcro closure, no Vic markings apart from a yet unknown item number on the back. To me it looks like a military order sheath so I can only assume it's the sheath that has been requested by the Australian defence forces.
The tool sits perfectly inside and the knobs are completely clear of any interference of the sheath.

You can try your very best and still not get one :D
Rumours are it might be released for the Australian civilian market in October though.

Hey folks, I've never owned the Sprit but have had a few Leatherman tools over the years.  I'd order a Spirit if I can convince myself there's a legitimate difference between the two.  Aside from the possibly different tool combinations, how would you differentiate the qualities of Vic Spirit from the Leatherman?  Help me buy one!

I was like you since I owned more Leatherman MTs and a few Victorinox SAKs, but never a Victorinox MT....until yesterday. I've been rationalizing that my Rebar and ST300 are all the medium and large sized MTs I need and have been ignoring the SwissTool and Spirits.

But yesterday I finally got a Spirit and all I can is WOW. You really have to experience it by touching it to know the quality build is much better than a Leatherman. It feels like a precision tool...and even a man's jewelry.

What makes it better than any LM is the lifetime warranty Victorinox gives, I've read! My Spirit is a keeper and I'm so happy to be a member of this prestigious club!  :hatsoff:
