Nope mine just had the Karda :)

Which is fine, as it's a 4 inched, recurved bushcraft knife, instead of the silly little one's you usually get :)

Where's the proper link to that one then? >:(  :D
Ahem!...still wondering how you got the single karda setup...khuk-tease :twak: :D

I had a Kukri when I was a teenager. I did some trading with my friends and ended up with it. I have no idea if it was a good one or a cheap copy but I had fun with it. Until my Mom saw me playing with it and told me to put it up before I scare the neighbors. Since I couldn't play with it anymore I traded it for something else that I could play with.

What distinguishes the Sirupate? A longer, more slender blade?

Pretty much :)

The emphesis is much more on fighting, rather than bushcraft/survival :)

And they feel so fast in the hand. Think beefy machete >:D

Mmmm...beefy...

Have you ever tried the Chakmak as a flint striker? They are supposedly made to function that way in addition to being a steel. I'd have less objection to the traditional Karda/Chakmak pair being in the sheath if it did work that way.

I never really got it to work, as I think it really does rely on having absolutely bone dry tinder, and given how small the striking area is anyway (especially if you've anything more than tiny hands) it was more than a little fiddily :-\

So while I think it's possible given the right conditions. I wouldn't want to bet my life on using one as a firesteel ;)

What you probably need is some charcloth. So it will throw sparks at least then?

Well I'm going back about 8-10 years, but yes it did throw some (feeble if i recall) sparks. But not to the degree that my old firesteel (which Ryan now has) did :)

I can't get any sparks of my Indian or Nepali...they are pretty low quality Khuks  >:(

...just wondering if the more expensive ones were made to function properly.

Well the Tora one's are exquisitely well made, especially for the money :)

Certainly if it was made in the west it'd cost around the £250-300 mark :)

I bought them years ago...the Nepali one is stamped '89

I suspect both of them were made by Windlass Steelcrafts as I bought them from Atlanta Cutlery - they still sell the same models today.

I'm suspecting you are correct about that...twenty years ago these were the only Khukuris readily available for purchase.

Yeah and I suspect during the last 20 years customers have demanded better quality and they seem to be getting that now,I mean if your living is dependant on making kukri then making/selling quality kukri's will keep you housed and fed I guess ;)
