What distinguishes the Sirupate? A longer, more slender blade?
Mmmm...beefy...Have you ever tried the Chakmak as a flint striker? They are supposedly made to function that way in addition to being a steel. I'd have less objection to the traditional Karda/Chakmak pair being in the sheath if it did work that way.
What you probably need is some charcloth. So it will throw sparks at least then?
I can't get any sparks of my Indian or Nepali...they are pretty low quality Khuks ...just wondering if the more expensive ones were made to function properly.

I bought them years ago...the Nepali one is stamped '89I suspect both of them were made by Windlass Steelcrafts as I bought them from Atlanta Cutlery - they still sell the same models today.
I'm suspecting you are correct about that...twenty years ago these were the only Khukuris readily available for purchase.
