It intrigues me because it's looks all Victorinox, yet there is a Wenger tang stamp on it.
Googled a bit, found some info on it, but don't know really what this is.

It's called a Wenger Premier. More info: http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Premier

Essentially a Vic Bantam, made by Vic for Wenger (they are the same company now after all). AFAIK, the knife is 100% Victorinox and just branded as Wenger. On yours the Wenger Swiss Cross has worn off (it's creen printed on).

For Christmas, my son got me a Ranger Grip 61 like this one:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/wenger-rangergrip-genuine-swiss-army-knife.html

It's red...didn't opt for the non traditional colors...and has the black rubber "grip" features. It flicks open so nicely! The best part is its bad-ass blade compared to my "regular" SAK blades that scream "whittling" or "cutting open a package." I've had a few Vics, but this is my first Wenger.

I spent some time polishing the scales on this older Ranger with Hoffritz markings. I like the older Camping inlays on this knife. The knife is tang stamped with the Hoffritz logo and has the metal inlay "Hoffritz". It also has the older fine screwdriver but is missing the tools found on newer Rangers like the "Hook" and the "Chisel".

How do you go about polishing the scales, without damaging the writting or the shield on them. Sandpaper? Polishing compound? Fairy dust? I have several Swiss Army knives that could do with having their scales polished.

Its been discussed here several times so you could do a search for other forum posts and I have several blog posts about the process I use to get good results. Basically its takes time and good fine grit sandpaper. I use some sandpapers from this source https://micro-surface.com/ but you could use any as long as it is good quality.

I just recieved my Great Grandfathers Wenger on my visit home for the hollidays, I believe it to be an early 1950's vintage. How does one mangle a corkscrew?

My latest SAK's: a tinker (91mm) and a compact, both in shiny red.

Got to say, I'm lovin' that compact above with black scales!

Regards, Jon.

Wow! That is mangled! Someone sure put some torque in the wrong direction on that corkscrew! Great knife. I like the shields on the older Wenger knives.

Here is a red alox Victorinox Duchess. One of those rare dog bone shaped knives with strange scales. You will also find these in stainless steel and silver alox.

With some patience and a steady hand you may be able to fix it or replace it. That's a nice gift.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?
