Received a Classic with US Forest Service logo:

This makes a nice combination with the US Forest Service Huntsman I already had:

But of course the Classic will always be overshadowed by the Huntsman  :D

Flea market find of the day: Dutch Army Knife ==> Royal Army (KL89)
It was not in really good shape: The awl was badly beaten, the small screw driver on the can opener was bent and it is -still- hard to open (I suspect the Pin to be bent too), and the blade was dull, slightly bent and scratched.

- soaked in WD40 to be able to open the can opener
- tried to save the awl ("gently" hammered on a small anvil) it still in bad shape, but at least it can open/close without scratching the blade more than it already is.
- unbent the can opener tip (I can't do anything with the bent pin)
- unbent the blade edge, and sharpened it: it is now razor sharp.
- oiled everything

and here is the result:
Nice find  :salute:

Thank you :)
Considering its shape I'm not sure it was such a good deal for the 10€ I gave xD
But, as it is my first DAK and is older than I am,... worth it!

 thanks for making me feel like an antique.....

Got these 2 back from Victorinox yesterday, good as new.

Outdoorsman 'Original'… had serrated blade, saw, file, and pruning blade replaced and new scales.

Scientist… new blade & plus scales.

Love that Scientist! Great compact EDC SAK if you don't need Scissors.

How much did it cost to have these serviced? Where you able to specify exactly what work you wanted done on these (and what *not* to replace e.g. the old style mag glass and Phillips on the Scientist)? Do they also give them a clean-up and lubrication at the same time? I have a few older SAKs that could do with a bit of TLC (not just new scales)...

Yes, you tell them exactly what you want done and they send you a quote. Once you pay they start working on it. Total turn around from my door and back was 4 weeks.

The Scientist needed a new blade and scales. Cost was like $5… and they upgraded to plus scales.

The Outdoorsman needed new saw, serrated blade, pruning blade, file, and scales - cost was like $12.

I'm not sure if they cleaned them, they were clean when I sent them in, but they are lubricated.

That's pretty reasonable! Did you send them by post or drop them off at one of their service agents? I think there's an outdoor equipment shop near where I live that acts as a service agent for Victorinox (I presume they then send them on to Victorinox)

I mailed'em direct to the service center.

An old Wenger Mountain (#1.13.23), a rather rare variant of the Backpacker, with a flat phillips in place of the nail file.

Nice find.
Model 1.13.23 has corkscrew also, instead of phillips.
"Montagne" (Mountain) was the name of the series, including the skier models.
How is going your Wenger collection Karl?

Hi Carlo,

Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope all's well.

Don't have any other name for it, so will go with Mountain rather than Backpacker variant.

The Wenger side of the collection is growing slowly, but I manage to pick up something occasionally.
