Well, I decided that $90 was a pretty good price for an XLT, besides, I really, really, really "needed" it so I pulled the trigger.  This thing is a bit dangerous when all opened up for cleaning, kind of like handling an angry porcupine with bare hands.  Already nicked my finger on the pruning blade. 😛  Pocket carry isn't too bad although I do lean a bit to that side now.        Probably won't fit the minimalist challenge though.

Here's my Safari Hunter (my first 108mm! How exciting!)

Since my fingernails are short it is almost impossible to open the main blade. Not the greatest design...
But once it's open it's a lovely blade. Pity the saw is so flippin' ugly - and useless, by all accounts. I might have to remove it and turn this into a two blade special.

The "v3" glass pops out of the frame. Which is handy if you have to magnifya something while using scissors on it, for example. But i don't think it's meant to be popped in and out repeatedly.

If you remove the woodsaw you basically have a shark:

Which is a great knife! Serrated gutting blade is ideal for cutting my apples :D

Neck lanyard is the only way to go with that one...fully opened.

Ya'know, this has probably already been said, I may have been the one who said it...but I'd like to see some kind of a maximalist challenge...SwissChamp and up, have to use EVERY tool every day for 30 days. That includes wire stripper notch, every driver bit, both sides of metal file, etc.

Yeah, that's the other silly thing on the Safari Hunter... the gutting blade really is a gutting blade and not a belt cutter / serrated. Since I am more likely to walk on the moon than gut anything, it will have a boring, bloodless existence occasionally carving twigs into toothpicks, that sort of thing...

I like that Shark! Looks awesome and you've encouraged me to actually mod this Hunter instead of just grumbling about it.

It'll still be beautiful without the saw! And thinner! It'll be a... toothless Shark! How cool would that be?!

I've always wanted a Swisschamp and I finally found one on eBay that I was willing to pick up.  Had to introduce him to the family when he arrived

Thanks.  I've had the Camper forever, and the Classics too.  I got the Minichamp shortly after they were introduced.  The Alox was gotten for me by my sister when she traveled Europe in the late 90s.  I just recently picked up the 111mm for next month's challenge.

I would sooner add a saw than remove one. Still, that shark is gorgeous, like a small version of my Fireman. I'm using the serrated blade for French bread, the plain blade will handle any apple.
