Been on a bit of a shopping spree today...

(Image removed from quote.)

We bough a car about two weeks ago. So there were a couple of reasons to get a Rescue Tool:
- Get ourselves out of the car.
- Cut someone else out of a car
- An excuse to get a Rescue Tool
- Heck, just a reason to get a Rescue Tool!

(Image removed from quote.)

Also I was in the market for a Climber with a file on the Multipurpose Hook as a present for my girlfriend.
But I think I got my facts wrong as the seller didn't think it existed. But he was helpful and suggested the Compact.
And in fact, it's such a nice knife I want to keep it for myself! That's a lot of functionality in a small package!
I bought a NIB second hand. Looks terrific.

(Image removed from quote.)

And as the rule goes, if you buy someone a present you should also get yourself one. Or isn't that a rule? I dunno, today it was.
The Huntsman caught my eye and I decided it had to come home.

(Image removed from quote.)

The Rescue Tool and the Huntsman are both second hand and in good condition. Though a bit rough to open and close. The Rescue Tool smelled heavily of WD40 and had a lot of fine sand in it. I ran a sink of warm water and dish soap and got rid of most of the dirt. A stiff brush got rid of the rest.

Then I put the knives in a Bacta Tank...

(Image removed from quote.)

Well, not really. It's just an ultrasonic cleaner. Though the blue LED lights up the StayGlo scales on the Rescue Tool nicely!
I also gave the bright red and yellow case a scrub. Everything is drying on the radiator now.
Tomorrow I'll check id they are dry and apply a little bit of Victorinox oil or Ballistol.

I find the Rescue Tool very impressive. As all 111mm it feels great in the hand. The large StayGlo scales are very nice and glow strongly. The print on the scales are in very good condition. I removed the Glass-Breaker and Disk-Saw to give it a good clean and noticed that relieves the tension of the back layer tools. Great for easy cleaning!

This video demonstrates the SAK nicely. I'd love to cut out a window!

The Huntsman is a very nice compact knife, ideal for a picnic or a day in the woods. I really like it. According to Victorinox.com it does not come with a  Mini Screwdriver and Pin. I'll add them later. I might change the scales to camo. But then again, if I can get my hands on StayGlo or Yellow scales that might also be an option.
The rescue tool is the one knife I never want to use, nice just to fondle though

Here's a new-to-me mod that I had some say in the way it was built.
I call it my Master Carpenter.
What is suspiciously missing is the opener layer, I didn't want it.  I wanted a working tool that houses my most used tools on any given day (except the wood saw which I love and never use).
This has:
Phillips on the back layer.
Chisel on the back layer.
Scissors
Pliers
Wood saw
Main blade
And....a technician screwdriver.
All this and plus scales (I haven't even put my items in the scales yet).

It's only 4 layers thick.
I'm going to put this into the rotation and see if it's everything I hope it is.

Very nice

And according to the tracking info the package with 17 SAKs is also delivered. Speedy delivery from US to Netherlands in two days, although I was supposed to sign for this one in person and there is no one home at the moment. When I click to see the delivery confirmation there is no name and no signature there. So I guess the delivery guy/gal just dropped it in the mailbox without anyone signing for it, a bit sloppy in my opinion

Well, when I get home I guess the mailbox is stuffed with SAKs  :D

I concur. To be honest I questioned the usefulness of the Rescue Tool as there are more complex rescue tools available with automated window breakers.
After seeing the Victorinox video however it became clear to me that the Rescue Tool is a no fuss tool. Just smash the window.
I recon that it's hard to use this type of windowbreaker underwater (similar to life hammer). In case of an underwater/flooded car accident I have two ResQme tools fixed in the car.

And I really hope I will never have to use it to get out of a car myself. If I have to use it I much rather be on the other side of the car, getting people out.
Most of the knife is designed for that purpose anyway.

Hi guys, just wanted to share what I've scored today used for 20€, a current line huntsman, and a transition blade stamp Spartan with no keyring, ruby red scales, and a logo "winterhur" on the main blade. Is has the crossbow but thinner tang.
The tools have little to no use, great snap, factory edge on all blades, and regular use scratches on the scales.
The Huntsman has the front scale a bit loose, so I'm replacing those for new ones. The Spartan has sone scratches but still looks great, and even tho I'm a die hard classic red scales guy, ill probably leave the ruby ones on for a while  :D

BTW: The black spots you see in the blade are just refection's from the ceiling here

Here are the pics:

A Huntsman came my way this week as well!  Scales are a little rough but the tools are looking relatively unused.  :tu:

Great score  :like:

The tools on mine are also pretty new, with great snap. It's going to get a nice soapy bath and scrub, clean and polish, and some new scales  :D

As for the Spartan I still haven't decided yet if ill change the scales to classic reds or not

So I was going to buy a SAK today, but there was a hiccup.

I went to Mall of America with a buddy today, since the Minnesota Victorinox Flagship store is there, or rather it was, it was closed and is not coming back to Minnesota.

An early 80s Bantam, bought today on a flea market.
It was the only SAK there...
Just €2 and at that price, I'll buy any SAK in decent condition.

It's cleaned and oiled now, will polish the scales and blade tomorrow, and give it an edge too.
