The old SAKs such as the 84mm is so much stouter than the current SAKs. The blade is thicker, the scissors is stronger but the modern SAKs are more refine. An interesting evolution.

1 qns, the Golfer scale are the solid whole piece type so does it accept the newer 84mm scale? There is nothing wrong with the scale on mine just a curious qns. I also realise my scissors spring is black. It doesn't look rust but kind of patina, I give it a light layer of oil just in case. The spring works fine and still springy.

By the way, is there ways to tell how old is my Golfer? I assume they were made in the 80's?

The 84mm Victorinox knives are still being made if you want some more.
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+84mm

One way to check for the age in Victorinox knives is to see if e.g. there are grooves in the corkscrew and some other indications like shape, thickness etc. of various tools (an expert should be here soon to help you  :D), though all golfers are reasonably old:

The black spring is not rusty; it is like that. Some knives came with that or were fitted with them afterwards when their springs broke. (you can buy them online sometimes)

Yeah it is. My local Dick's is trying to get $50+ for that knife.

There came a point for me when I decided I had to stop buying knives because I thought "they were good deals" and instead focuse on what I "need."  There is a subtle difference sometimes.

A used CT41 for $51. I just sold a used CT41 Ruby for $65 and it had the old style file and was in worse shape. Both were still 9.5 out 10.

I've got a Wenger EvoWood 11 waiting for me at work. (I stayed home sick today and yesterday) so it'll probably sit there waiting for me until Monday. :(

That's even worse than waiting for Brown Santa: knowing it is just sitting somewhere waiting for you. Someone could just walk by and pick it up.

jerseydevil: that is one of the most underrated SAKs of all time.

Guys go ga-ga over 1-4 bladed traditional American slipjoints all the time, but never give a thought to the Pocket Pal. It is like the Toyota Corolla of two-bladed slipjoints.

If you ground that small blade into something like a Wharnecliffe, it'd probably be the perfect whittler.  :2tu:

That's exactly what I was thinking when I got it.  I like traditional slippies, and the Pocket Pal is a perfect fit with them.  It's probably going to get the wharnie treatment at some point, I keep telling myself that I should give whittling a try and never start.

Well, here's what you do, JD: go buy another one for $10, so you know you've got a spare. Then, you'll be OK with taking the Dremel to the other one.
