I will have a couple of climbers showing up in the not so distance future but kinda wish they were the super tinkers!

I too recently received a Spirit X from Amazon and was lucky enough to get it when it was $10 off so I snatched it for only $43.50 :)

I received today a couple of Champion Plus's cause I never had one so wanted to play with one...it is kinda big so not sure if I will carry it!  Still a nice one just to play with!

Got a nice drop off from the mailman today. I recently sold a few knives from my colelction that never get used as they are just too big and unweildy. I already had a few older SAK models and just like how easy they carry and are plenty big for my EDC tasks,

So, with the proceeds from my recent ebay sales I picked up a nice used Climber w/black scales, a new One Handed Sentinel (non-serrated) and from Amazon a new SwissTool Spirit X with the leather case for $53 and free shipping. All great looking tools with a finish and attention to detail that is nicer than my old Spydercos, Gerbers and Sogs that I just sold.

The SwissTool Spirit is like the BMW of multi-tools. My Leathermans are all very industrial looking but the Spirit is just plain elegant and I really like that the tools are all outside accessable.

Still want a Vic Compact and I have a used Hiker on the way (wanted the saw). The One Handed Sentinel is nice and I kind of wanted a Trekker too but I need to live the the Sentinel a while to see if the size is an issue for pocket carry. While the Sentinel has a pocket clip model it seems the Trekker does not.

Anyway, thrilled with the new Vics!

Tony

I got what I believe is my first collector.  I have always used every tool or knife I get, but this one is going to stay in the box for good.

It's a NIB Wenger SI, a gift from my good friend Steve(Sawman) via Felinevet.  Never had one with a bail on it, and it's a beauty.

Thanks Tom!!

I think it's a sweet knife.

Steve has gifted me quite a few things, and I always put them right to use but I can't seem to put this one in my pocket.  Maybe it's because it's retired.  I just want to collect SAKs and I have to start with one some time.

Be careful with the bail, it can swing around and when you close the blade it snaps shut (strong springs), hits the bail and puts a dent in the blade edge.

If you wanted to keep it pristine as a "collector" and were having a quick fondle it will turn into a "user" instantly and ruin your day. (ask me how I know)

edit  But it didn't stop me buying another one (97 tang stamp)...

Yes a mod/repair. The old style awl came from a 4 layer knife with a bail and no exposed rivets. When I took it apart, it was factory made. I didn't think the old style awl came with out the exposed rivets though.

LNF Champion.
(Image removed from quote.)
My $0.02 - If you don't already, I urge you to mark these mods you make so that collectors can tell them from originals. These late 1950s Champions can go for a lot of money these days, and I'd hate to see someone pay good money for what they think is an original knife and it ends up being a mod. Not that I think you personally would do that, mind you - what happens is knives like this gets traded and traded again, somehow their pedigree gets lost and they end up on eBay as originals. I can tell by looking at this that it's not original, but most collectors aren't gigantic SAK dorks like me that have memorized the minutia of tool changes, etc. On all my mods I make I stamp a serial number under the corkscrew so it's so you can tell it from an original.

+1 :salute:

Yea I am never selling these mods. Too many man hours and mod fodder SAKS involved. They are all marked and a spreadsheets are kept of my mods. This last one involved 5 SAKs. The original scales were toast. I had to create the old style opening from an old full scale. No hollow SAKs could of been used. She stunk like poo when when cutting the notch out for old style awl. My dremel was working her nuts off. If these mods ever make it to ebay, it will be over my dead body. I just enjoy playing with old style ones that I can't afford.

I got them out of a box that was being passed around last year, I believe Ashley started it.  They look like nose pieces from an eyeglasses or sunglasses display.  I have a black one and the clear one pictured, and they work really well.

Tony

I know what you mean about the Spirit.  I have the regular version (butterblade) and I love the fit and finish.  It really is considerably better than my Leathermans, but I still love the "industrial" finish they sport.  It makes them seem more "tool-like" and the Spirit is more of a gentleman's tool.

I also have a Vic Compact and it is great.  Very useful and high versatility in a two layer SAK.

I've got an Executive and a Mini Champ coming from FelineVet; my most recent acquisitions are a Tourist, couple of Classics and a Wenger Highlander (small box lot at a flea market for $10).

I've got my eye on a Wenger SI and a Compact next; I had a SI and gave it away for Christmas, I've missed it ever since. I may also pick up a Bantam or a Waiter to flesh out my 84mm collection.

The Executive was my first SAK, and I really enjoyed it.  I have it to thank for sparking my interest in SAKs and infecting me with the addiction bug :)  The Compact is great as well and it is an excellent companion to a multitool.

My $10 3x Elinox bargain arrived  :mail:

The Alox SAK is certainly never going to win any concours d'elegance. Tip of main blade missing and re-profiled, R.B. hand engraved on the blade and on the Cross on the front scale. (and a shaky hand it was too) and some quite heavy discolouration on the awl.

The two Spartans are in much better shape but both are heavily gummed up. So "Clothes" off ladies and into the WD40 bath with the two of you.

Not "Death Row" for these ones Terry, the Alox will drop into my ever growing EDC rotation and the two Spartans look like they will clean up very nicely, the tools on both are like new. Obviously both "Carried a lot and Used a little".

Once they have been de-gummed I will pop their old scales back on and they will go in the "Sell to finance more toys" box, eventually to make their way back onto eBay.
I should be able to get enough from them that the Alox one is essentially free.

Nothing like running a self-funding hobby.  :)

I always look at the postage and factor it in to the price. I've passed up some really nice gear at cheap prices because the seller wanted to butt-rape me on postage.

Some sellers are better than others with postage. Also some countries are cheaper postage than others.

I paid $10 for these three knives and the postage was $13 from Canada. But I bought 3 knives from a seller in Germany and the postage was only $7.50.
And then you see sellers who really don't want to post internationally and want $39 for postage on a Cadet from USA to Aus.
