My $10 3x Elinox bargain arrived  :mail:

The Alox SAK is certainly never going to win any concours d'elegance. Tip of main blade missing and re-profiled, R.B. hand engraved on the blade and on the Cross on the front scale. (and a shaky hand it was too) and some quite heavy discolouration on the awl.

The two Spartans are in much better shape but both are heavily gummed up. So "Clothes" off ladies and into the WD40 bath with the two of you.

Your efforts have compelled me to save a few white cross red wannabe soldiers from the scrap heap.  Hopefully they can all be saved with a little bit of TLC.

I think that is enough red soldiers/pioneers for me...

I don't see anything wrong with them a little tlc wouldn't cure! My thing is, you don't want to use them when there brand new, but once they get that first scratch, there's nothing it can't do! JR

Was browsing around in the Berkeley REI today after getting my new glasses at the Cal Ophthalmology dept.    Almost broke down and bought a Mini Champ when I realized how my fingers are too big for those little 58 mm tools...  Then I almost bought a sapphire Huntsman, when reason overcame me and I realized I don't *need* any more SAK's...

Hey I'm in the same boat.  I don't "need" any more SAKs, but I want more ;)  I'll get one and then say I don't need any more and that I'm done.  Then a couple weeks later I'm eyeing another one that I like the looks of and then I'm saying "just this one more and then that's it".  Then rinse and repeat :P :D

Yeah, I know that routine...     I've been pretty good though, despite the fact there's at least half a dozen SAKs I want *right now*!  Since I learned to mod though, I'm holding out...  I made a Yeoman out of a Compact and an old Explorer, but I need to re-do it as I mis-matched the blade and outside liner.  My next project, and the SAK I *really* want most, is going to be an Explorer with a saw.  Gonna buy a Swiss Champ to use for that project, though I'm on a tight leash monetarily now, so I have to save my pennies for that.

Yeah exactly, it doesn't seem to end :ahhh  I wish I had the equipment and the know-how to mod myself.  I think I would enjoy that quite a bit.  And I would probably save some money as I could buy a couple or more SAKs to use for parts and make a couple of my ideal SAKs.  But who knows, I would probably still end up buying more anyway ::)

Yay, my black Explorer has arrived :mail:

I must say that I like the black scales better than the red.  I wanted the Plus version, but that was only available in the red scales.  I can always at least get the mini screwdriver and pin to add to it, I just can't have the pen.  I like the magnifier :)  Wish I could post pics.  Someday I will have myself a smartphone, but that will be a few months at least.

So I went ahead and stole the mini screwdriver and pin from my Compact and put them in my Explorer.  I figured until I can get another pin and screwdriver, I may as well just swap them between my Compact and Explorer as needed.  I wish I could put the pen in the Explorer as well, but I don't "need" it as I usually carry a tac-pen as part of my EDC set.

Scale swaps are the easiest "mod" to do... You can easily replace the regular cellidor scales with plus scales from another tool.

I understand that Syph007 has a few sets of complete plus scales, so you should PM him to see if he has any left.

My two latest arrived the other day.  First is a Camper with black scales and older-style blade markings....

And the other is a Hercules!

Ye Gods, this thing is a monster!  :ahhh  It feels great in the hand though, and certainly has a useful tool set.  This one came with a Nite Ize clip attached to it, sure helps with carrying it.  :tu:

just keep watching ebay...this was the first 72 I've seen in seven years of looking...you might try felinevet, he seems to always be able to come through...price wise, I figure around $40-$50 I got a 1980 (wifes birth year) for around forty.

Unfortunately I have no modding experience, although it is a hobby I would love to pick up someday.  Thanks for the info though :salute:  I will definitely keep that in mind for the future.

Although it's a present for my girlfriend, I just had to unpack it and touch the scales! It feels indestructible! I'll get one for myself as soon as I get a chance...

Two fresh from Italy - Beli & Nut Noce. Both Huntsman models.

I got my Beli today, and I just went back and check your image.  It appears, like mine, that your copies came with the 58mm Toothpick and Tweezers, rather than the correct ones for 91mm knives.

I fixed mine and slightly repaired one slot... much better now.

I wonder if someone over there is sleeping and all of these are going out with the wrong T&T.

Yup, 3 of 4 T&T on my two ones were the wrong ones. If only this was the only problem I would have kept them. As of now I returned them and waiting for a refund. I kind of suspect these weren't finally assembled with scales and T&T in Vic's Ibach factory but rather that it is a local store/distrib. job.

My latest acquisitions: a Tinker small and a Sportsman, birthday presents :D. Still awaiting the Executive and Mini Champ (should be any day now), found a pretty good deal on a Waiter that I should be getting Monday along with a late birthday present (wife won't tell me what it is yet).

Well, my Executive, Mini Champ, Waiter and my mystery present showed up yesterday at the post office. The first two (from Felinevet) were very nice knives; I'm quite well liking them. The Waiter has a nice simplistic thing about it. But what got me was the 'mystery present' from the wife: a Special Mechanic (Techline). That just about blew it out of the water for me; she knew that I used to EDC a Mechanic and thought I might like to have another for my collection. So she searched and found that one online...I was stunned. I thought those were rarer than hen's teeth and yet she finds one for a pretty good price.

Outriders are awesome SAKs...   :tu:   My very first 111 was an Outrider, and I still have it, though it's been modded.  My current favorite outdoors SAK is a Hunter that's had the scissors phillips layer added to it; imagine an Outrider with a combo tool and the short curved serrated blade in the openers layer, and that's my Hunter.
