Electrician Plus and another old Midshipman with brass liners, thick and unpolished tools and factory sharpened marlinspike (interestingly also boxed in a lovely little red box with the original paper inside):

lucky man!  i'd sure like either one of those. :gimme: :gimme:

did they have any more in stock

Paid a visit to the place where they sell the TSA-confiscated stuff near where I live the other day. Spent about 40 minuted digging to the bottom of two fair sized bins, and sorting through them for the models I prefer. Currently I am fascinated by the 58mm "complex" models.
Struck out with 4 minichamps, 1 mate, 6 ramblers, 3 74mm executives. Buffing and cleaning presently. Most will become gifts or part of my minichamp collection.

Now I want to see. If Francis is excited about a SAK, I want to know more. :D can't wait for the pics. :salute:

Ditto that! Don't know when I've seen him so excited.  :ahhh
Oh you guys are too funny .  Most people would tell me I'm too excited about any SAK I get the  ::) look all the time.

On a SAK crazy level maybe I didn't express my recent excitement for the Horn Handled Cheeze knife enough... I'm still pretty excited about that one.  A great idea that was more along the lines they would do in the past.

Sorry no artificial light setup right now, I was depending on 90% daylight for the last 8 months and now I'm affraid daylight is ending at 4pm now, and most of the time the daylight is no good photographic light.  I'll work something out ASAP, it should happen on the weekend if not before.

Finally I have some images of this beauty.

WOW, I actually went :o when I saw the pic, even more so after the Wenger love thread.

I never saw this one before, what's the history on it? I know of the pocketgrip porsche design but this one's new to me. Very cool indeed. :tu:

Very definitely worth getting excited about. Beautiful! :tu:

It was also sold as the 'Cayman S', the name of a Porsche car model. That may be a European name.

Here's an earlier thread about the Porsche models. There's also a cigar-cutter version which isn't shown.

Reading through that, I didn't realize the 'ruthenium' handles were actually zinc. Another cherished dream destroyed!

.....
I never saw this one before, what's the history on it? ....

Well back in 2010 when I was still learning about SAKs (... man I'm still learning)... I thought this knife was introduced in 2010...  However... no one corrected me... but I have since found out that it was essentially launched in [Error: January 2008] [Correction: 2007] when Porsche Design and Porsche introduced the Edition-1 Series which celebrated the 35 Year anniversary of Porsche Design, and and maybe was just a cool project.  The center piece of course was the Porsche Edition-1 sportscar, the Cayman S.  Each of these was sold with an Porsche Design Edition-1 accessory kit that included all the item in the Edition-1 Series (watch, glasses, knife, writing instruments, etc).  Black was a theme for the Edition-1 Series.  Anyway... apparantly limited to 1000 knives (777 of which were sold with the car). Wenger may have taken awhile before they listed the remaining ones for sale.  I think for the most part they were not sold through traditional SAK dealers.  I don't really know since I was just getting started in 2008 and no one was talking about them at that time.

Anyway... since I came across them in 2010 I had been  and this year I guess the SAK gods provided me with a perfect present for the holidays.

That's my summary of the history as I know it today.

Glad you like it... It exceeded my expectations because of the limited pictures I had seen if it.

Update: The official date for the Edition-1 Series is 2007 (not 2008), but it looks like things didn't get really rolling until 2008.

Thanks for the information. Again, a beautiful knife.

Most of my limited info comes from a Swiss-Knife (Heidi Shop) listing, so apparently at least some dealers carried it. Doesn't have a date with it, but the price is (rounded): 245 euros, $363, 399 CHF. Number given is 1.535.00.02.

Believe the Wenger store down on the Boulder Mall had one also.

Victorinox Farmer - the first Vic alox I got my hands on, MAN was I thrilled when it arrived!  :mail:
Although it's a present for my girlfriend, I just had to unpack it and touch the scales! It feels indestructible! I'll get one for myself as soon as I get a chance...

They are very lovely, and addictive ;)

This is true.  They really feel like a SAK that will last a lifetime, if not longer.  My only gripe with the Alox SAKs is the lack of scissors, toothpick and tweezers.  Mainly the scissors though as those are very useful IMO.  I do like the extra thickness of the tools though, and the overall thin profile which makes them very convenient for carry.

Monrogue, there two cures for alox, scissors and TNT.
1. Expensive and unique: A mod (like Syph007) makes you an Alox Pioneer, Farmer, Harvester, Cadet or whatever and add scissors and (this is my original idea perhaps) a box like the one on Wenger Mirathor, containing toothpick, tweezers, pin and maybe a pen)
2. Cheap and Sensible: Buy a companion 58mm, from Classic to Minichamp, or a 74mm Executive, in order to add scissors sized according to taste, as well as TNT.

That's a beautiful SAK ICanFixThat

My only problem with it is that any time you put the Porsche name on anything you double the value of the item. Is it a quality product? Probably, because it's made by Wenger. I just don't think the value of $475 as per their site is worth it to me. If I were a collector, maybe.

Yeah, #1 is something I would like to do someday.  I don't know how much a quality mod job costs though.  I have the Alox Pioneer Rancher, which has the pruner blade (which is awesome) instead of the can opener.  If it had a pair of scissors, it would be even better.  I could live without the TNT in it if I had to, especially if it adds considerably to the cost.

Also, your #2 suggestion is something I also do.  I have an Executive (my first SAK) and it's great for covering the scissors and TNT.  I also have the Compact and Explorer and carry one of them along with my Alox SAK, so technically I don't "need" the scissor and TNT put into my Alox SAK.  I would like it though, just to make it a more complete SAK for my liking :tu:

Silver alox Ambassador/Windsor/Lady Victoria with Spanish flag, to go with my Spanish Sportsman and a couple of Spanish Classics.

Don't see many of this model, and the first I've seen with a flag. Been calling them Windsors, to go with the stainless versions, and using Ambassador for the plastic-handled versions. An old (Canadian?) download lists the red alox version as Ambassador 2.

Wenger Ranger 51.  Please forgive the awful photos.  Just wanted a simple folder mainly for kitchen duty and liked the looks of the OH Rangers.  I've read that people think the scales are thick for the Ranger series, but I think I'll get another Ranger with more tools/blades to thicken it up even more (I've got big hands).

Thank you.  It's got a liner lock that releases when you press the red Wenger button on the side.  Very good for right-handers.

I have a Ranger 51 myself and I like it, but lately I prefer the Vic's Sentinel OH non serrated to it (same function, single blade, locking and one hand opening). The Ranger is very nice but personally I'd like the handles to not feel (and be) that hollow. The Sentinel feels slightly better to me personally, more compact and less hollow feeling (although its nylon scales are also part hollow). It also has T&T.

An older pic I had of them both:
