Got a light?
on: October 22, 2010, 02:46:35 PM
Not wishing to hijack the smokers thread, I thought I'd put my lighters over here on their own :)

Sorry about the rubbish pics - light isn't very good right now and the flash kinda washes things out.

Here's all of the ones I am currently hoarding

Mostly obvious I think.... Zippo, IMCO, Ronson, Thorens, Colibri, Orlik etc... a few novelty ones too.
I bought a lot of them especially the vintage automatic petrol ones, but there are several that have stories attached too. My favourite is the old slimline Ronson in the middle of the pic which you can just about see has J.H. engraved on it. This belonged to an old actor friend of my dad's called Johnny Heyward who worked with him in Oliver in the 60's. Johnny went a bit bonkers with age and tried to burn down the house he was in at the time - maybe that's when they took his lighters away?! Anyway, he passed away quite a few years ago now this ended up in my possession. I remember the crazy old man fondly.

Here's a better shot of the ones I actually use to most

Zippo Texas Twister with a fierce Z-plus insert (paracord duties)
IMCO Junior 6600 for great EDC, been carrying it on and off for 20+ years
The tiny little Colibri which was part of a keychain (now removed) lives in my Bill's Urban Wallet
Orlik Tank, which holds loads of fuel and is really solid and dependable

I think that's it for now.... I sold off most of the cheaper novelty types at a table top sale a while back so mostly left with ones I like. I am considering selling some though as they don't get out enough :)

I'm sure you were thinking about much harsher words than that!  :D

You've got quite the impressive collection going though- looks like some lovely antiques in there!

Oooo is that one of those auto Thorens lighters?  Are they any good?  They have been on the "list" for years.

Yeah, 2nd row last three but one.... baby Thorens, prototype c1910 auto, full size Thorens.

They are good but they spring open like a beast  :o Literally hard enough to jump out of your hand if you didn't have hold it tight enough! The button lock is very important because of this... pockets on fire not so funny :D
They are fairly easy to service but my baby one has got a faulty spring and needs some kind of mini-welding job to get it going again :(

Grant, I'm glad you posted it dude, very cool  :tu:

How about everyone else shows us what lights their fires too? :)

Nice collection!  I love my IMCOs.  I have a 1925-26 Neverfail trench lighter that actually sees some pocket time, but I carry a Triplex nearly every day.  I'll try to get some pics...

Maybe  :-[  :D

Car boots have been a bit crap for them this year anyway.  In fact the car boots have been a bit crap in general :(  If only I wanted to collect old video recorders and macdonald's happy meal toys I'd have been sorted ::)

Less bargains available with more info online I reckon - people know what they've got so don't sell it too cheap.

I did get the early auto prototype one for £2 however in a junk shop. They go on ebay for around £30-40 ;)

DX have listed what looks like genuine IMCO lighters - haven't ordered one myself yet but the price is excellent.

There's a review about the "precious" which is well worth reading too!

Pretty cool stuff, I was thinking I'd find electric lights.  I have a few fuel based lights, but not a collection or anything.  Just a couple I've picked up from time to time.  Recently got a batch of the different LasVegas Poker-Chip lighters, but they are intended to be delivered to some one else.

This little one hides in my kitchen sitting on the microwave exaust fan.  A little piece of hidden artwork that is mostly not noticed for quite some time.

I don't smoke, but I got this little lighter a few years back. The guts were junk, so I replaced them with the innards to a small Zippo (which just *barely* fit).
