I received the new OPINEL no. 9 CIME knife for Christmas. This is my first no. 9. The ash, black walnut, and maple look beautiful together. The no. 9 handle is so comfortable.

That's a beautiful knife!

I looked back over the last couple of pages that I missed.  I see the pretty multi-color Opi belongs to friend Jones E.  I guess the "Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed" didn't apply to cute Opinels.  Had me confused.  Best wishes. G

Beautiful Olive Wood #10 Barry. I didn’t know OPINEL did the #10 Effile in wood other than beech. I will need to go check that out.

Great looking no 8s in Walnut and beech. I like the patina you got going on beech.

Sadly, no. Even though I'm trying not to acquire much more new stuff (the No Lifers will be privy as to why), I think I should set aside a little money just in case more limited Opinels are released.

They can be tough buddy.  I know if they get enough demand they'll reintroduce some of the limited stuff, but I don't think this one.

Yeah, there all gone here in France, and go for crazy prices on eBay, like 300 euros, so almost 10 times the original price.
remember guys, when you see a special edition you would like, I may be able to buy you models difficult to get in the US. You just have to tell me fast, as they disappear pretty fast, even on this side of the ocean.

This one actually got by me.  My wife told me about it, and said they were gone too fast for her to even order one for me.  I'm not surprised they're gone in France, too.   They're beautiful.

Now Opinel has trotted out a No. 8 Colorama set. I'm tempted...

I understand the colorama series have hornbeam handles.  Anybody have any experience with those things?  Best wishes.  G

Hornbeam, as I understand it, is a variety of wood. Those I have are just as good as any of my other Opinels.

The trees grow around here.  Locals call it ironwood.  Looks a little like a birch.  It seemed a little strange that the Opinel people used a different wood for the painted handles.  I have never actually seen one of the painted Opi models before, but the photos look attractive.  Best wishes.  G

It is my impression that Opinel is aware of wood’s natural beauty via the wood grain of varieties they utilize.

Ironwood or Hornbeam as they call it is a tight grained wood. The wood.grain of this tree is not a distinct feature. It is normal to paint this wood as it does not absorb the finish applied, so the handle does not increase in weight, an advantage to the Opinel brand.

I have a few Colorama  sizes, they feel good in the hand, and are very stunning when just lying on the table or workbench.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

HF's Opinel Retrofit Clip 270125
Am trying out a No 8 with retrofit clip. If it works OK will probably put a retro thumb stud on it and try them together.

Sounds like a good solution.  Tight grain, so it is hard to stain.  I have had experience with trying to stain wood that won't absorb it.  Hornbeam is white when you cut it so it wouldn't look too pretty anyway.
Good to see someone having fun doing mods on an Opi.  Looks like a good clip mod, for those who like those sorts of things.  Best wishes.  G

Well thanks to Al (50ft-trad) and GojKan i now have a big opinel addiction, started with the #8 from Al via GojKan from serbia  :tu: and has just gone from one opinel to now 7  :o these have to be one of the best bang for the buck knives out there, untill i got one i wasnt sure but now im addicted, there great for doing small jobs in the kitchen and bigger jobs in the garden, great slicing knives due to there thin V grind blade, they are easy to sharpen , and bonus for me as not my best skill  :D and they hold a edge pretty well, what more can i say but thanks guys for the introduction to a great little frenchy  ;)

there handy in the kitchen lol

I have a few Opinels with carbon steel blades (not stainless steel).
I'll never figure out why they do that. No one else does, to my knowledge.
