Accept it will add a couples steps to the process and add cost to manufacture, which be added to the price. So a $20 knife is now  $25.

Same reason that the Neo6 is a touch more expensive than it should be!

@Barry, on your new No9, does the packaging, does it say printed in China or something similar?

On my last purchase, the Neo and Effile both indicated printed in France and very unique.   Just curious but not enough to order another knife.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Just to say, if you get one that says made in China, it's not an Opinel.  :D

Don't let anyone tell you that a No. 6 is too small for kitchen duty:

Some chickens were definitely harmed for this photo!

If I remember correctly, Pablo Picasso used  No.5 ( carbone) in some of his wood carving and art creations

My very first Opinels received had packaging labeled "Printed in China", most strange for country as proud as the FRENCH people???

I almost didn't go into Home Goods with my wife on Saturday. Good thing I did. 9.99 for a pack of Opinels

These are a gardening set and in stainless steel. The saw is super sharp.

Did you ask if they were planning on doing the same promotion on other models soon?

Pacu, I have the same gardening set, and I think I paid 69 or 79 dollars for it and considered that a bargain.  If they had more sets available at Home Goods, you ought to go back with all due haste, and buy them all. :pok:

The Home Goods clearance section here in this small town looks like someone chunked merchandise down the aisle with a show shovel. I did a deep search of the section and hit up TJ Maxx as they are related stores ( i think)

Back in the 2010ish years TJ Maxx would have Leatherman blister packs ( micras, psts, pulses,) for under 30 bucks. I may drop by tomorrow  (Home Goods) just to check up again for Opinels.

Just to chime in here.  In my market HOME GOODS never saw the set.  Was told Marshalls and Sierra are of the same group and those store are located near my home, with Marshalls like Home Goods. And Sierra is similar but more outdoor and sporting and camping.

Non had any item beyond gnomes and cast iron cookware.   Yeti cups and tumblers about 50% off retail. Discontinued items.

Last night I trotted out the No. 12 and gave its blade a fresh coating of oil. It's seen here with a 91mm SAK for scale. The handle alone is over six inches (15cm) long.

Indeed it is. The blade geometry also makes it a mighty fine kitchen knife.

With the No12, it should be good knife to carve the turkey on Thanksgiving!
Or a large ham on other holidays if you cook yourself one!

I have been to many a gathering and hosts’ do not have a respectfully sharp blade in the house.

Be a good reason to order a No12 :tu:  now thinking about it!   Maybe a few, then gift them to the host instead of the more expensive bottle of wine.

Did you say turkeys?  These wild turkeys were about 10 feet from my camera.  One not in the photo was peeking in the window of my mudroom.  The toms were all looking for a date.  Best wishes.  G

I abstain from turkey (due to the tryptophan), so Gary's wild turkeys are safe. Wild Turkey in a bottle labeled "101 proof" is a different story. :D However, I would unhesitatingly take the No. 12 to a ham. And gifting them at Thanksgiving is a fantastic idea! :tu:

My No. 12 has gotten quite a patina. :woohoo:

Do you want instant patina? Cut something that's slathered with hot sauce. :tu:

I received a email from OPINEL this morning, opening my eyes to the proper methods of preparing cheese to serve properly.

Included was this link. https://www.opinel-usa.com/blogs/news/how-to-cut-cheese-best-knives-and-peelers?utm_source=email&utm_medium=campaign-email&utm_campaign=Cheese%3A%20Team%20Peeling%20or%20Team%20Cutting%3F&_kx=HFKesQlyOE5XIwKOtpk0ccPecjwS6BTzdHDgRovpfm4.KnrmBM

That almost got me to grab my big chuck of CO-Jack and chunk away.

Interesting insight to use my peeler in a new manner than just peeling potatoes or clean carrots!

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

PS: I also have a couple No7 Colorama that will be prefect for cutting and spreading soft style cheese.

I also received that e-mail. For me, it depends on what I want to do with the cheese and if it's a hard or soft type. My No. 12 would be called up if I wanted to cut a brick of cheddar into cubes. But for thin slices or a hard cheese like parmesan, I'd use a peeler or the wide section of a grater.
