So I was in Home Depot today buying some paint and tile, and I went over to the MultiTool section and started poking around. Well, you know how HD is when they are not busy, you just have to start touching something, and 3 or 4 people start climbing over each others shoulders asking if you need help finding something.

I found out a few things:
  • Like Amazon, HD is not suppose to sell the Wingman until 10/15
  • Every HD is suppose to have at least one Kick in stock at all times
  • Most stock at least the Wave too, just because it is so popular
  • Because the Kick is retiring, the Wingman will take it's place as the "at least one" tool

Three things that I don't know:
  • Will the price always be $24.97, or is that just an introductory price?
  • Will the Kicks go on clearance on 10/15?
  • What's in the HD warehouses for a LM Christmas special?
As a HD employee. Allow me to tell you how things operate at a Home Dumphole:
-do something wrong, you might get in trouble
-do something right, you WILL get in trouble

More doing, more incompetence,,,,,

That's the power of the Home Depot!

The first member to swap out the saw in the Sidekick for the scissors from the Wingman is morally obligated to the rest of us here to provide pics of the step by step sequence and the final result of doing the mod...

This thread inspired me to see if I could order the Wingman online so it would be ready for pickup on the 15th.  I ordered 2 last night and I got the confirmation that they were ready to pickup this morning.  Since I needed to go to Sam's Club next door this morning I was excited.  I got there and they could not find the Wingmans but they offered me an upgraded tool that cost more...the KICK.  I politely told them that I appreciated their offer but the Kick did not have outside opening tools or scissors.  The kid working behind the counter said they tried to call me but could not reach me...interesting because I had 2 calls from a phone number that turned out to be the local Home Depot but they never left a message.  The kid said that was the way the store manager rolled....did not make much sense to him but.  So the store manager happened by and he said they tried to call me to let me know.....I told him that maybe he should have a little talk to his people about phone etiquette since there was no message and when I called the number back all I got was a message.   He offered to deliver the tools to my house as soon as they could find them.  He did not know how soon they could find them but they would send them out on a truck when they could find them.  He said they had the option of other tools in place of the Wingman  like the kick....I told him the tools were gifts that I wanted to get shipped and any other outside opening tool would be acceptable and appreciated.  Of course the only other tool with outside opening tools is the Wave.  He looked for the Wingmans for about 10 minutes more and decided to give me 2 Waves for the same price as the Wingman.

I just ordered 2 more from a different Home Depot....

I drive by 2 Home Depots on my way to work. I think I'll stop in to see if they have the Wingman in stock. On a side note I work for Academy Sports+Outdoors and when I went in on Tuesday I noticed the Kick had all of the sudden dropped in price. I asked the store director why the price drop and she told me the cooperate office wanted to clear them out but she was not told why exactly. I'm hoping it's to make room for the new LM tools.

I believe they are discontinuing the kick, Fuse, and Blast so might want to pick up a few Kicks if the price is right.

They dropped from $29.99 to $24.99. In about a week or two  the price will go even lower to around $15.99 so I'm going to hold out.

Mine has 21 Wingmen in stock, though they're stuck in receiving.  I say 21 because I have two reserved for me (which when they find, they're setting them aside and holding them for me to pick up). :D

I actually ended up with 2 Wingmen (or is it Wingmans?) today.  I talked to one of the store managers and he wanted to see the Wingman so he had somebody dig through the Black Friday in October shipment to find the Wingman.  According to what he can find out next week they are going to get ready for the promotion scheduled for Friday October 21st.  Each Home Depot received 24 Wingman and 12 Wave tools in the promotion.  So maybe the Wave will have a special price too....he wonders if the Wingman will be part of a bundle or something.

So we all need to watch the internet for the Home Depot ad so we can figure out what to buy!  Funny thing was at the first Home Depot they brought the promo stuff down and found the Waves but there were 4 boxes marked as Kicks....I really wonder if those 4 boxes really had the Wingman inside.   I might go back and check later tonight.  I was real surprised that there were 4 boxes of Kicks unopened and part of the same shipment.  Maybe they are going to run a special on Kicks too???

But I would advise anyone who wants a Wingman to order them online before you head to the store at least then you will have a confirmed order.

I noticed a pattern, almost every HD has 23 in stock, I tink that means that they aren't selling them yet. Thats because the numbers would probably fluctuate more if they were selling them.  Anyway, im still going to HD on saturday to see if i can nab one.

That's the way to do it.  I just got a call from one of the Home Depots in my area, I received a call from the same store earlier and the kid was flustered because they don't have the tool, it is not an active sku...etc.  A different guy called and said to ignore the prior call because the kid did not know to look in the promo stuff and he has 2 put aside at the customer service desk ready for pickup.

You have to ask for them to look by the SKU; odds are that they have them in receiving.

Well i went to Home Depot to buy a Wingman they were in stock but they could not find them. So then i got the bright idea i would order and pay for one online for in store pickup at another HD that might force them to find me one. That HD could not find them ether but i did end up with a 25.00 wave.

Yeah, same here.  Just back from HD - my order was ready for pickup, but when I got there they mistakenly pulled a Kick...  manager spend 30 minutes searching the warehouse for my Wingman but couldn't find it.  Oh well.

They are not listed at Homedepot.ca so I wonder if the Canadian stores are going to carry it?  There are no Leathermans listed there at all, vs the 8 listed on the US site.

Luckily though, they are both listed at MEC, although they are currently out of stock/unavailable.

Sorry about that!  I've mentioned them before, and there's one just a few blocks from me.  I figured the Canucks would know what it was, and since it's not in the US, I didn't think it mattered to you guys!  :D

No, probably the opposite to be honest!

MEC isn't known for being overly competitively priced.  It's nice to see the new tools are at MSRP though.  Even now older tools (and most products) are still priced at about 30-40% higher than US prices since our dollar was worth $.65-70US for years.  Now that we are at par (more or less) our prices still seem to be as high as they used to be, which is frustrating to say the least.

It was a pleasant surprise when I found the Wingman was priced at $28 while the Sidekick is listed at $37.  Maybe not as good as some online prices, but great for a big box or specialty shop, and there's no shipping charges.

Want to guess where my Wingman is going to come from?  :D

That seems really odd that business owners would try and take advantage of the stronger Canadian dollar  ;)

I think that this is one area where Walmart helps a society. They tend push the lower limits of prices based on world-wide value, which in turn forces competitors to drop their prices to true value amounts. Which is bad for some local value base markets, but overall a benefit to the consumer.

So if I order a Wingman online through HD, and I go in asking for it, and they don't have it, that I get a Wave instead for my $25?   :gimme:

At first she told me she could upgrade me to Kick. I told her i wanted a tool with outside opening blades. Then she upgraded me to a 69.87 Wave for 24.97.
