So I was in Home Depot today buying some paint and tile, and I went over to the MultiTool section and started poking around. Well, you know how HD is when they are not busy, you just have to start touching something, and 3 or 4 people start climbing over each others shoulders asking if you need help finding something.

I found out a few things:
  • Like Amazon, HD is not suppose to sell the Wingman until 10/15
  • Every HD is suppose to have at least one Kick in stock at all times
  • Most stock at least the Wave too, just because it is so popular
  • Because the Kick is retiring, the Wingman will take it's place as the "at least one" tool

Three things that I don't know:
  • Will the price always be $24.97, or is that just an introductory price?
  • Will the Kicks go on clearance on 10/15?
  • What's in the HD warehouses for a LM Christmas special?

As a HD employee. Allow me to tell you how things operate at a Home Dumphole:
-do something wrong, you might get in trouble
-do something right, you WILL get in trouble

More doing, more incompetence,,,,,

That's the power of the Home Depot!

As another HD employee, I have to agree with this. I didn't even know that we were getting the new tools. (probably because I don't actually shop for anything at the Home Despot)

In any case selling a wave for 25 bucks when the wingman cannot be found is company policy. I will try to remember to keep an eye out for any price drops on the kicks though...

To be honest I am not sure my store even has the wingman in yet, since I am the one who receives all of the freight and I haven't seen any Leatherman displays yet. I will try and get some info on the 11/3 event for ya'll.

And while they are there, ask for Bryan and get it autographed by a Multitool.org legend?  :D  :pok:

My local HD is showing 21 in stock.  Next time I'm out that way I'll be sure to check it out.

If I bought one from your store I would expect you to sign the box!  Otherwise, why would I have gone to your store in the first place?  :D

To those of you who have researched online as to whether or not the local Home Depot has the Wingman in stock, and they have said "yes", don't waste your time and go to try to buy one, I did yesterday.  All they had was the same old Kick and Surge.  Needless to say, I was PO'd.

Just picked up mine at HD 30 minutes ago.  Earlier in this thread I had the same complaint as you - showed online but not on the floor at the store and they had no idea where to look for them.

Here's the trick I used - I watched the in-stock count online.  As I eventually saw it decrease I figured they were ready for sale.  Placed my order for pickup and sure enough it was waiting when I got there.

Nice little tool, and a killer tool for $25.

They just set our display last night. The funny thing is that I know I was the one who unloaded and processed them into the store, I just didn't keep track of it or pay attention. I guess I get so much stuff coming in on any given night that unless there is a problem with something I just put it out of my mind right quick.

Yeah, I did that on Sunday, really ticked me off. I'll be in that direction tomorrow, might pop in and take a quick look again. I just checked online, and their stock is down a bit, so I might get lucky.

If in Canada check near the tool section,  they have a section within that one for gifts under  $30,20,15 etc.  That's where you'll find the leatherman wingman.

I stopped by my local HD again today and picked up another Wingman to put in my wife's van.  I've bought 3 from my local HD and there are only three empty spots on the display, so I'm the only one that has bought any.

They have a bunch of Christmas Specials at the front of the store.  Everything from drill bits, flashlights, screw driver sets, etc.  All inexpensive gifts to buy that special someone,  :D  They aren't hanging in the tool area where the Kick and Wave are located.  I would imagine if your local HD doesn't have that Christmas area setup, at the front of the store, yet then they are still in the back.

Well I called my local Home Depot and they said they had the Christmas display up.  :D I get there and indeed they did, but there were no Wingmans.  :( I decided I needed to go to Walmart and while in the area stopped by the HD there.

SUCCESS.........   :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I think I was the first person to buy one.

Got a call from HD at 08:00 this morning that they had found the Wingman from the back and it was waiting for me at the Hardware desk. Picked it up 30 minutes later. They still don't have them on display anywhere that I could see.

Thanks for all the replies to my post about making a needless trip to my local HD for a Wingman.  Maybe I'll stop again in the future when I am nearby, but I am not making a special trip.  But I am not hopeful, because in Maine where I live, when stores open here they leave something at the New Hampshire border.  Meaning they are not as good a store as they are in other states.  My two cents. :D

I think at $25 is will sell well for the holidays.  A Leatherman for $25 makes an affordable and desirable gift.

The display box that Cpt. Spaulding took a pic of is the same display they use up here in
Canada.  I think this will be the thing you want to be looking for at least in all the larger
dept. stores that have the room to find your Wingmans.

I think I need to go back and buy a few more.  :tu:

On a side note I was disappointed to hear they switched the serrations to the opposite side, but thankfully mine had them on the side I was hoping for.

I was at my local Depot today and they had a section blocked off. They were just starting to set up their Christmas display. Of course, what is one of the first displays they'd taken out of the box? I asked one of the guys doing setup to grab one for me. He looked at me like I was nuts for a sec, and then got me my Wingman! Going to play with it at work tomorrow, and if it holds up like my first impression says it will, I'm going to grab a bunch more of them for presents.

I was hoping they would become regular stock but when the man from HD called and said they had the displays set up he said this was a one time shipment. When there gone there gone.  I hope he was incorrect but I remember a combo with a core tool and leatherman knife and a bit kit a few years ago and it disappeared after the holidays.

Update:  Well, I did as someone suggested.  I went by the store yesterday and stopped.  I looked for the Christmas displays, which I found.  But I still could not fine the Wingman, until I asked.  Tucked way in the back amongst other similar looking displays was the Wingman display.  Twere it were a snake, I twould have been bit.  But I have one now.  And I like it.

The combo sets are always either a seasonal thing or a store exclusive; the Wingman is going to be a standard item. I expect that HD will carry it after the holidays because their supply of Kicks is going to dry up and they need a less expensive tool to replace it. Not everyone is going to pony up $70 for a Wave.
