I think it could be a little difficult to have the sakwiki updated daily with the availability of every single knife listed.

Number of SAKs is not that huge, it's not thousands or even hundreds of models, so I think sakwiki can be easily updated in time.

The SAKwiki currently has cca 640 pages, most of them have multiple SAK variations listed and that are only major changes with different model numbers. If we would be counting all the limited runs and different color variations too the number would be :ahhh There are still lots of models that were discussed here on the forum but still haven't been added to the wiki cause information are still being gathered about them. So yes, there are literally thousands of different SAK models and variations. And the site is maintained by members here, volunteers who do it for the love of the Swiss Army knife.

Most of the knives shown in the SAKwiki are from the 1960s or newer. There are a very large number of older models that may be shown in some of the older catalogs, but are otherwise unlisted.

Jazzbass is planning a book that may cover some of the info you're looking for.

What I'm talking about, guys, is that it's not such a problem to know what models are being produced at the moment. So even if to say that over 70 000 differen models has been produced since 1960's, the number of actual models is much much lower (let's say 300 for Victorinox, for example), so it's easy to realize that the rest 69700 are discontinued. Please don't start talking about different scales colors, bla-bla-bla, I mean just MODELS. Hope now it's clear. Even for "witty" cowboys from over the ocean.
P.S. Book is great idea.

Nice set!
Is there any date printed on the Ranger's box label?

Both of the SAC knives have what appears to be a date - 11 2012.

Thank you Karl.
Sorry I missed your answer

Nice collection Igor!
I updated yesterday the wiki with the Camo 07 and 08 (your fifth knife from the right on the bottom line)
They can be found (along with the Hardwoods 13 and 10) under the Commander and Backpacker sections.

Interesting Patroulle Des Glasier knife, never seen modern version before. Is it's blade etched as well? I have older one with red scales and brass plate, IMO older models look more neat. Nice collection anyways.

Oh thanks, but I just added few pictures and made small edits.
All the hard work had already been done (most by Francis).

It is listed in the current catalog

Ok, it's time to respond with something.
Wenger Bernina. It was a crazy quest to find it. Bought last one, luckily it sat forgotten behind show window in russian accesories store for over a year.

I was just looking at that model yesterday in an old thread. :D Very nice find. :tu:

Yeah, and it's also a great gift for a woman that likes to sew  ;) My second half was unbelievebly happy when I brought this baby to her. I was surprised myself by number of unique implements inside of it. Never thought it would be so hard to find it. They are discontinued long time ago, although sakwiki keeps silence about this.

But I have to ask. Why do you use other peoples pictures of SAKs? We'd appreciate it much more if you posted the ones you bought. It doesn't matter if they are shot with a cellphone or a high quality camera. :D Some people might get offended for using their pictures. ;)

LoL : ) Will you find anything more if I make a picture of the same knife? I just was too lazy to spend my time on taking new pics with good camera. If low quality pics of the same knife made by me with cell phone will make you happy, I'll do it, no problem  ;) By the way, author of that photo doesn't mind me to use it  :P

Condition means a lot in the SAK collecting community and that varies from SAK to SAK. So while Gim's Wenger Bernina is nice (and I see by his collection he still has it ;) ) pictures of your own SAK would be nicer. :D

Condition doesn't vary from SAK to SAK when both SAKs are new in box.
If condition of my Bernina wasn't just the same, I'd never use his pic. All I did is used picture of new knife to tell about MY new knife, that's it. And I explained why I acted like this. If you can't live without my bernina's pics, you'll get it. But tomorrow, cuz now it's time to sleep.

Here are two Wengers, an 85 and a 65, i bought recently:

Nice variants with SS scales. I did not find the model numbers or names in the WIKI.

But I found out that the scales are glued on and that the glue will be dissolved by Swiss Army Weapon Cleaning Oil....
It does a good job of cleaning debris and gummed oil, too btw.

I would like to know the model names and what kind of glue you would use to reattach the scales.

Thanks - I knew the "standard" scaled version had this name but did believe this Version might have a special name.

The 85mm is a Stainless Traveler. There's also a Stainless Serrated Traveler. Both were sold in the U.S. with the same number, 16632. Don't have the European numbers in my notes.

I was pretty surprised, too.
You learn something new everyday...

I´m thinking about non-acidic Silicone to reattach the scales.

Thanks, Guys!

Would it be heresy to put the scales on another Wenger of my liking? (Say my new Minathor, for example) or are the Stainless ones common enough that collectors won´t  :twak: me when I do so?

Edit:
Or maybe a Blackout would look hot with those scales, too...

There are one or two purist collectors (not me) who would accuse you of forging a fake, but all the modders here would say go for it. :tu:

I have no bad feelings modding my stuff. I only hold myself back when I know the item is a rare or collectors item and I can do my mod another way, too.
For example, I´d not tear apart a perfectly fine old clip point / 5 winds corkscrewdriver SAK just to harvest a scissor layer without a backtool.

The silver colored stainless handles are a fairly recent standard production item that showed up on a half-dozen models. Some of the fancy versions with cigar cutter might be rare, but I doubt the Traveler is.

I have a brushed stainless Traveller and a brushed stainless Pocket Tool Chest, and the adhesive has held just fine on those and they've had a good amount of pocket carry and use. The fact they use adhesive doesn't surprise me, as it would be difficult to secure a pressed shell like that another way. Might be worth tracking down some of that 3M tape that the nite ize pocket clips are attached with .... although I think you only get one shot at lining it up with that stuff  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

According to this topic
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,43091.0.html
the Dynasty/Diplomate serie has the scales glued as well.
I have a King Arthur just coming back from Delémont which should have the scales (provided by me) replaced (by Wenger).
Will post pictures when I'll get it.

I have nothing to complain about - The glue held just fine until i immersed the knives in the cleaning oil.
I think teh outer liners of the knives are formed difefrent than on plsatic scaled models, right? Or is this just a newer/older version of the Liners?

The liners on Wenger have changed quite a lot over the years (there is a thread about it somewhere), which might explain them looking different
