The most iconic Wenger to me oddly enough...the Swiss Business Tool. These came in 4 models, starting with the Swiss Business Tool 45, 50, 55, and 60. I managed to get all 4, but it did take some hard searching on my part, and I only got lucky once I started my search on the European Continent.

Nice selection of Swiss BusinessTools!  :tu:

A dealer in Switzerland claimed that the BusinessTool is what wrecked Wenger. Apparently the company spent millions developing and tooling up for it, only to have it bomb. He noted he could walk down the street and buy a decent stapler in an office supply store for a few SwissFrancs, and everyone else did.

To just agree with both Francis and Chako, I would consider it an iconic failure:)
While you all probably know how much I'm in love with the Wenger brand, I must admit that they failed really hard on this.
Don't really know what they were thinking while developing this tool.
Chances that a businessman would need a mutitool on his desk are close to none, in my opinion.

I have a Business Tool and do actually use it. I wouldn't personally say it was iconic either (just personal opinion), but it certainly embodies the adventurous nature of the company.

It doesn't function better than standard office equipment, nor offer any significant benefit over having a separate stapler, scissors, extractor etc etc ... but it's quirky, fun, very clever, and very well made

It's such a genius tool I wish they were still available today as I would still use it.  I still can't get over the dissolution of Wenger ... I have to pinch myself daily  ::)
I just checked ebay and all models were still available.

I just checked eBay.ca...and yes, all models are now listed. 2 sellers now have them up for sale. That is just great actually. When I looked for them a while back, they were impossible to find on this side of the ditch.
A little Leatherman information.

I had the black knife in this set for a while, but could not really find out much information on it, I was not even sure who made it, I think it was sold as a Victorinox, but of course it looked for close to some of the previous Wengers we've seen with the imitation tortoise-shell and what appears to be an imitation-horn.

I picked up the extra one last week and one of them has the Tahara stamp like the previous similar ones, so I'm pretty sure these are all infact Wenger knives, or they were made by another cutler and sold by more than one company.

(Image removed from quote.)

Adding one more to the group.  This one is in nice shape, but has no emblem on the scales, both sides are clean.  Blade is stamped Wenger Tahara, and one side of the main blade (the reverse) has some pretty visible machining marks left even after the high polish.

A snipit of 1970 catalog information from a "Preview Brochure" by Pricise.  Some of you must have seen it before because it was the most expensive two pages I ever bought.  Of corse there is always those forum lurkers as well.

I like the Teton with the full serrated main blade.  I had one or two and traded them away.  I wish I still had them.

If anyone ever comes across one, please let me know! :D

Thx.

Thanks for the pictures!
I was the first bidder.
Since the auction was ending at like 4 o'clock in the morning here, I placed earlier a crazy bid of around $ 45 and went to bed, thinking that I was going to win.
I was also assuming that the Precise catalog had more pages on Wenger, not only two.
Anyway, next day, was really surprised to see that I didn't win.
So Francis, I understand it hurts a little, but even not considering the second higher bidder (don't know who is he), this catalog were not going to be sold only for few dollars.
The seller was smart enough to use the words "swiss army knife" in the auction's title, that I think was the reason the auction was noticed.

Nice, perhaps you could try to polish a little the main blade.
I think I need to upload on the wiki a picture of model 1.23.03.02 which was basically the black color version of this knife.

Ok, model 1.23.03.02 added to the wiki.

Just keep in mind that the name "Major" (along with "Colonel"), while useful for reference, is not official, but only given by a specific distributor. At least, this is what I think.
To show this, I have uploaded on the wiki a 2 pages italian brochure from the 1990-1995 time period.
You can find it in this gallery
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_gallery.php?galleryId=70
You can see that many models had a name applied (sometimes similar to the english counterpart, sometimes completely different), but this was done only for the italian market.
P.S. Funny thing is about the name of the Tool Chest Plus
"Superdotato" could mean, italian, both talented (so the reference to the Supertalent), but also has a very explicit sexual reference  :D

Yeah it's pretty scratched, have any tricks or thoughts on how to remove them.
I had few Wenger blades re-polished, by I had the work done professionaly by a shop.
Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to do these kind of jobs, but I'm sure there are here on this forum people who knows how to do it.

Latest Wenger is a Ranger Ap Blaze 50, i already got this in Snow Camo but i could not resist this in Ap Blaze. This is an excellent size (thickness). I can live With that the cutout in the scale for the missing awl. Very well put together!

Wenger EVO Grip 10 Blackout model. This one is used and bought that way so now you can see what wears on these things. So far it looks like only the scales and some around the backside liners area where the key chain was.

No daylight so picture is not well, this model do not have a awl but they used the handle scale with the cutout(this is on the 50 models). It is absolutely no problem , the knife is really well put together and the quality just really high.
