PHEASANTS:

There are two Wengers with pheasants on the handle. The first (shown) is a three-blade version with packlock. It's number is 16987. The same knife was sold as the Cumberland (16981) with a hiker on the handle. The Cumberland is part of a Backpacker series, and has that name on the main blade. Don't know of a plain handle version

The second Pheasant (no photo) is a larger eight-blade version (16954). It's blades included: Main blade, small clip blade, saw, scissors, can opener, bottle opener/screw driver; and on the back phillips s.d. and awl. See page 4 of the 1979 Wenger catalog in the wiki. It's plain handled version is 1 18 13.

Added.

http://www.sakwiki.com/ti...Wenger+Pheasant+4+layered

Not sure on the naming of the one layered one. Is the single layered version also called the Pheasant? Are we OK on calling them the 1 and 4 layered Pheasant?

Already sent this to Nikola and Carlo, but a fair amount of work so I'll also post it here.  :D

The Wenger SwissMemory series is a set of knives that feature pictures of Swiss scenery. The original group consisted of two lots, three Esquires and three Commanders, each with a shot of a distinct location. The second group consisted of another three Commanders, with the scenes each being a composite photo of four Swiss locations.

Esquire SwissMemory (photo 1)

Running late as usual but here it finally is. If changes are necessary, let me know.

Thanks for the reply J-C.
Yes, I bet it was very moving seeing wenger disappearing. To be perfectly honest, I'm actually stunned that I've allowed what is basically a knife maker to have made such an impact on my day to day thoughts. Its quite absurd that 2yrs ago I wouldn't have cared a monkeys - yet I'm actually touched by what's happening.

It makes me incredibly angry with regards to our eastern friends who seemingly flood the markets with counterfeit copies simply because they lack the intrinuity to create their own iconic first. And still be allowed to get away with it
It's simply betrayal that a global brand name can be allowed to disappear after surviving for almost 120yrs.

What a world we live in.

I was already a collector of French knives for a long time, I knew Victorinox, as lots of people, but not Wenger. Ten years ago, while I was working in Switzerland, a colleague made me discover this brand and Wenger has become my favorite brand of Swiss army knives mainly due to the ingenuity of its tools and its length 85mm. So you can imagine how sad I learned the scheduled end of Wenger...

I understand that you're angry against Asian copies, but I think that it is a cultural problem. Having the chance to travel a lot in my youth (I have 52 years), I understood that we needed to know and appreciate peoples in what they know to do at the best. Each people has a specialty and in some parts of Asia, as in China, it's the copy. The copy can sometimes be very good and very well done, it's often the case for electronic products, but unfortunately rarely for knives ! I do not want to apologize for counterfeiting because I condemn this practice, but I think this concept is not really understood by Oriental peoples, as Khadafi has never understood the meaning of the word "democracy" ! LOL.

What a world we live in ? I often ask myself this question, but I have not yet found the answer!

I've ended up getting rid of a chunk of my knife collection for the sake of hoarding Wenger SIs and Soldats. I actually moved over from carrying a Vic Soldier to a Wenger SI with a Vic lanyard fob. It's a bit more special, and my small pile of these knives actually mean a lot to me now.
"If you put Bacardi in my glass again and try to tell me it's rum, I will burn this bar to the ground!"

Nikola,

The Pheasants, SwissMemories, and Tactiles are looking great!  The single layered Pheasant is also called a Pheasant.

Now if someone would just come up with a group shot of the Soft Touches for inclusion with the Tactiles. :pok:

Well done!
------
I would be ready to edit the Basic line section.
What about the Basic 5 and 11 reference?
It would be simplier to just edit them, as I need to use the correct names for the knives linked, like the Entrée and so on.
Eventually we could always edit again the pages, since they are mostly links to other knives

I would remove them from the index and add under the confirmed model names that they may be known in some areas as the Basic 5/Basic 11 but that informations has yet to be confirmed, so we're covered in both cases. :salute:

I hear it's hard to take a picture of it due to it's magical properties. ;) The author hasn't been online in years and the pictures he uploaded are no longer on that server. If you find one feel free to post it in the latest SAK thread. I don't think it's a Wenger though, more a Victorinox limited edition being 93mm and having a pruner blade. Wonder if you can chose the wand materials too, or if the First Mage chooses you?

:D

Well, that's it for me!!

I made my last Wenger purchase 10 mins ago - now just need to work out how the hell I'm gonna pay the bill when it pops through the letterbox next month

BUT... I'll take comfort knowing I own a serious slice of Swiss history  :sak:

Hi J-C

Yeah, photo's will follow when they all arrive.
TBH, without sounding melodramatic I actually feel physically ill having spent so much money over the past few months. It depresses me no end!!
Yet, deep down I'm quietly confident that I've made the right purchases. I've had to do an enormous amount of research to try and work out what "I" think will be good investsments. Still, it doesn't remove the guilt trip when I stop to think what all that money could have been used for.

I'm absolutely determined to curb my spending habits in 2014. And, I actually believe I will.

I'll post pics once everything's arrived.
Don't want to tempt fate and say what's coming, you'll all have to wait and see ;)

AhAhAh !

In French we have a proverb: 'Plaie d'argent n'est pas mortelle' it means you will not die after you spent your money !
If you purchased Wengers it will be always good investsments... Even recents knives.
I have 4 or 5 'Coutellerie Suisse' (the name before Wenger & Co) of 100 year old and 1 'Forge de Vallorbe' dated around 1890... Their values grow from 20 to $100 per year, for me it's a good investsment, but I collect knives mostly for fun, not for money.
I suppose my son will sell all my knives when I will die, but it's not important, it will make the happiness of other collectors... So goes life!

(For the Wood Collection under the Wenger series in SAKwiki)

The Wood Collection is one of Wenger's premium Star lines, and was produced in conjunction with the Swedish cutler EKA. Each company offered three knifes, which had similar curved bubinga wood handles made by EKA, and which were marketed jointly. The three Wenger versions are shown below. The EKA versions are shown in the Wenger 1992 (?) French catalog in the SAKwiki (pp 58-59).

The Wengers are:

Wood Collection 01 (Esquire) - 1 78 01
Wood Collection 02 (Commander) - 1 78 02
Wood Collection 03 (Traveler) - 1 78 03

In addition to the three Wood Collection Wengers, Wenger and EKA collaborated on another wood handled knife based on the Traveler. This is the Executive Major (EM-1), and features a more conventional straight wood handle without brass screws. It is shown on the right in photos 2 & 3.

It makes me sad how little the amount of Wengers that make it over here to the US are. I'm not saying they're rare here, but the nearest store to me with them is an hour away.

Seems like Wenger has an overstock of yellow RangerGrip scales.... :D
Don't know if it is an old news, but I just found listed some models for, as far as I understand, the Eastern market.
Had a quick look, but they seem just regular version, with the different scales.

Wenger RangerGrip 71.822 Gardener
1.077.071.822

Wenger RangerGrip 73.822 Electrician
1.077.073.822

Wenger RangerGrip 74.822 Handyman Basic
1.077.074.822

Wenger RangerGrip 174.822 Handyman Pro
1.077.174.822

Done. :salute:

Looks good, but you stomped on my change, so expect a few edits.  I like to have the series pages look a little different.  Not sure about included the knife from a different series.

No problem with changes. As for the other knife it's a Wenger/EKA combination, so probably fits better here than anywhere else.

Any way we can add that EKA-handled Minathor to the page?
