Love the look of that Thuya. I think I said it before but the Ranger 55 with those scales would have been awesome. :dd:

WOW, the right picture just at the right time  :)
Coincidence? I think not... Was in Delemont yesterday :D

Thank you very much for the clarification, and a nice pic too.

Seems like Wenger has an overstock of yellow RangerGrip scales.... :D
Don't know if it is an old news, but I just found listed some models for, as far as I understand, the Eastern market.
Had a quick look, but they seem just regular version, with the different scales.

Wenger RangerGrip 71.822 Gardener
1.077.071.822
(Image removed from quote.)

The Wenger Gardener is no longer manufactured, even with other scales, I think it's from an old stock...

Since I didn't have any new Ranger with the folding scissors, I went ahead and bought one of these Ranger 71.822 from the Czech Republic.
Well, it is for science, isn't it? :D
The shop had the great idea to put their paper label over the Wenger one, so it took me almost an hour to try to remove it and check the identifiers.  :twak:
I can tell you that the name and catalog number are correct (so probably also the other RangerGrip knives I listed in my above message have correct names/identifiers).
The label shows a production date of 04/2013.
Will post pictures of the knife tomorrow, with daylight.

Here are few shots of the RangerGrip 71.
Nothing really special about it, as it is just a Ranger 71 with Evogrip scales.

How do you like the shears on it? I've been thinking of getting one of those for the same reason. Don't have any Rangers with shears. :D

I'm much more drawn to this one. Not a big fan of yellow.

I actually didn't have the opportunity to try them, but if you loved the folding pliers idea, the shears are pretty much the same.
I just wished that the main blade was an one hand opening type, as I prefer it.

I finally received today the "Canoe".
The imprint is hot stamped and looks definately made by Wenger.
The knife configuration is a "locking Monarch" or "cellidor Lancelot" if you prefer.
We should really try to find some informations about the Monarch with locking balde, as I saw plenty of them for sale.

Was working on the SAK Boy Scout knives and came across an odd Wenger variation that I don't have a name for. Basically its a early Evo S111 with classic (flat) grips. Alternately its a Canyon with lock, or a World Scout/Day Hiker with a small clip blade instead of the nail file. It was done for the U.S. Boy Scouts. Wenger did a series for them from 1982 to 2000. However the numbers are totally different from Wenger's normal numbers and I've never been able to definitively figure out what is what.

That BSA is nice!  :tu:

I've got my eye on a few Wenger SAKs now. Won't be long before I pull the trigger on my first. I've never actually owned a wenger in all my years of owning various Voctorinox SAKs ever since the late 70s. I really like idea of getting an 84mm model like their Traveler.

I love also old Wengers !

Before 1908, Wenger company name was "Coutellerie Suisse" with a 3 faces stamp on the tang of the blade...

And I found one (Carbon steel blades)...
On the 1908 "Wenger & Co" catalog this is a "model 505".  I guess it dates between 1895 (new 3 faces stamp of "Coutellerie Suisse") and 1919 (begining of stainless steel).
It seems that Wenger has used this stamp on few knives until 1942.

Before restoration :
(Image removed from quote.)

After a very important restoration :
(Image removed from quote.)
(Image removed from quote.)

Beautifull isn't it ?
Its a beauty for sure, love the tang stamp Wenger used during this period :tu:

Next time I will show you a Wenger Tahara 1920's with cross shield (red and yellow-white) on scales and the 3 faces stamp on blade when its restoration will be finished !

As promised, probably a "model 509 +" if I compare with photos from 1910's catalog...

Poor Canoe. Looks like someone took a bite at it.

Nice find though. :D

Fill the bite marks with clear epoxy, wait overnight for it to set hard, then flatten with wet and dry, finally polish smooth, and you'll hardly see the marks. I do this all the time with chips on knives I find and rejuvenate.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to see if I'll be able to fix the marks.
The above "Canoe" is a classic example of a "must buy", in any given condition.
However, I'm quite happy as the knife seems used very little, and all the tools are almost in mint condition.

I always use lots of water with the wet and dry paper. Water really helps the removed material "disappear" rather than get ground back in to the scale surface.
With care, a mirror polish can be achieved.

I think I found the reason about the Basic line we had been discussing.
http://www.e-webtechnologies.com/sak/html/wenger.html
Have a look at the document in the middle of the page titled "Older Wenger Flyer"

I never saw the catalog numbers used there.
After a bit of searching I found this australian website
http://www.eliteofficesupplies.com.au/catalog2004/
with matching numbers.
My guess is that the Flyer above was used years back for the wiki.
That's the reason why either myself nor Karl could find any reference to those names.
Note also that the Classic line does not match with the Wenger's catalogs.

Interesting find!  :tu:

I once came across an Australia ad for some Vics. Every name was different. For instance an economy Camper was a Picknicker. Guess that's how advertising people justify their pay.  :D

So I was correct in the assumption that the name came from counting the tools on the SAKs. Anyone know where James got that flyer from, Australia maybe? Never seen such numbers before. Possibly the AU distributor used their own names and numbers.

Yes Nikola, you were very correct.
Since it seems these names and catalog numbers were used only for a specific market, I don't see the reason to edit the wiki, as I already kept the odd Basic names in the knives descriptions.
Not sure about the Classic line.
