Guys check this rare Wenger knife that is for sell in Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wenger-Wood-Jr-Swiss-Army-Knife-Complete-in-box-w-papers-Discontinued-Model-New-/130851625636?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item1e775d5aa4

I have never seeing it before.
From the tools i can see (and the box), is a genuine Wenger knife.
Too bad the seller doesn't send to Europe. >:(

Taken from SAKwiki:

Quote
The Wood 01 was a 2009 collaboration with EKA of Sweden who supplied wooden scales, and these scales used large brass fittings for mounting that also replaced the typical rivets used to assemble the knives (the brass fittings appear structural, but could be for decoration). This variation does not include the Toothpick or Tweezers.

Cool looking little Wenger I'd say. 8)

Let us hope that one day ebay will allow us Brits to bid/buy on MT's & SAK's.

It really does get my goat that they take the high view on SAK's & MT's etc which aren't actually illegal, yet then turn a blind eye to all sorts of openly obvious knocked off gear to be sold thus allowing a sales platform for criminal activity.

Pretty disgraceful really.

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Ranger Spearfishing Knife
Reply #455 on: February 19, 2013, 03:33:17 PM
Hello,
I'm attaching pictures of what I believe is a great find!
When I first saw the knife, I thought it was probably a special order made for some company, as I never saw, in the Ranger line, the marlinspike tool equipped in a no-Alinghi knife.
The orange color, as seen on some european-only Wenger Ranger, was interesting too.
Well, after researching a bit, I found some interesting information.
From the Wenger site
http://www.wenger.ch/spearfishing-world-championship
it appears to be a special run made by Wenger to commemorate the 27th Spearfishing World Championship which was held in Croatia on 2010.
According to the link above the knife was given to all participants to use in the competition.
According, also, to the first document found on the bottom of this page
http://www.cmas.org/spearfishing/114-29019-php
there were in total 63 competitors.
I think there were probably more knives made, but not too many.

Any idea of what it is?
I don't have big knowledge on the 65mm models, but it seems almost an hybrid between a Macao and a Lithos.
Right now I'm calling this a Mac-ithos  :D

Seems to be a regular item. Perhaps Wenger run out of frontscales  :)

On the box it is described as "Swiss Army 70 sans croix" and it has a number AF.1.070.001.000.01  and was made 07/2012

So an added .01 to the standard. More likely they aren't allowed to use the official shield anymore as they are no longer under the government contract, so they are using up their back scales.

BTW. was there any follow up on the story about the government suing Victorinox and Wenger for using the federate shield on their non army knives, bags, watches, ... ? I haven't been following the story for some time now.

So it is possible to have a Macao with the ceramic nail file, like on mine example?

All my Macaos have the regular steel nail file. Forgot the Lithos had the ceramic files. Was so busy looking at the handle I didn't pay attention to the blades. Went through my other fancy Esquires and only the Lithos have them. Nice find!  :tu:

Very interesting find.  Maybe you can ask Wenger the story behind that one.

Looks like several people are turning up some really great Wenger models.

I think that the alox machine is delemont must be on fritz and they are using up old stock. That wod be the only reason to make it in that manner IMO. It might end up being very rare!

I've had my first three Wenger 85mm's for about a week now and have to say I'm underwhelmed. Two needed pins to be hammered tighter to prevent atrocious side to side play. The third had a scissors screw go from tight to literally falling out with just a few uses. I was able to put it back in, but I'll have to be vigilant about tightening that screw often. All three have weak springs relative to Victorinox. I think the step down in quality would be obvious to most knife users.

These three were all used models, probably more than ten years old, and, hence, may only be a reflection of 1990's or early 2000's Wenger quality. But I've bought quite a few used Victorinox knives of similar age and condition and have never had problems like these. My sample is admittedly small and non-scientific. But I'll shop for Wengers with caution in the future.

I would like to try an newer Evo model, however, as I've heard Wenger quality rose after the Victorinox acquisition.

It also depends how hard a life it's had before. If the previous owner has been working the tools hard and sprained the pins, it could account for at least some of the issues you're finding. Whilst many of my Wengers don't shout as loud on the snap on opening and closing, it's certainly not affected the functionality of them in use. Not sure what you mean by screwdriver screw though

Sorry, meant to say "scissors screw" and misspoke. And, yes, the current condition of these Wengers may well be a reflection of past use and abuse. But the same would be true of used Victorinox knives I've bought as well. It could be just chance that these Wengers were used harder. But it seems unlikely.

I don't wish to convey that I don't like the Wengers or regret my purchases, all of which were at pretty bargain prices. For the money paid, these Wengers are fun and functional. But their construction seems a bit delicate compared to similar Victorinox models. These will be users, so I'll see how well they hold up to hard use (but not abuse).

I also bought a 1990 SI a couple weeks ago (had a thread about restoring a snapped tip). I find the quality on it to be equal to the Victorinox alox models.

Ah, ok - I'd suggest taking the screw out and putting a bit of threadlock or something gummy on the thread before putting it back. Threads wear, and temperature changes for such small threads can make a difference too sometimes  :tu: Oh - and don't over tighten the screw either, there is meant to be some play on the Wengers for them to work properly. The underside of the scissor arm has a chamfer, and a corresponding chamfer on the top of the spring lever. This is to kind of push the arms apart, which  in turn pushes the blades together  ;) Nip the screw up too tight and it will have an adverse effect  :salute:

I'd say 85mm Wengers aren't quite as robust as 91mm Vics, but a bit more robust than 84mm Vics. In some ways they are a little more robust with having the locking drivers, but that might lead people to work them a bit too hard ... which might have happened to yours  :)

I'd definitely give one of their newer models a try if you can to remove the "past abuse" issue. You'll still find the springs to be a little softer, but should eliminate all your other issues

Understood. I had already planned to pick up some Lock-Tite this weekend and give the Tradesman some attention. Lock-Tite is good stuff to have around anyway.

I was lucky I didn't lose the screw altogether. What a pain that would have been to replace .... probably easier and possibly cheaper just to buy another used knife.
