Leatherman 5 star security bit
on: November 05, 2006, 06:27:40 PM
I just received my LM sideclip. Boy I love this tool! :)

The only problem I have with it is the clip is loose and that the pliers are on are loose as well.  :o

Where can I get a 5 star security bit to tighten it? ???

Okay.

Any idea what to use in case this falls through. I don't want to send this in to LM.

I think the guy that may be getting them has a set of his own.  You may be able to contact him and see if he can do it for you.

Did we ever get these 5-point torx security bits.  I need one.  I think the size is 8 or 10.

You need a size TS10 for Leatherman tools Tom. I've scoured the internet, but the 5-star tamper proof torx design is licensed by Textron, and they keep a pretty tight lid on it.

That being said, there is one seller on eBay selling sets of bits and a ratchet for $19.99

Of course, you need two TS10 bits to work on a Leatherman, which means double the price!

If you can wait a while longer though, I may yet have a way of obtaining individual hex bits, rather than an expensive entire two sets. I'll keep you posted.

Sorry, nothing new to report on obtaining individual bits. Still in the works, but I've been distracted a little.  :-\
Hang in there.

I went to one of my local auto parts store(not the big name chain stores)  that sells s&k tools and had him order just the size ten 5 point tamperproof bit. Since a large part of there business is to jobbers no questions asked.  I also managed to get one from the s&k tool truck but he had to special order it so it took several weeks.

That's where I just ordered my Knipex tools.  I haven't received them yet, but I have no reason to doubt their goodwill.  They're just a stone's throw from where I live in Colorado (in Wyoming).

I just ordered two from Chad's.  I'll let everyone know when I get them.

I just ordered a couple for me, plus some extras. (from Chad's) On the previous page that showed all the available sizes of 5-star bits, there was some mention made of "authorized users only." However, the order I placed went through with no hang-ups.

Now we'll see if the bits actually do show up at my door.
