Send it to me for through testing

I already interviewed for the position.

Syphilis does the layer behind the bolt wrench thing matter? Like as a backstop.

Lol

Naw i had it on the back first then realized the blade would get trashed.  If it had a full liner though that could solve that.

The autocorrect probably picked up that word, maybe you were communicating with your doctor alot?  :D

Wow that is awesome. will there be some type of marking to know which side is which?

Yes ideally I would like to have markings but a laser engraver is out of my price range, so Im not sure what to do.  I have hand stamps of letters and numbers and thats about all I can think of.

So I'll put a C for counterclockwise and a C for clockwise that should help!

Could pick up an arrow metal stamp to indicate direction of rotation.  Would stamping displace too much metal or deform the scale too much?

This thing is COOL :D

(...)
The wrenches work great! One side is to turn counterclockwise, the other clockwise. I put that scale as the front to keep the blade layer from damage. Also the cap lifter works great to retain the 1/4 bit for bits that are slightly on the thin side and want to fall out.  Id like to pretend that was by design, but its just a very happy coincidence.

(...)

Do you really need two sets of wrenches? Can't just one be enough? If so, you could use the other to have either other sizes (metric/imperial) or different tools (O2 key, for instance).

I think that if you were to use the same wrench clock and counter clock, the bolt/nut would tend to slip out of the cut out depending on the orientation (I could be terribly wrong, so don't take my word for it). If you look at the Wenger inline, you need to turn the tool the other way around in order to loosen/tighten.

BTW why not stamp, L and T?

I looked and only have letters so L and T would work.   :tu:

Yes my ver 1 had only 1 wrench, i went to use it and realized it could only loosen not tighten.  Rev 2 changed the teeth to be on both sides.. that was worse and worked for neither, so I settled on thsi version.  If it was a one piece tool you could just flip it over to change, but its attached to a SAK, so not possible.  :D

There is a way to make one that would do both but the wrench ends up being 2.5 times as long, so this was the best compromise I could come up with and keep it pretty universal.  The teeth work on all the imperial and metric nuts I tested on.

Syph, I don't know the specifics of copyright law but i would put a "c" inside a circle with 2015 on this. These scales are going to start showing up on Chinese knives in about 4 days! Imitation is the sincerest form of intellectual property theft!

LOL good idea.  :D

I dont think the chinese copiers worry about following the rules though.

I think since alot of people dont care for the can opener, this should be the new standard 3 layer model.  Stop thinking of the opener layer as the opener layer, but instead the driver layer and move it to the middle.  Works great. :D

Syph, which do you think is a better setup, the two opener springs with the openers opposite the 3d Phillips or single spring with bottle opener opposite 3d Phillips? I'm thinking of trying to do this myself as my first real mod, which one is easiest to get to work out?

The dual opener springs mod is easier as you dont have to alter the springs at all.  For the phillips / bottle opener one you use a single blade spring, but you have to alter one end to be the same shape as the opener layer end that is used on the bottle opener.

Thanks so much, I will probably have more questions once I get into it, lol!  I think I am going to go for a small pen blade in place of the can opener if that will work.

If you're making custom pieces anyway could make a layer with a true 1/4" driver? Might be a bit wide but seems like it would leave room for a bit holder. Watching this progression it almost seems as though these aren't really Vic models anymore. More of a true custom.

This gets asked a lot (I know because I asked it once ::)).

The philips/opener layer arrangement doesn't work on the 91mm frame.

Syph - now that you're making parts, which is awesome, would it be possible to make a 91mm back spring for a Phillips/opener layer? Bet it would be popular.

It isn't the spring that is the issue, there is not enough room. The parts hit one another.
