I think since alot of people dont care for the can opener, this should be the new standard 3 layer model.  Stop thinking of the opener layer as the opener layer, but instead the driver layer and move it to the middle.  Works great. :D

(Image removed from quote.)

The two openers fit the philips screwdriver width, right? I've seen this in other mods from you. Why not use a modded can opener turned medium sized flat screwdriver? Or a second bottle opener, with a smaller tip and maybe the inside curve sharpened to use as a shell package opener?...

It's my OCD speaking, hate to see unused spaces in there...

I am sure Syph will be along to answer this but for now the reason just the one bottle opener is used has to do with the fact it is a little narrower because only one back spring is used. Unlike the double opener across from the inline phillips which uses two.

So it not really that much unused space.

The amount of unused space in the dual spring mod, that is the space on either side of the phillips is 0.060" not enough to fit another tool in there.  And the benefit of that mod is that extra space is used up by the lugs on the phillips and it prevents them from hitting things like the scales.

The washer needed with the bottle opener is 0.020" to make it thick enough to be the same as the phillips in the one blade spring mod.   This is the nicest setup if you dont need a can opener.

I built another Ti 84mm mod.  :D These things are pretty sweet, but man they do take alot more hours to build than the equivalent 91mm versions.  That is one reason I stopped doing them before as it didnt make sense to me to make something smaller that ended up costing more...

I do see the appeal though very pocketable size with great functionality.  :D

Lovely 84mm there Syph. Might be more trouble and cost but the 84mm is a really convenient SAK for those of us that spend a lot of time driving a desk and don't want to cause a quiet moment in meetings by fiddling with a 111m when they get boring ....

To spice things up I have a new tool layer coming out for 91/93 size that is a drop in replacement for the saw (uses saw backspring).  Its being waterjet right now....  any guesses?  Its one tool but I did up 3 versions of it since I couldnt decide what I liked best.  Its been on my list of requested tools for some time now.

Did I miss the debut? Lots of nice mods lately, not sure if this was one of them.

A version of it is on the donation giveaway for this month.  The marlin spike.  I have 3 different versions though being made now from 440C.

The nice thing is it will work as a direct drop in replacement for a wood saw on any 91mm or 93mm SAK.  So.. if someone wants a marlin spike user model, then can have one affordably.  Right now marlin spike alox models are expensive.  But, if you could buy a standard cellidor huntsman and swap the saw for marlin spike you can have a spike to actually use.  :D  I would have no problem selling the parts to people who wanted to do their own swap as well, as its just a matter of repinning one rivet.

I was challenged to build a simple bladeless alox mod but with keyring attachment.  I ended up milling out some of the backspring to make a recess for the attachment point and that worked out ok.  Normally that part belongs in the blade layer so having a bladeless mod makes adding the keyring more challenging.

This one is a pretty unique configuration.  Not bladeless, but missing large blade.  I had to make a bit of a recess on the pliers body to allow access to the small blade, but it worked out ok.  :D

This has 4 washers in there of all different thickness to get the tools to have the right fit.  0.015, 0.020, 0.032, 0.040.  :D

The combo doesnt team up well with other tools as its nail nick is on the same side as the small blades, but it might be possible if on tool was altered to sit a bit higher or lower.

Ya its interesting to have customers drive the configurations by telling me what they need and asking if can I do it.  Unless its completely crazy I like to figure out some way to get it done.  I would for sure not have come up with some of these configurations if I wasnt asked to.  :D

I made up a batch of Ti liners for 91s, and finally got around to using some. I tumbled them with the scales so they all had the same finish.  I even shaped the one between the saw and blade layer to match the stock one with lower end on it to prefect wood saw from accidentally hitting it.

As with all Ti mods, but especially Ti liner and Ti scale mods, all friction points with the steel tools have been carbidized for smooth operation. Without that any Ti mod will eventually gall.  :D
