I've read a LOT of very positive reviews of the new Jeeps.  :tu:

Yup. That new Pentastar engine is smaller than the previous one (3.6l instead of 3.8l) but produces 65hp more.

Its not as proven as the old 4L in my old one, but I have been hearing great things about it.  Of course this is only the second year its been around d so its hard to argue reliability.

How is the 3.8 on oil?  I'd heard that some of them were eating oil like crazy.  I'd heard as much as 3-4 liters of oil between oil changes.

I'm at the Jeep dealer now looking at the final numbers and details. I'll probably place my order for a brand spanking new 2013 model today.  I've decided to go with Commando Green rather than Gecko Green. Sure it's not as bright but I feel it's more in keeping with the Jeep tradition.

Wish me luck!

Ahh, now I'll probably be the only one getting stuck!!   :bnghd:  Lift and tires, lift and tires, that's what I need, that's what I need!!!

Are you going to sell the old Jeep, or trade it in?

Ive heard that too. I change mine every 3000 miles with regular quaker state...never low. For some reason the gas tank is always low.

They aren't giving me much of anything for a trade in so I'm going to have to try and sell it privately.  Its still a very good truck but I just can't look after it the way an old truck needs.

February, wow!!  I don't know if I could take that wait   :ahhh :ahhh

Since this is the tire kicking thread, my wife went to look at the new Civics after work, and ended up buying one  :ahhh   She really wanted a new car, and I said just go get what you want.  Now I can use that to my advantage to get my lift and tires though  >:D

I promise I won't comment on Hondas and how much I hate them....

The bank apparently thought I needed a new Jeep as well as the approval seems to have come back in record time.

Expected delivery date on the new one is mid February, but it's possible it might be here some time in January.  I'm excited to get the new one but I'm going to really miss the old yellow one.  I've put a lot of miles on my old TJ and I hate to lose faithful old friends.

I went for a few comfort features the old one doesn't have- power windows and locks, power and heated mirrors, heated seats, LCD touchscreen stereo with nav, remote start, bluetooth and of course hard and soft tops.  It's kind of overly fancy for a Jeep, but it's also my mobile office so I decided to splurge.  I also got an automatic transmission this time which is a bizarre and unnatural choice for me, but the clutch in the new models has no feel to it whatsoever and I have no confidence in it.  Also, my wife still can't drive a stick so I figured I'd get something we both could drive in case we want to trade cars for some reason.

We've never owned a Honda before, so I can't really say anything about them. I was hoping she would pick a new VW as we are on our third Jetta right now, and loved them all.

I can't say I blame you for wanting all the comfort features. Spending a ton of time in a vehicle, you might s well make it as comfortable as possible. We bought a standard as that's what we both prefer, but I would strongly consider getting a Jeep in an auto as I much prefer that for offroading.

Haha, don't trade too often as you might lose your new Jeep!  :)

My wife doesn't drive her car too often, but there have been a few times where I was doing a job way out of town and thought that it might be better to take the car rather than spend a pile of money on gas.  Doing that I'd feel bad leaving her with a truck she couldn't drive.

My family had a few Hondas growing up and they didn't like the cold weather and would rarely start in the winter.  Admittedly that was 30 years ago and I'm sure they have improved somewhat in time.  Still, I am not a fan of Asian imports at all, but that's just personal preference.  I like European cars and American trucks.  I really, really like European trucks but I can't afford any of them.

I have not driven any 30 year old Hondas but the recent ones have a very good reliability record. Check the UK (cold weather) publications where they are always in the top posts for customer satisfaction. You can still get a lemon but you have to try hard to get one.. US made cars however....
I would worry about getting a US brand/made car with all that electronics in it, like your new Jeep, (or a Land Rover incidentally) though I have very limited experience of US cars, so I go by reputation only in their case.

I've driven Honda Accords for the last 5 years, and I've had far less grief than with any other car I've owned. They're not "exciting" or particularly "fun", but I get in turn the key and away I go with minimal hassle. The VTEC engine has a decent enough bit of poke to get you out of mischief too  >:D

Congrats on the new motor  :tu:

If the clutch on the new ones wasn't horrid I'd likely have gotten another standard.  Besides, it's your fault for living in Europe where there are very few standards.... and I think me waiting 20 years for you to learn to drive was enough!  :D

As for Hondas, well, I don't care for them.  It's a personal preference thing.  I'm not saying they are bad (although I can provide proof if anyone really wants it :P) just that I don't like Asian cars in general.

I'm not a fan of Asian cars for the most part either, and never really wanted a Civic, but that was only because that's what the teenage guys would drive with a stupid 4" exhaust and other obnoxious "upgrades".

I'm looking forward to having a brand new car though as this will be our first.  We both always said we would NEVER buy new, but that went out the window!!!

I'd buy two of them just so I could smash them together... assuming I could get them to any speed great enough to cause destruction!  Fortunately shoddy construction means that speed wouldn't have to be that great....

Derek- my wife has only had new cars (admittedly only two so far, spaced a dozen years apart) and I've never had a new car, so this is a new experience for me.

Well, I am a freak.  I called the dealer this morning and had him change the color from Commando Green to Gecko Green.  I like the Commando Green but I think I like the brighter green better.  I kind of felt like I was pretending to be an army man with the Commando Green, so I fixed it.

I still like the Commando Green, I just think the Gecko Green suits me better.  Sorry for screwing around on you Micah!
