Well we picked the car up this morning, wife loves it, and me, not sure yet. I haven't been able to find a comfortable driving position, and the road noise is pretty bad.

It drives nice, but the steering has zero feel to it, which to me just sucks!  The clutch isn't bad, and the gear changes are nice and short, and precise.

The car only had 11km on it when we picked it up, and we put about 180 on it today.  I'm really hoping it will grow on me so think it's a sharp looking car.

One good plus for me is I get to buy my lift kit for the Jeep when we sell the Jetta.

Well it has grown on me some.  It is nice to drive, but I still haven't found a spot for my left arm.  The arm rest is too low, and the top edge of the door is too high.  The thing I like the most is not having to worry about things breaking down, and having to do a bunch of repairs like with older cars.

I'm going to miss our Jetta TDI though.  I've come close to stalling the Civic a few times as I'm use to being able to just let the clutch out in 1st or 2nd gear with no throttle on the Jetta and it would go, whereas the Civic won't even do it in 1st.  Bye bye diesel torque

If the Civic has a Vtec engine then you have to rev it hard, to get into the fun zone... They love high revs and the noise becomes really sexy!

Good luck with the Honda Derek.... and better luck with the lift kit on the Grand Cherokee!

My Jeep found out today that it was going to be replaced and decided to punish me.  The tensioning arm bearing went on it whichever meant all of a sudden I had no power steering, no fan, no alternator etc.

I managed to coax it to a garage but the part wasn't available and has to be couriered from another city. It should be here first thing in the morning, but there's another $200 gone.

I've got until Wednesday to finalize the order on my new one, and I'm thinking I'm going to spend the extra few bucks and add in the limited slip differential.  Its not a pile of money extra and might be handy to have.

Any thoughts on the limited slip different? Do I need it?

I'm no help I'm afraid. If someone told me I had a limited slip differential, I'd probably book an appointment at the osteopath

Basically it transfers power to wheels that aren't slipping.  Handy, but I'm not sold on whether I need it or not.  Its not that much to order it, but impossible to get after the fact.

On a Jeep, it's probably not necessary (except for extreme rock climbing), but if it's only $200, it's a lot less than adding an ARB locking diff later.  On our 1 ton dually it's useful because the rear end tends to float a bit, so limited slip diff helps with traction.

For the tensioner pulley, that's just an age related thing.  Too bad it couldn't have held out for a couple more months, but it's just a roulette wheel spin.

Actually the limited slip different option is $475 and my thought is that I've never had it before so I probably won't miss it.  If it was $200 I would have probably just gotten it and not worried about it.  Even at $475 with the financing it's pretty well an immaterial cost, but that is still $475 I don't need to spend.... especially since I splurged on the LCD stereo with navigation.

At almost $500, I'd probably not add it now.  If you find you could use it, for just a bit more, you could add a full locker (like a Detroit locker).  $500 seems high for limited slip, especially on a Jeep (which doesn't really need it for most situations).

You were suppose to break he news gently to old yellow. Sorry to hear about the pulley.  As soon as the Jetta sells I should be placing the order for the lift!  :gimme:

For the limited, for how little extra a month it will cost I'd say go for it.  You'll only need it when you get stuck   :ahhh  For  winter driving a limited slip is better than a locker/lunchbox locker.  A selectable locker is the best way to go, but I'm not sure how much one would be for the JK.  You should see if Jeff has priced them, and it might scare you into the factory limited slip, which I hear is suppose to be pretty good.

Just remember, they're not just for rock crawling.  If you get stuck, with an open diff it will send power to the wheel with the least resistance, meaning you'll stay stuck.  With the Jeep limited slip, it will send power to the wheel with the most traction, giving you a better chance of getting out.

Haha, just noticed you all ready posted that

Quite simple, $500 (rounded to be easier for my feeble math skills) over five years of financing (taking interest out of the picture) works out to $100/year, or just under $10/month.  As I said, almost insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

I am tempted to get it just to have it, but I've made it this far without it. If I'm stuck I'm stuck, and while this might help sometimes, there's a winch for $400 at APJ right now that I think will get me unstuck from a lot more than a limited slip differential.

At least, that's how I look at it.

For maximum off road ability you should get a full locking diff as the limited one, from what I remember, needs both wheels to have a bit of traction to work. If one of the two loses all traction (up in the air) then it will just spin leaving the other one stuck and not moving.
As I said it has been a few years since I read Fourwheeler magazine, but that is what I remember. The 4WDs I have as far as I know run normal differentials.

Also remember that: “The better the 4WD the further away from home you will get stuck”

Yes, I certainly have learned that one a few times!

I know a guy whose theory is that 4WD is a safety feature. Go as far as you like into the woods in 2WD, then when you get stuck go into 4WD, get yourself out and go back the way you came since you've obviously gone far enough!

I got a message from Chrysler today saying that there is no mire Gecko Green and I have to pick another color.

So, yellow is unavailable, gecko green is out, I asked about Dune gold which I also liked, that's not available.....good thing I'm ordering from the factory to get exactly what I want....

My choices are:

Silver
Black
White
Dark blue
Commando Green
Rock Lobster

White and Commando Green are the only real options on that list in my mind, and my wife hates the white, so it looks like Commando Green is the winner. I have also switched to the two tone interior.

Hmm...

How can they "run out" of paint at the factory?  Is Gecko discontinued?  What are the colors for the "new year"?

That seems smurfy to me... >:(

White is nice! You can put Multitool.org labels on it too and look like you are driving a delivery van!!   :D :D

Commando green should be Ok, but if you are lost with it in the forest nobody will be able to spot you...  :D :D

Dark blue could be nice...

In general with cars I love black and hate white. Beyond that colours depend what car it is.
From the list Whoey linked to, I'd personally go for the black or maybe billet

Dozer is supposed to be yellow not orange. I think its really hideous.

My boss has a black one and I get accused of being his Mini Me too much already.

The billet silver is nice but it's just not me.

The blue is nice but I have a blue car already.

I like the white, and I thought it would be fun to swap doors with my boss and drive around pretending we are cops, but my wife doesn't like the white so that's out.

Rock Lobster is a bit too pink and I'd never live that one down.... :P

So it looks like I'm back to Commando Green, although I really did like the Dune and I'd have signed off on that instantly if it had been available.  It reminds me very much of the Yuba Gold the truck that my parents had most of my life, and my personal inspiration for my truck love.

Grant,

Is there any value in checking with a couple other dealers, to see if they can get your color?  Here in the States, it seems like some dealers can get the cars/trucks they want and other dealerships have a harder time. ???
