A Tale of Two Skeletools
on: August 08, 2013, 11:20:31 PM
Following up on my Juicy SAK Concept I bring you a Tale Of Two Skeletools.

Can you see the difference?

How about now?

As you can see, these are both early issue Skeletools, since neither has a serrated blade, and both are marked Patent Pending, and one has obviously seen some use, but trust me, there is a very important difference between these two, at least for the collector!

Do you see it now?  There's something scrawled on the side of it... what does it say?  Let's get a bit closer, shall we?

PILOT RUN JAN 2008

What the heck does that mean?  Simple- it means this Skeletool was issued to staff in house at Leatherman prior to them being made available to the public.  Technically, this would at best make it a pre-production sample, but more realistically one of the first production models, and therefore not really special or different other than the wording on it.

Turn it sideways and it pretty well becomes exactly like my other one, which was one of the earlier ones made available too, possibly even the same vintage, but my other one doesn't have it's pedigree stamped into it like this one does.

Functionally it really is absolutely no different from the regular one, but to a collector those little imprinted words mean a world of difference!

Nice 8)

Did you notice any changes in the finish between the pilot run and the production model?

Not really.  The production version seems a slight bit duller, but that is likely more due to the fact that it's been carried while the Pilot Run is bnib.
