I was just abusing the fat man .

I used him to remove rusty coder pins holding a lock nut .

I had to give it my all and pry with the pliers to get them to come out.

I'm starting to be impressed with how strong the cc pliers are.

This is one of the post why I love your threads! You have a working mans attitude I really like  :salute:

One question: What are CC Pliers?

Same here.  While I don't put my MTs through the degree of hard use/abuse that Joel does, I really enjoy reading about the abuse they can and do handle :tu:

I think there as strong.

I broke a super tool pliers ten years or so ago. I haven't broke these yet. Yet I got a back up if I do .

I noticed this with carbon blades. Seems the oxides really love some grease.

I gave a Sidekick to my brother (a handy man) two weeks ago as a gift.
Today he came to me with a complain. He was up at high ceiling working on a ceiling fan, the Sidekick was able to pinch the wire but failed give it a clean cut.

Since he doesn't care much about the OHO feature, I offered him my ST300. I told him if he can take the size & weight of ST300, it would be a much better workhorse for him than Sidekick and it will last a long time.

Let's see.
After 60 days, My bro hard uses the smurf out of ST300, it still looks like the day I passed it to him. He bucking loves it! (He would not give it back to me.)
Also he started sound like one of us: I wish it has scissors.

I haven't been updating this topic as much as I maybe should but i know you all know what i use my leatherman for.

here is some thoughts on the fat man after I've used it awhile now.

the st300 is not the old super tool i used when i was a kid.

This tool has come a long way.

it's a beast of a tool that is as heavy as a brick but for what it can do its weight is  worth carrying.

its got so much going for it.

Nice long tools, strong plier head, awesome wire cutter's, plane and serrated blade made of decent steel both with a good usable shape, the V stripper on the can opener , fast cutting saw, decent file/metal saw, wrapped up in fat handles with 0 pinch points, a nice sized tool to use. Alot of added leverage being a tool this big,

mine is black oxide coated and I'm impressed by how its holding up. Its a great looking tool still after its done more work than a lot of tools see in a lifetime.

sadly I wasn't to impressed with the new leatherman sheaths I've tried using for it.

on the good side that means my st300 lives in a skinith now.

i can think of no other tool that could replace it

Sounds to me like the ST300 definitely won your vote of confidence man :tu:  I look forward to your future Wingman challenge.  Also would like to see the Rebar put through more of the abuse you have used the Fat Man for so far.  I would like to see what it can really handle, and unfortunately, I'm not in the line of work to find out for myself.

Quick post

I just want to say how good the stranded wire cutters on the bottom of the head of the fat man work.

it makes working with small wire easy.

the regular wire cutters are not that great on thin wire but the bottom cutters cut it clean with no strands left behind.

one more reason for me to love the fat man.  :multi:

From my experience the Rebar is pretty tough too, I've put my full weight behind it whilst prying with the jaws.
As we know though, if anyone's going to give it a good workout it's Joel  :salute:

You're the one that's gonna use it all day, so you pick what you prefer :) I'm looking forward to the Rebar review.

Could you tell me if the ST300 is the same thickness as the rebar? My brother has an earlier super tool (might be an original one?) and it's the same thickness as the rebar… just bigger in the other dimensions.

Rebar thoughts

I've had a rebar on my belt most nights since I started this review.

its a great tool I've used for a bunch of at home projects.

I'm going to swap out the fat man for the little boy when I decide im going to lighten up my edc for summer.

I am also just a hint disappointed in the little man.

its inside tools are getting a bit lose for my liking . Its not a big issue but still a issue.
They may get full of crap and tighten up when I edc it to,work. If  not and it gets to sloppy its going back to leatherman.

im also wounding if its shorter tools will be a issue now that im used to the fat mans long blades .

it has the same wire cutters as the fat man so we should be able to tell if its the handles of the fat man or are they just that good a cutter.

its gonna be awhile before I take it to work.

well see in a about a month how it handles real work and not just honey do jobs  :multi:

ps
this review has been a a good test for leathermans black oxide coating if nothing else :tu:
