Well I finally got myself a copy. Not the easiest tool to find off of ebay.

Seeing that most people have talked at great length about the Raptor, I will not say much other than to say that this is a clever tool in how it fold and locks open. I will let the photos speak for themselves.

Superb pictures there Chako  :tu:

I'm guessing it's a DSLR using either window light or a light tent. But the lens??? Is it a dedicated macro lens? considering those images will have been reduced significantly to permit uploading - the clarity is just incredible.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Thanks.

The camera I use for online forum photos is a Canon G12 with a Canon Speedlite 430EX II attached to the hotshoe. No light box or anything. I just bounce the flash off of my white ceiling. The macro mode is not bad for what it is.

G12 Eh' the last time I looked they'd only just released the G9.
I often dreamt of owning the Canon G series, never got round to it. Obviously the photos speak for themselves, that camera really is top drawer stuff.
I used to be fanatical about cameras/telescopes/binoculars indeed anything optical. Zeiss/Rolleis/Leicas etc etc. But with the digital revolution I made a vow that I wouldn't travel down that path again - still vows are for breaking...right?  :D

I do all my SAK photos with a canon rebel, with just the lens it comes with.  I keep wondering if I need a macro lens, but so far Im happy with how they look so I havent bothered.  Natural lighting rules over indoor lights though, at least for me.  The metals always look nicer in natural light.

I wasnt excited about the raptor at all, but now this seems to have enough gadget factor that I think I need one now.   I'll wait till they are back in stock at a cheaper place though before I buy.  Everywhere I checked said back ordered until Nov.

Hi Chako! Great photos! I've just picked up a piece from a local retail store for SGD$150 (About 74.3 Pounds). I must say, whatever quality or production issues that were present that caused the hiccup at launch do not appear to be present. The hinge appears sturdy and will probably stand up to some abuse. Ruler scale alignment is good. After seeing the recent launch of brightly coloured and questionably designed sports tools, I'm glad Leatherman finally sorted out the issues with the Raptor.  :tu:

I finally [four months] received mine and am quite pleased so far.  Not with the wait, obviously, but definitely with the product.  FYI, mine was purchased from Knife Center for $56, all said and done.  I don't know if there was some ill will between LM and KC, but they seemed to be last on the supplier list or some such...stuff.  Maybe mine took longer than most - ? - I have no clue...

At any rate, they ARE very nice.  As shears go - they're pretty thick and beefy - so the girls will definitely go for them!   :D  Actually, I just tried cutting through a tuna can top and it was like a knife through butter - truly.  I dig that my Surge has scissors; so does my classic SAK, but a dedicated pair of heavy duty shears like this is really awesome.  As a homeowner who's got a compressed metric ton of crap to do [to said house], I'm going to be hitting these pretty hard.  Eh, you know - I wouldn't use them to start cutting sheet metal, but it's great to know that they can handle some heavy duty stuff.

So...don't walk, but run to your nearest Cabela's [per Metro].   ;)

Also, fyi - the fold-down feature works great and the plastic holder works fine.  Whilst not enjoying what-I-would-call the entire-lack-of-intelligence wait on this product [and now new Surge], I do absolutely respect the follow through [and flow-through] of design that LM is packing into products like these.  I resolutely dig the form follows function that looks way cool at the same time.  Give me more of that, please!  That's intelligent!   8)

Yeah international shipping is getting too expensive and less people want to do it. Well good luck finding one.

You might post in the 'tools wanted' section to see if someone is willing to get one and ship it along to you.

I just checked KnifeCenter again and they've got a great price - $59.85, but are still listing 'significant delays from Leatherman'.  I'm a bit shocked...they're STILL having troubles with this??  WOW.

Cabela's has for $69.  Swiss Knife @ $59.85 in stock!  I'd probably call first.

[Sigh...] They're worth getting, but to see that they're still having some kind of problems on the LM manufacturing side [seemingly] is a tad bit dismaying.  Well, if you've got 'em, smoke 'em.  But you have to find them first!   >:D  Good grief...

Next super great product from LM...I'm going to give them a solid year or something before I check into purchasing.   :twak:

Oh - and the $74.99 price on eBay - yeah, that's a gouge price.  You should be able to do better.

us patriot.  i've never ordered from them before, but they had them available at the time i was looking.  they have been very nice about it, but apparently they haven't gotten their order from leatherman although they have been supposed to several times.

Yeah... :D...not exactly a 'woo-hoo' kind of moment, is it?  I'd say you've been waitin' a bit too long.  That's total BS.  I mean - what else can you say?  Yeah, it's a great tool.  Helps to get it to market, now doesn't it?!

I dunno; I just post here.

well, the company offered to refund me before christmas, since they were having trouble, which i thought was awesome of them, but i told them go ahead and let me wait until they either got the product or had to cancel the order altogether; i wouldn't be able to get one elsewhere anymore easily, i figured.

They are finally on the shelves down here. . Great tool. A little too small for the job maybe. That's just a little too expensive for me. Going for no less than $100 USD. Mine is going to be a user so am waiting for it to go back down to RRP at least before I buy.
