Couple more Spyderco's arrived the other day.  Haven't taken pics yet.  Seemed like good deals.  Pics to follow in time...

That's a beauty Terry.  When you say "small", can I ask how long it is closed?  :hatsoff:

Thanks Gareth.   :hatsoff:

It's 3.7in/93mm closed actual measurement.  The A. Wright small is spec'd at 3.5" and the large at 4.0" closed.

If you see one for sale online and don't know which it is, you can usually tell by the nail nick.  The small will have the nick nearer the center of the blade and the large will be farther out toward the tip.  Of course there's the difference in size of the blade relative to the nick as well.

Look here: https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/catalog/index.php?route=product/member&seller=3361

Funny though, they have the size specs backward, showing the small at 4.0" and the large as 3.5".   The pictures of the small are of my actual knife.

Cool, the prytool at the end of the handle is a pretty interesting concept.  Some of their offering does look quite appealing, how's the quality and the value?

Unexpectedly, these are the the best constructed traditional knives I own, regardless of price.  I suppose it shouldn't be unexpected though, because there are glowing reviews of these wherever you look.  I had high hopes for these and they have exceeded my expectations in every way.

Flawless fit and finish with zero gaps, excellent walk and talk, solid pull without being too strong, thick steel liners, great dye on the bone.  They have perfect lockup with zero blade play, the springs are perfectly flush in all three blade positions (closed, open, 1/2 stop), and the D2 blades are perfectly centered and arrived shaving sharp.

If I were to log any complaint at all I would prefer a bit longer (1/8") blade on the Appalachian Jack, and there is room for it, but that is being very nit-picky and just a design decision rather than one of construction.  It's a $40 knife that I would expect to pay at least $150 for if it weren't made in China.

My favorite is the French Broad Jack though.  The size is perfect for me, I love a Wharncliffe and the beautiful lines and ergonomics are just great.

If it sounds like I'm gushing about these, that is because I am.  :D

Nice.  As an Appalachian resident, I might point out that the French Broad is a river.  Been there many times.  Best wishes.  Gary ;)

Yes, I believe it's a combination of two references, the French Broad River and also that the design of the knife is an homage to the Laguiole.

The handle shape does look like French knives a lot.  I am seeing more and more nice single blade knives on this site.  Must be a trend?  Best wishes.  Gary

Coming from a knife enthusiast, that's quite a compliment.  I think I will start look more for their products, I particular was eyeing their barlow but they do seem out of stock often, from places I usually look.

Yeah Comis, that sheepsfoot barlow is probably next on my list.  It's a beauty.  There is one dealer on AAPK that has those in stock right now, but I have no idea what their international shipping policy is.  I'm pretty sure I've read that RoseCraft doesn't do international shipping direct, but I did read that one of their dealers does.  I will try to find that info for you.

I was hesitant to take more pictures today because it's a dreary day in SEMO, but I couldn't resist.  They're not the greatest, but hopefully they give an idea of the knife's quality.

I've included an 11cm Laguiole for size reference.

Here's the dealer that is recommended by some folks on Bladeforums for international shipping.  Unfortunately, it looks like they're out of many models: https://www.traditionalpocketknives.com/collections/rosecraft-blades

Thank you for this!  I did order TPK in the past, and will continue to try my luck there.

Btw, I am so tempted to try one of their hot sauces.  I never seen a knife dealer selling hot sauce anywhere, they must be onto something here...

Stupidly I've just realised that all my Wright knives would be "small" by this definition.  The 4" (large) would take the blade length over the UK's "reason free" carry laws so I don't think I've even seen them for sale here.  Better market for them elsewhere I guess.

BTW, I'd be very tempted by the ebony Senator in that link.  ;) The Senator has quicky become one of my preferred patterns from Wright.

Yes, I've admired your Senator Gareth.  It's amazing how just adding a bolster to the head of a handle transforms a simple working knife into more of a gentleman's knife.

I've looked on the TPK site after your mention of hot sauce, and I don't see any available.  :dunno:  Do you have a link?

I went to a local cutlery store today for two things, first was making a decision on choosing which automatic knife I'd buy next month. That was actually quite easy, and one I'd decided to buy already, and was sure one I'd handled it--Pro-Tech/Emerson CQC-7A. Plus, the one they had was from the owner's collection, and it was  about $20-30 cheaper than elsewhere.

Second was to buy a Case hawkbill I'd looked at for a number of months on the website, and had money set aside for ever since, but I just wasn't able to swing by there.

1940-64 61011 Hawkbill in Walnut. Seen quite a bit of use in its lifetime, but is still tight, sharp, and snaps strong. It's a little slimmer than the Boker and Utica/Klein ones I normally use.

New to me Lockwood Brothers jack knife.  I've started on a bit of TLC already.  A somewhat worn/broken tip on the main blade has had a light reprofile.  Cleaning and sharpening will come later.

Cheers Steve.  This is what it looked like before I did a little work.  I'm 99% certain that it had lost the tip at some point and it had simply been sharped to accommodate it.  Problem was that the tip was sitting proud of the handle when closed so dropping the back down to the cutting edge made sense to me.  has now had a bath and oil, just needs both the blades sharpened.
