Vintage Scandinavian knife.  Seen a bit of use and abuse but should clean up well enough. Found for peanuts price.

Picked up an Esse 5.  Think on this one I'm gonna etch the logos, blue them, then strip the blade of the tactile coating. I've seen it done and it looks pretty good.

The cheaper of Walmart's Benchmade Bugout clones--the Ozark Trail 7.5" Folding Knife. At five bucks, I couldn't say no. Heck, I bought four of them--one for myself, three as Christmas gifts. Thinking when I go back to return a TV antenna, I'll buy another couple as spares.

There's also a beefed up version (skeletonized liners, D2, reversible clip), but those I had to order. They should be here in a day or two.

While definitely not even close to a Benchmade, it definitely doesn't feel like the typical Walmart el-cheapo--heck, it feels like at least a $20-30 knife--and it's just five bucks!. Even the plastic (polypropylene instead of the stronger nylon) feels sturdy.  Pretty smooth action, and drops closed. Light as a feather too, so chances are, this one's gonna see a TON of pocket time.

Chances are, I'll get a Bugout in M4--eventually.

In my ever-present quest to find the perfect gentlemen’s folder, I saw the CJRB Ria on sale and tried it out. So far I like it. For the bargain price it’s got excellent build quality and materials. The only issue I’ve had so far is the thumb stud can be difficult to use at first because the handle is so slim. It’s hard to know how to grip it. Maybe a knife this thin would work better with a flipper tab? Overall I’m getting more comfortable with opening it and am glad I picked it up.

I went on a similar quest, and I have put the brakes on it, since I haven't quite found what I am looking for.  I got this same folder as well, and found it very difficult to open until I got the hang of it.  After a while it became really easy to open.  However it never found its way into my kit as a perfect gents folder.  Too much gent and not enough folder maybe.  It didnt really elbow out my Pioneer X.

Cold Steel Roach Belly…

For $20, I’m pretty pleased so far.

The sheath is basic but serviceable, which is more than can be said for the sheaths included with some knives many times the price.

Knife and sheath are both very light, and totally impervious to moisture.

I think it could be a decent little camp food prep knife, though both blade and handle have a bit more curve to them than I would prefer for the purpose.

I remember handling one of these at a MT meet-up years ago.  As you say; a very serviceable knife at a very good price.

I probably overpaid for it, but I was stoked to finally snag one of these, even in used condition.  It shows some wear, but everything is still tight and solid, and it will most likely outlast me.

The only thing I don’t understand is why these were limited editions and aren’t in regular production.

Straight in the pocket.
