Thank you. I like it too. Who doesn't just feel good about jeans and denim... Also it seems to be changing too, also like a good pair of jeans. :Tu:

Or were you talking about the notch for the finger pinch? Either way you cut it. It's been a winning combination for me. Thanks

Nice. 8)  Very interested in how that one feels once you get it.  My Wright lambsfoot not-quite-a-Senator is a really nice little knife, and that sheepsfoot is very tempting.

Case Medium Stockman (you know the one, triple spring #47) in CV with red bone handles. I had another knife in this same family, CV red bone, some time ago which I sold because the dye job was really bad. But this one is just...

I was talking about the denim & the easy open notch.
I've never had a EO notch but I can see how it would work great.

Half stops for the win! Great photo of this little gem, as usual. :tu: By the way, how thick is the blade on this guy? The grind makes it look kinda thick, but maybe that's just an illusion.

Sorry I don't have a micrometer. Wish I did, I need to pick up a cheap one from Harbor Freight.

But it is healthy, not overly beefy by any means. It looks to be almost identical to my 2 layers SAK electricians main blade.

You have piqued my curiosity on the #47, so I started looking at them.  Could you post a picture or two of a #47 with the blades closed for me?  One thing I don't like about many stockmans is how "proud" the sheepsfoot blade rests outside the frame.  Case seems particularly bad about this--the sowbelly #39 is ridiculous.  There is no reason for that blade to stick out like that.  They could sink that blade much deeper in the frame if they would just put the nail nick on the back side.  I see that this one is configured that way, which is a good sign.

That's a good enough measurement to me, thanks for the info!

The benefit on the Sowbelly is that you can open everything with the right hand, but you're right, it does sit very high. Here's a hasty, straight-on picture of my carry for today. Hopefully you can see the outline of the sheepsfoot blade here. It does not sit much higher than the clip blade, in fact only about 1mm higher where the clip blade... uh, clips. :) Finally capturing the reflection of my phone in the knife was a good thing here, I think it helps show the blade outline.

Day 24

Case #47 medium stockman again! This one in smooth orange bone with sloped bolsters.

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Beautiful knife, and many thanks for the pics and info.  The 47 looks like a great setup.  The slanted bolsters on that one are purty!  :tu:

I always open folding blades with my left hand while holding the frame in my right, and I've never had any difficultly opening the sheepsfoot with the nick on the backside this way--using my left index finger rather than my thumb.  So, I suppose that benefit of the sowbelly configuration is lost on me.  They could sink that sheepsfoot blade about 1/8" deeper in the frame and the knife would be considerably more comfortable when using the clip or spey, IMO.

Thanks! It's got a variety of decent sized blades in a reasonably slim package, and blade rubbing is usually not a problem.

I totally agree, it's not an ergonomic design at all.

10/30: that half stop tho  :o

Almost all of my early knife carry was a stockman, most stockmans are smooth as glass. I experimented and looked at other patterns but the stockman always won out. I would look at knives with half stops but always passed on them. I bought a Queen dogleg not knowing it had half stops & wasn't sure I would like it at first. The way my mind works is, if I don't see the reason for it I question it. I saw no reason for a half stop but I liked the dogleg & carried it anyway. Now I don't even notice half stops, as long as it isn't a nail breaker. All things being equal I'll choose a round tang but won't let a half stop keep me from liking or buying a knife.

I posed the question on BF as to why knives had half stops and got 6 different answers.
