Toting Frontier 4434 Powderhorn Black Delrin Stockman

The Powerhorn Series of the mid 70's - mid 80's were made by Camillus for Imperial Schrade (Albert Baer of Schrade ran the Camillus factory at the time). They were a premium line designed and built to be equal to the Old Timer offerings. They have carbon steel blades and are often overlooked by users and collectors. I've always thought they were aimed at the "booming" number of Black Powder enthusiasts of the 70's and 80's.  J. Russell's re-introduction of the Green River line around the same time was also aimed at that "exploding" market.  (puns intended on both) :D  The wood handled "Double Eagle" line of these knives have SS blades.

Here are some other examples in the collection.

A great collection, & thanks for the history lesson.  :salute:

I just did a little "shopping" to find out if Case is currently producing a series of mini trappers with the Wharncliffe, and they are--in a very nice looking sawcut antique bone.

The sad thing is, I realized that the new one is $20 more than what I paid for the one pictured above in 2011.  I've only recently been looking at traditional slipjoints again (thanks to this thread) after not buying any for 4-5 years.  I am shocked by how much the prices have increased in that short period of time, and how much harder it is now to find a good deal on used knives.

Day 16

Awesome. We're twinners today.  That antique bone has a great traditional look and looks great with the shield!

Traditional Challenge Day 15

#07 Case Medium Trapper in SS w/Wharncliffe secondary.

The clip and Wharncliffe compliment each other well in day-to-day tasks.

Wow!!!! That's a beautiful Trapper Terry!!!! What scale material is that?

It's orange jigged bone. I haven't seen many with that color dye.  It's from a 2007 run.  I don't think it's the same as the Persimmon Orange they use today, but not sure as I haven't seen one of those in person.

2 or 4 bladed congress is probably my favorite pattern but I haven't seen many of any in this thread  Am I alone in loving that pattern on here :-[ Just curious really :D

I like the congress pattern for whittling, but not particularly for an everyday user.  I have a red bone Case Congress CV from ~2011 new in the box that I should probably sell.  I love the variety of blades that they offer and the form factor, but I prefer something with a longer main blade for carry, so a stockman or jack pattern works better for me.

I started out with stockmans & carried those for years. I have now started to carry one & two blade knives more.
I guess I never gave the congress a chance.

Schrade 34OT was today's college  carry.   I  switched it out for the Case Mini Hawkbill (which, apparently was what the 62031 LHR was called colloquially in the mines, and that the knife was also issued later than the Klein in the mines both facts, I learned from a retired  coal miner today who is one of my classmates)

Day 16
A S&M #69 Stag Barlow.
I got this last spring, on week one I made the 700 mile drive to mom's to visit and take care of repairs. She makes up a list of to do's so I know what tools to pack up. a utility knife was not needed.

First morning I found a dozen roof shingles folded back from 90 mph straight line winds that came thru the week before. So up to the roof I went, all knives need a good break in right.

I tried without success to show all the little scratches but my photo skills are a little lacking.

Beautiful knife.  You'll certainly never hesitate to use it now! (not that you did before)

This is why I tend to shy away from mirror-finish stainless blades, BTW.

I was on the fence about how much of a user it would be, not any more.
I prefer a more subdued finish but you don't always have a choice. It's easy enough to take the polish out of a flat grind if you want.
