Went to a restaurant, today. Had pig's secrets. Not the ones in the pic, but very similar.

I have a month before the challenge to figure something out, Tony.  I will whisper the next part so don't anybody but Tony listen.... I can't really do anything with a Minichamp that I can't do about as well with a Classic....  There I said it.
I might come to appreciate the Minichamp's capabilities more with a daily carry.  It could happen.  I took out my mini and sharpened the primary blade.  The little so-called emergency blade was good and sharp already.  We will see.  At any rate, I have one.  There's a carry challenge.  Might as well put them together.
I appreciate the latest pork succulent surprise, Sr. Santos.  I had a cold bologna sandwich and some Walmart chips.  Just so you know.  Best wishes.  Gary

I've been trying to experiment with this 58mm on a key ring idea.  I will have to figure out some way to tether my Minichamp to SOMETHING if I am going to carry it.  If I just pocket carry the thing, it will be gone.  So, I put a snap link gimmick on the ring with my USB drive and put a Classic SD on the link.  Carried it to town this morning.  Annoying.  The link is a little too long, and the standard Vic key ring too short.  I would like to be able to detach the knife to use it, rather than hold a wad of keys as I try to snip or cut something.  More tests.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Why not make a small pouch, Gary?
Carried mine around, like this, for a bit now and haven't lost it yet.  Might fall out tomorrow but as of now it's working great.

Now that is an idea.  I have several 58mm pocket slips somewhere.  It would be easy to fasten one to a keyring.  Then I could take out the knife when I wanted it without holding onto a wad of keys.  Like I said.  I have a month to figure this thing out.  I'm really bad to lose things.  Most times I find them, but it is still bothersome.  Best wishes.  Gary

No rush.  I tried the Classic on a 3/4 inch ring, and that might work.  58mm slips are too tight for a Minichamp.  The weird thing is I used to make leather items, but lost interest and sold all my tools and leather.  I will figure this out.  No sweat.  The Southern Chapter of Throgg's Neck Small Saks Club will not be defeated.  Best wishes.  G

I started out with a leather remnant package from the local craft store.  Only about $5.00.  Enough there for a bunch of slips.   Small tooling piece about 4x8 about the same price and makes 2.  In the old days I punched holes with a finishing nail.

Nice photo, Tony.  Looks like it might not be too much of a stretch to take off that pretty glowy 58mm and put a Minichamp in its place for 30 days.  Maybe a trial run would be in order to see how it works.  That's what I did.  See if a Minichamp makes you walk strange or pull your Levis down on that side?  Best wishes.  Gary

This is how I've carried my Rambler and peanut lighter for about 20 years.  Works great for me--easy on, easy off and always on my house keys.  Car keys are kept separate.

I think I've had to replace the clip once because the spring broke.

An Alox MiniChamp is almost the same thickness as a celidor Rambler.  So if you don't need tweezers and a pin, the MiniChamp is awesome.

Thanks, but I'd rather have the Rambler.  I don't need the extra tools, I always have T&T on me regardless of what other tools I decide to carry (pic above is good example), and Stayglow helps me find my keys anywhere I might drop them.

That's kind of how I've been thinking.  People keep recommending the Rambler and I take a look at it and always end up thinking why bother if you have an alox Minichamp?  The Wharncliffe blade is dynamite for precise detail work, the hook has so many uses, nothing like the spoon for lifting that last tasty bit of kif from the bottom of the bag,  the little ruler can check guitar action and relief...  Plus the alox is more resistant to key scratch.

I know some folks get by with a classic every day.  I carried a Rambler for a while before I bought my first MiniChamp.  One thing I did back then was to take the pen scale off and put on a toothpick scale to thin it out.
Still keep a Rambler in the truck but my Alox MiniChamp stays on me, daily.

On Windows, I drag the file from File Explorer and drop it into Microsoft Paint, which is a default windows program normally present.  Within there is a Resize button.  Away you go. I usually reduce to 24% but this will vary depending on your camera settings.  On the file menu Save As whatever you want.

I'm not sure what you mean here.  Alox colors wear considerably on a keychain.

It's a good comparison to Cellidor maybe, but not nylon. My stay glow scales are polished smooth by my keys. The only sign that they've been on a keychain for 20 years is that they're smooth and the screen printed shield is gone--there's not a "scratch" on them. Alox would not have faired so well.

Honestly though, I don't give a smurf about scratched scales--Cellidor, nylon or ALOX. For me, always having tweezers with me is worth so much more than any tool the ALOX Mini Champ has in addition to the Rambler, and the Rambler is the only tool that I can truly call EDC.  I own a few Mini Champs, and I've never felt a lack of utility by not carrying one. If I did, I would.

Well alox colors would wear to be sure but aren't most MiniChamps sold just the plain silver alox?  The colored ones aren't that common.  The silver ones wear well with keys.  As for your celidor scales being unscarred by decades in a pocket with keys: you must have different sort of keys than I do.  Here are some Classics I used as key fobs for years.

I'm glad you are enjoying your Rambler.  It's great that we all have so many choices.

Oops, just noticed you are comparing nylon.  Well perhaps those are scratch-resistant.  Once again they are not very common and not terribly representative of the Rambler model.  In essence you are talking about a custom, not a standard Rambler.

I've got scratched , cracked, and downright broken scales that have been glued and JB Welded and I love them all.

As for Alox colors, all I can ever find is silver.
The one that I carry every day is one that I coated with the Boss Lady 's fingernail polish, then rubbed the excess off.  I like the worn look that old Alox takes , but that's me .

Like all the choices we make with what we carry, it really comes down to what you value.  I think many people find that the Rambler offers the most important functions of the Minichamp without the bulk, and that combined with the scale tools that the ALOX Minichamp doesn't offer is why they recommend it.  I carried Cellidor-scaled 58mm SAKs on my keychain for years prior to Stay Glow and never had any issues with them, but I value functionality of a tool much higher than appearance.

I'm glad you are enjoying your Rambler.  It's great that we all have so many choices.

Thanks.  I too am glad that you enjoy your ALOX Minichamp.

I can understand what he means, and it's exactly the same reason why i'll never carry any cellidor SAK's on my keys, ever... And also why the only Alox color for me is basic stock silver.

I actually give a crap about how my SAK's and scales look, keychain ones or otherwise. As well as with most of my stuff, really.... I liks my stuff pristine for as long as possible

No offense bro..., but those scales look like crap. It's like they have been through a war zone.

That's the exact reason i don't let any of my cellidor SAK's go anywhere near a set of keys...

Yeah.  Like I stated, it comes down to what you value.  As long as it's mechanically in good shape, I'm good.  Scales take seconds to replace when they have to be, so I don't fret over them.

We don't have any real quarrel about minichamp vs rambler - all a matter of personal preferences.
