Is Kirky the same as Hiden?

On a serious note...

Def,
What are your thoughts now that MTO has existed for 11 years? How would you like to see MTO 10 years from now?

Question, is the link in the OP supposed to lead to the capts 11th anniversary draw?

Nope. I was trying to post a link to the old thread and I must have not copied it after posting links to the Captain's GAW on FB and Twitter.

I'm guessing the rest of you missed this part....

I dont use Facebook or twitter. I much prefer it here. But is that why there's always an influx in new users when there's giveaways?

Oh yeah, and is a SAK a multitool?  ???

Yes and no.  I do a lot of promotion which brings in new people, but there are also a number of lurkers that read here and don't usually post.  Many of the people of which you speak are regulars that just never say anything.

Unfortunately many of them register and never post, and Micah routinely goes through and deletes new registers with no posts (after a period of time) assuming they are automated signups, so when they do try to enter contests, they can't log in.  Here's a bit of advice if you are reading this and fall into that category:

POST AT LEAST ONCE TO MAKE SURE YOUR ACCOUNT IS PROPERLY REGISTERED.

As for whether SAKs are multitools, I would say yes, but it is a matter of personal opinion.  My thought is that all SAKs are multitools, but not all multitools are SAKs so it is worth differentiating them.

What are your 5 favorite plier-based multi tools?

To use?  In general?

Because that makes a big difference, but overall I would probably say these, in no particular order:

1- SwissTool
2- Spirit
3- Surge
4- Center Drive (I know some folks have had problems, but if you get a good one, its great)
5- SwissGrip

Some honorable mentions would be the Zilla (I love fixed head plier tools) and the PowerLock because it is one of the most solid tools out there.

Yellow.

Or purple.  Depends on the day and what we are talking about.

What is the secret of your special oil?

It's less rape-y than those offered by other companies.

Everyone sells mineral oil at $16/oz.  I am selling it for a lot less.  Not as little as it could be bought at a local pharmacy or grocery store mind you, but mine also comes in a small bottle with my picture on it and different colored caps, so that has to be worth something.

So... less rape-y and it has my picture on it.  That is the secret of Uncle Def's Ultra Premium Tool Oil.

I had a second product lined up for the Uncle Def brand but I never went through with it.  I was going to buy some titanium foil and fold it into hats and sell them, claiming that the titanium was a higher grade of metal than the standard aluminum foil you get at grocery stores, and could therefore block much more advanced signals being broadcast into our brains.  I even thought about trying to flame anodize some of them for a premium price, but in the end the whole thing just seemed to be a bit too over the top, even for me.

How can MTO help improve the world?

Well, given how well this forum is run, and how little the moderation staff actually needs to do since members are largely self governing, I think I need to run for president of the planet.

However, as that is not likely to happen, I have been giving serious thought to buying an island, renaming it Multitool Island and setting up our own nation there.  I am currently looking at an island in Nova Scotia, and an even larger one in Chile.  The one in Chile is several times the size of the one in NS, and it would be nice to get away from winter, but is also a bit remote and more difficult for many of us to get to.

If I should manage to purchase one of these islands, I will plant an MTO flag on it, register as a religion so we can become tax exempt and invite all MTO members to the island, free to stay as long as you like. Once we establish ourselves, we can start pushing for independent nation status and become an actual haven for people who are sick and tired of the smurf that is going on in the rest of the world, and become a beacon for how people should act, and how governments should stick to major and communal issues (fire fighting services, national defense, policing, utilities etc) and not get involved in individuals' business and make it difficult for them to succeed.

But, as that breaks the MTO rule against both religion and politics, I can't go into too many details.

And yes, I read 1984, Fahrenheit 451, The Handmaid's Tale and other utopian novels.  I get the irony.  But, the world doesn't advance without taking risks and experimenting.

Whai is the difference between "pink and "salmon"

Ordinarily I would say that I wouldn't know the difference as I am a man, but as we recently determined, I don't have a beard and therefore I am not a man, so instead I will have to say that salmon is a shade of pink.

Def,

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would like to see MTO hosted from a high powered server in a little grass hut on a white sand beach, where I spend my days laying in the sun, with attractive women in coconut bras bringing me adult oriented beverages and/or steak whenever I wave my hand.

Seriously, I have had little to no plan for MTO when I started.  I tend to do most things by the seat of my pants.  I am not a good planner- or rather, the plans I do make often get abandoned when circumstances change.  I am pretty sure I was the basis for the underpants gnomes on South Park.

I know where I am, I know where I want to be, but not really sure about the in between stuff.  It often means I don't end up where I want to be, but it is usually a fun ride along the way.  Yeah, we could probably have made a few better decisions along the way, I could have a few less scars and a nicer car, but in the end MTO wouldn't be the same as it is now, and I'm pretty happy with what the place has built into.

This is also why I always insist that members have just as much to do with this place as I do- I had no real vision, nothing to seriously guide us in any direction- what this place has become is the result of the circumstances all of the members have created, and me making a snap decision based on my mood at certain times.  I am basically riding a wild horse- I have no control, but I'm still holding on!

How long will it be before dks starts a poll on what questions we should ask Def ?

I'm surprised it hasn't been done already... although now that you have mentioned it, he may not do it.  DKS tends to be fairly original in his nonsense, although he also liked to be antagonistic at times, and so he may start one just because I said he might not to spite me.

DKS is a fascinating member, and I think it is great how his contributions to this forum are often unnoticed because the silly things he posts kind of camoflage them.  In fact, he probably wouldn't want me drawing attention to him like this, but hey, it's already typed out and my delete key is sooooo hard to use....   :P

Seriously, why do we put up with you?

Maybe you should ask why we wouldn't put up with you?  You are hardly the most disturbed person here!  :P

Years ago a member named Hawkchucker (who has sadly since passed away) started a thread asking folks if they have ever been banned from a forum.  He had been banned from somewhere and in typical Hawkchucker fashion, thought it was the funniest thing ever.  One by one members came out of the woodwork listing the forums and sites they had been banned from and so we kind of got the reputation for being the forum for people that weren't allowed on other forums anymore.  Naturally we took this on as a badge of honor, because that's just the kind of thing we do here.  In fact, I think I am going to talk to Micah about creating a Banned Merit Badge for people that aren't welcome elsewhere.

So why do we put up with you?

Because you are just the right kind of smurfed up for this site, that's why!
