I’ve tried everything and I can’t seem to attach the image to the message.  Below is a link to the photo.  You can see the Rescue Tool on his belt.

Exactly not clear, it looks like 2 layer knife.
And Zito is very attractive character.

It certainly looks like a two layer knife, and I think I'm getting a flash of corkscrew, but that still isn't enough for positive identification. Also, I'm watching this on a standard definition DVD of a TV series from the 1980s, and no matter how often I shout "enhance" at my computer, the video's not getting any clearer.

It'd also be interesting to see which specific tools get the most use across both original and new series.
If I get time, I might go rewatch everything and compile a list.

What kind of knife did MacGyver use in "THE STRINGER"?

The knife is similar to Vintage Swiss Army Style Multi Tool Folding Pocket Survival Knife.

I want to know more details. ???

Yup... very long...
I was probably 10 or 11 when i got that one in a local drug/hardware store. Still remember one of those bit petrol pumps the man had in the counter, when petrol was sold by the gallon for petrol lamps  :D
He had a handful of those SAK knockouts at the store window.
The knife was/is really a piece of crap, in every tool. The blade and scissors grind is a joke.... but it was kind of "cool" for a 10 year old

An old fellow came by a place I happened to be in one Sunday morning.  I sort of knew who he was.  George somebody.  Sometimes he had a fixed address.  Sometimes maybe not.  He gave me a big smile and showed me a small bag full of knives.  Chinese one blade candy striped handle folders.  One SAK fake.  Said he wanted to sell them for a dollar each to go get some coffee.
I said I didn't need a knife, but I would buy him breakfast.  He said no I didn't have to do that.  Then he said for me to take one since he had known me for so long.  I took the  Star in Q number to keep from insulting him.
I looked up Star in Q on Ebay and some people are asking big prices for them.  Don't fall for that.  These things are cheap as they come.  Believe me, you won't want one.  I don't know what I did with the one I got from Old George.  Threw it in on some trade, I think.  Approximate value on these things.... about a dollar.  Not a bargain at that price.  Best wishes.  Gary

I want to know the reason why MacGyver used such a fake SAK used in "The Stringer". :iagree:
I want MacGyver to use a Victorinox Ranger model instead of Chinese knife.

I think in 5x04 Cease Fire he's actually using a Tinker Small and not a Tinker (if you look at the photos you took it seems that the top of the backsprings are shorter than on a Tinker (see attached photo of a regular Tinker beside a Sportsman — I don't have a Tinker Small). I.e. the size of the part that I've tried to indicate in red is similar to an 84 and not 91mm model.

Thank you thank you. But I forgot to say what an awesome job ReamerPunch did on this thread. I'm actually watching through the show for the first time in my life and I've had this thread open the entire time to see what model he uses. I'm on 5x6 now. It's a decent show. Not the greatest acting (and it seems that a lot of the guest stars are actually soap actors). But I really enjoyed season 4, even with its heavy-handed depiction of social justice issues — those were actually some of my favourite episodes, haha. And I also have to say that as campy as it was, I really liked 4x1, the one with Penny Parker's inherited house, haha.

Last trip to the post office I found a multi-tool.  I instantly recognicized it since I carried one for a whole month while doing the MacGyver challenge.  Of course it is the well know MacGyver tool.  This one is a rather large one in bright steel finish.  A beauty.  I thought about keeping it, but I might have to post it on the MTO trade forum for sale.  Or possibly trade.  I think I will check out some of the fleabay postings and recent sales prices, so I can get a better idea of its value.  I know it is bad form to just show a picture of this site and ask "What's it wuth?"  I hate it when that happens.  Enjoy the photo and let me know by PM if you have something you might like to wheel and deal with on a trade.  Best wishes.  G

Oof, Gary, I bet someone's missing their multitool real bad! I couldn't imagine leaving mine at the ufficio postale for someone to find! I wonder how much one of those babies costs these days — you looking to sell?

I have to be honest.  I found the thing while I was waiting for the lone worker to fetch my package from the back.  I was twirling it around and when the worker appeared, I forgot about having it in my hand.  I only found (what I assume is the same one?) on my dresser when I reached for my wallet and keys this morning.  It might be the same one, or maybe not.  These things can be very similar.  I think I should wait and see if anyone should post it in the lost and found first.  The more I think about it, the one I was playing with in the post office had a sort of pressed crosshatch pattern on it.  This one is smooth.
I better wait a while and see if someone claims it.  If I decide that I do have legal title to the thing, you can have first bid.  Best wishes.  G
