Day 11 B

GEC 93 & Schrade Walden 804 Whittler.

 :like: verah much !!!

comis got me thinking with one of his posts from a few days ago, prompting a question in turn.

I've never been good at remembering the names of the many patterns of traditional knives. Some, like 'Barlow' are easy to remember, but I frequently misuse them. Others, like 'Trapper' or 'Stockman' are easy to recall because they are patterns I've had for such a long time and used a good bit. Not that I always use those names correctly, either......

Now, to my question: in the picture below are two Jack knives (I think I got that right.....). The bottom knife is called a 'Bull Moose' (thanks for the reminder, comis.). What is the upper pattern called?  Just a 'Moose'?  Just a 'Bull'?

(Image removed from quote.)

Both are Sweet !!!! :dd:

Fuzzy I see Moose have been returned to the highlands. I apologize for being a bit harsh about a Moose being to much for you. Since the Moose has returned your more than entitled to carry a Moose pocket knife.    :tu:    A green one would look right good also.     :)

Sorry guys, working nights so I'm sleeping during the day.  Post a pic of your whittling masterpiece here no later than the cutoff date, next Wednesday.  I'll get with the other judges, Steve and Nix, and we'll come to a decision.  I'll post the results here on Thursday, and also PM the winner.

Day 11; most of the morning was spent doing yard work; most of the later part of the afternoon was spent playing Sims 4; not a game I actively play (I've played it 75 hours in 7 months), but I really enjoy it.

I've created a bunch of households; but usually just individuals; never a couple. The first couple months I played the game  I forgot to turn aging off (which I personally don't want in a game), so I pretty much had to clear out my early Sims and start over.  Lauren (left) was roughly based on a real person, only the individual she was based off of was a bit shorter than the 5'6 that is the default height (just under 5") and I wasn't exactly able to get her physical build just right, and I never learned how to use the height slider. Hobart was a slightly tweaked random sim.

Day 11:

This one is for you, Pomsie:

(Image removed from quote.)

Making a little 'Montana Sushi' for lunch: turkey and friggitello (pepperoncini) wrapped around hummus with za'atar. The Sodbuster's blade makes a good spreading tool.  :tu:

Little known fact: I make the best hummus in the world. While the Guinness book of world records has not officially recognized this accomplishment and wonder, a solid rumor (that I just started) has it that they are considering making a special award for my hummus.

Americans are crazy about iced tea. We drink it all year, but in the summer we must consume oceans of the stuff. Anybody else in the big wide world like iced tea?

Your sandwich looks great! Being in Israel we eat Hummus all day every day and with everything. There are entire lanes in supermarkets dedicated just to Hummus and there are Hummus bars in each town. Interestingly the best Hummus I ever ate was from a Kosher Deli in Manchester in the UK, owned by an Israeli but I've never had anything quite as good here. I can still taste it when I think about it! Unfortunately I've never gotten round to making my own which is frankly embarrassing. I really should get off my behind and make some one time.

I do use chickpeas a lot though. Today I'm making my Oriental Salt and Vinegar chickpeas to go with supper. My take on 'Englishman meets the Middle East'.  :D (salt, vinegar, cumin, garlic, olive oil, bake)

Oh and they drink a lot of iced tea here. Not my personal taste, I don't do tea (or coffee, don't worry the wife drinks enough for two).

Day 12. Today I've decided to be a traditional ninja. The big handle on this knife is actually very comfortable to hold. That's a decided point in its favour. I just wish the main blade was a drop longer.

Paring a GEC#44 with a barrel knife I got when I was visiting France, always loved the design and usage of the barrel knife.

So, the Buffalo Jack has an interesting hump toward the pommel-end of the handle. Is there a functional reason for that?  Does it allow better access to the nail nick?  Does it build up the handle for better use?

It's a fairly unique design. I guess I'm asking if it is an aesthetic choice or is driven by function. Anyone have an idea?

The pattern is typically called a "Gunstock"; because of its similarity to one. I do not know if it offers any advantage other than looks.
