Day 08:

Got out for a hike today. Wild weather. Temp in the 30's, so the trails were pure ice in some spots and sticky mud in others.  Naturally it was windy, cloudy, sunny, snowy, and dry.....all at the same time.

Feels like Spring.

(Image removed from quote.)

I went with spikes on my boots, trekking poles in my hand, and the Ranger in my pocket.

Great day for a hike!

Great day indeed  :like:

Day 9 - Repairing a drain pipe for hot tub/spa at work.  After cutting with hacksaw, used Slim Ranger to deburr edges in prep of applying adhesive.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 9. Opened a parcel.

I've begun to get into GI Joes, the first time since I was a kid. My original focus was just the first responders they did around this time period; namely the "Crash Rescue Firefighter" with Jaws of Life. I didn't even know GI Joe did a female other than the nurse (which never sold well, and is thus worth a huge sum today) from the 1960s. And it turns out, these special editions from 1998 cost about the same as they did in 1998. Not really that expensive--I paid $25 including the USPS Medium Flat Rate shipping.  Given, the head sculpt used is a little crude, but they did do a Vietnam nurse a couple of years later that has a much better looking sculpt. GI Joe has really only done, in the past decade or so, figures based on the movies. I find that a little disheartening. They used to do basically anything and everything, including modern and historical military units from multiple nations, historical figures, first responders (law enforcement, fire, and EMS/Rescue), and more. And this was just in the 2000s. I remember both my Walmart and Kaybee having aisles full. Now, Kaybee doesn't exist, and Walmar't's action figure aisle full of movie characters and video game franchises I don't even know what they are.  You'd think, with the various WWI and WWII films that have existed, you'd be seeing some figures based on those franchises. Steve Trevor, from Wonder Woman, in a vaguely accurate WWI uniform is about as close as we've got, in both 6" and 12".

I plan to probably leave this one on the box (really like the artwork as well--remember getting many figures they did this way), but really, really want to add a 1/6 Kabar (which, I am amazed at the amount of fixed blades, folders, and even MTs there are in 1/6 scale) to her ILBE belt. Seems there's not really a whole lot of equipment supplied, but keep in mind, this isn't a $200 1/6 figure. GI Joes were never intended, or ever were that, not counting the 12-inch Sideshow Toys Joes based on the Real American Heroes storyline 3 3/4 figures that have been done recently. Those suckers are $250. Yeah, I'm never affording that.

The prices are nuts on originals, complete with all gear and accessories. I got a replica Marine based on the old figures they did for the 40th? anniversary I think it was when I was a kid--I lost most of his smaller equipment, however. I do have an original Five Star Jeep I found--it needs extensive restoration work, but I think it will be a nice project. Trailer still exists as well. I had a much nicer, accurate GI Joe Willys MB growing up. My Dad got it for me for Christmas, and I lost and broke a lot of stuff on it. They are $125 or more now, despite only being about 15 years old. Back when we were leasing the 30 acres that adjoin us, I was up in the attic of the farmhosue with the owner, and asked about a small box of GI Joes (all the Gen 1 figures) that were missing accessories. Simply put--I didn't get them. They were the owner's son, who is to say it simply, a bit greedy. I can see why he wanted to keep them, despite him caring zip about them sentimentally.

Nice collection there! Most of mine are in an outbuilding I havent' been in in quite some time. I need to take stock, replace accessories and gear that are missing. In terms of action figures I had growing up, it was the roughly 6" Rescue Heroes, followed by 12" GI Joe, then the Lanard The Corps! figures (which were basically cheap GI Joe knockoffs, but they had a rather nice Humvee), Power Rangers as wel,l as 3 3/4 GI Joe (I only had a couple) and various other figures, like the 12" Lanard and World Peacekeepers and a ton of cheap store-branded stuff.
