If you don't get the joke in the subject line then I guess that makes me feel old, but then, as today is my 45th birthday, I'm not exactly feeling young either!

Every year for my birthday I usually get everyone to do something and I give something away.  In the past we have had roasts, which admittedly were hilarious, but did favor the Native English speakers, and so as much fun as it was, it wasn't really fair.  We've also gotten folks to post pictures of their EDC, which was great, but also not necessarily fair to those that find picture posting a bit awkward, so this year I have come up with something that I think levels the playing field completely, and, while I believe it is it's own reward, I am still going to offer a prize for doing it.  :D

Specifically, this prize:



This is a brand new, in the box, with un-filled in warranty card, never worn, J.A. McCabe Heritage 42 watch.  You can read all about it and see some good photos HERE.  Otherwise, you will have to deal with my hastily taken photos for drooling. 





You can see that it still even has the scratch resistant plastic over the watch and buckle.  This is as new as a watch can get, short of stealing it off the assembly desk!  Which you may have to, because the price they are asking for these is no small potatoes....   :ahhh



So, how do you get in the running for this beautiful doodad?  Simple- do something nice for someone and tell us about it.  That's it.  I don't care what it is, just do something nice for someone, even if it is just letting them know that they matter.  It improves your life, it will improve their lives, and knowing that everyone's life is just a little brighter today.

Hold the door for someone, give them directions, toss a penny in the tray at the local shop- who knows where the ripples of that penny will end up?  It could work out to a life changing moment, or it could just take a little edge off the stress someone else is feeling, and, more importantly, it could win you an absolutely beautiful new watch.

Not enough huh?

My workout buddy Ty has been faithfully showing up at the gym...even on days I can tell he does not feel like being there. He has worked hard, and has really boosted my workouts and general moral. He has been a great friend for many years. When I went through a divorce that was very tough on me, we had just become friends. Rather that just using words and patting me one the back, he decided to SHOW me that life goes on. He put together a divorce party for me and it was without a doubt one of the greatest parties I have ever attended. He even had a live band play! He introduced me to a slew of new friends and let his actions speak volumes about the kind of friend he is. To this day, I swear I would have stayed an emotional wreck had it not been for him.

He was eyeballing my gun collection and told me that he needs to save up and buy a handgun. He and I have gone to the range a few times and he loves shooting my pistols. He and I went to a gun shop and he was drooling over a two tone Taurus G2C 9mm.

Well, the knives I was able to sell here on the board made it possible for me to present him with this tomorrow night after we work out. I am not sure if this is really any act of kindness since he had done so much for me as a friend over the years. More like a small gesture to show him how much I appreciate him as a brother!



I will get a picture of him with the gun after I give it to him and post it. I cannot wait to see his face!

Wishing you a Very Happy Birthday Boss. 

I'll play along.  I moved into a neighborhood with people that actually like to talk among themselves.  Its great and I enjoy the conversations.  I posted about me meeting a new guy across the street and talking knives which you can read about here https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,82962.msg2025657.html#msg2025657. 

Turns out he is going thru a divorce.  I was mowing my lawn when he pulled up and I waved.  He came over and as he began to talk I could tell something was on his mind.  As he vented about his divorce I could tell he was beginning to relax a bit.  I offered a bit of advice but mostly just listened.  After a while he said he was sorry to have taken me from my lawn mowing.  I told him it was quite alright as he continued to vent.  I'm always happy to listen an when asked offer any advice.  He's a young man and I could tell he was struggling.  Divorce is a rough thing for everyone.

To push the stake a bit more.  My immediate neighbor whom I share a fence with is an elder widow.  Her husband was a veteran whom she lost sooner than she was really ready for.  The home I bought was lived in by only one person since it was built so she has always had the same next door neighbor.  When we got here the was a lot of commotion and we could tell she was a little nervous as to who her new neighbors would be.  I immediately went over to meet her and talk to her.  We've become pretty good neighbors and talk every time I see her.  She recently had her home inspected for termites and was told there were some things she needed to do.  Her gutters are also leaking and her tree needed trimming since we are in our Santa Ana wind month. 

When I saw her the other day she told me all that needed doing so I got my saw and helped her with her tree.  I told her I just replace my soffit vents and had left over material and would take care of hers.  I will also fix her leaking gutters as well since we did have a pretty rainy season last year.  This way she can get a little more life from them.  She's an independent woman but I could tell she was pleased as I didn't just tell her I was going to do these things.  I let her know I was happy to do so and it was my privilege both for her and her veteran husband.  She's elder and on a fixed income but theres no way I would push help on her.  We all have our pride and I wanted to make sure hers was not infringed upon.

First off happy birthday!
Can’t really do much being stuck in the house all day, but when the Mrs was leaving for work our backdoor neighbor (a 88yr old retired vet) pulled in, I asked him if everything was ok and how he was doing, he said a few things of his medical, but all else ok, and he’s getting the hang of his new car, (I think this is #42!) so I said that’s good, and like I said before if you need help with anything either call of knock,,

This summer the Mrs and I cleaned his gutters, and changed two lightbulbs on his garage for him, something simple but she’s gotta spot me with my medical, but weekly I bring his trashcan in after they come around, nothing big,

I could go over and talk all day, funny thing is it’s a 50/50, because 50% of what he’s going to say is going to be new and the other 50% he’s already told you at least once or twice, lol.. great guy,

About that good deed: I just went outside to my terrace for a smoke.
How is that a good deed you may ask?
Well, the real reason I went outside relates to the full English breakfast I had this morning, including baked beans, and the fact I was sitting in the sofa next to the missus.
So, even with the missus having no idea of the dire situation, a truly good deed was done by me, simply by going outside for a few minutes.

Yesterday an elderly neighbor called me because her free Norton anti virus that comes with Comcast internet stopped working. I went over and uninstalled it as a hate Norton and downloaded Avast for her.  Her computer is running a bit smoother now without Norton.   :tu:

Here's a little deed,

While browsing through the MTO Facebook page, I read this post here I thought I could find a home for some MTs and stuff I no longer use and could make this person's day!

I posted a message asking for the his address. He replied and as few days past I sorted out some goodies. But health issues and other things came along, as weeks turned into months I contacted the him to say I'd not forgotten, he was very polite and respectful.

I eventually shipped out the goodies, taking just over two weeks from northern Ireland to Indonesia. Through customs and finally received by one happy fella   :mail:



There's even a multitool.org sticker included  :tu:

I did it!

So, I went outside this evening since I noticed a bright object in the park behind my house for a few days.

Turned out it was a bright neon handball and a basketball

I noticed someone was out in the backyard of the closest home to it and asked if the balls were theirs.

Turned out they were. Usually when their grandkids play in the back yard with those balls, youngsters in the park prevent them from getting them back after they went over the fence. They usually take them away too... :/

So the grandparents were glad I noticed them and brought them back before any other kids decided to confiscate the balls, yet again.

I've just been reading back through the other posts.

I've always been a watch nut, with over 40 in my possession. But even though it's a lovely one being offered, I wish to be withdrawn from the GAW.
The other stories top mine by far, and entering the GAW would decease the odds for people who deserve it much more than me.

You have one of your pictures in the 2020 calendar or in top three of the calendar poll in any month of the given year. Participate  in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a LM Pocket Survival Tool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the LM Crunch  Multitool for fifteen (15) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the keychain for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for thirty (30) consecutive days. You have one of your pictures in the 2019 calendar or in top three of the calendar poll in any month of the given year.

Happy Birthday Grant. :hatsoff:

Recently, I gave away 2 watches from my collection after observing one of my students lovingly wear a $4 dollar Dollarama watch that he was particularly proud of owning. I know as I have the same watch. You should have seen his face light up when I gifted two of my Casio watches to him. I knew he was a Syrian Refugee and was in country for just shy of a year, and the family escaped with little in the way of belongings. All of that combined with my sense in fostering a teenager into wearing a descent watch, gave me the impetus to gift him a pair of mine. When you have so much, it is hard to not give someone with the same interest, a small nudge.  :salute:
