Day 16: Seen a lot of interesting traditional folders, SAKs, fixed blades and MTs the last two weeks.  Not sure I've seen any utility knives.

Top to bottom:

Stanley non-retractable utility knife
Sears retractable utility knife
Box cutter from my grocery job in the late 80s
Utility knife in the wallpaper knife design
Wallpaper knife
Scraper (ok not technically a knife, but those heavy duty single edge razor blades are sharp)

Nice assortment of utility knives

Fuzz on Show Day 16

It's just a little knife and not particularly well made, but it's one of my most treasured possessions. Brought back from Hungary, it was gifted to me by a friend I had a thing with years and years ago who was the most mental free-spirited genuinely interesting person I've ever met. She looked like a young Mia Farrow, travelled the world (alone!) before she was even twenty and was as mad as a box of hammers. She was brilliant.

(Image removed from quote.)

Nice knife and the gifter sounds interesting to

Day 16

Old Cutler Barlow and a RAP Cutler Stockman. Made by Robert Anthony Paolantonio of the old Colonial Knife Co. He was a third generation cutler.

That a nice pair there

Day 16
'91 Vic. SwissChamp helped me through a long office day  :P

For useful task there.

Day 16
Getting a well earned day off tomorrow, so I'm enjoying the rest of this evening and my Leatherman Rebar volunteered to help.   Tomorrow I hope the weather holds for some fly fishing and some dual sport riding.
Congrats on the day off, hopefully the weather holds for a great day.

Awesome day 16 and challenge so far everyone.  :hatsoff:

Day 17.
These two knives ( the red handled one in particular) represent my beginning in knives. I was given one like it when I was quite young. I ran around pretending I was every character on tv or movie that wore a knife. Not a very auspicious beginning I know, but they represent a fun time.
Nice knives and great story.   I think we all have some not so auspicious stories related to be young with a knife.

Day 16: Camillus USA #327 Dura-Tool Journeyman; produced 1996-2001. It is basically the #1770 (stainless steel electrician), but with steel handles and liner lock.  It is slim and much lighter than the #27 and #1770, but in use, it's a bit more uncomfortable.

The electrician came today, and put in a new outlet. Later on, a lot of rewiring has to be done; with a larger breaker box added (as some places in the house, one appliance is on one breaker, but in others multiple rooms with large appliances). We've got aluminum wiring, fabric-insulated wiring, and I'm sure asbestos-insulated wiring. What's in the house is a hodge-podge of wiring acceptable between 1954 (when the house was built) to present day. But, the fabric insulated wiring is a good chunk of it. It's in my room even.

Day 16:

With the threat from the Wildfires abated, I took my bug-out bag back down to the basement. I thought for today's challenge post I'd use a picture of the knives in the Bug-out bag. Solid choices, I feel, but I'd love to hear some criticism or feedback. What knives, saws, or axes are in your Bug-out Bag (if you have one)?

(Image removed from quote.)
NWA fixed blade, Victorinox Fieldmaster, Leatherman Charge AL

Nice useful combo.

For knives, my bag has a Farmer X mod, Spyderco Para 2 and Bark River Essential.  I also have a Breacher Bar that isn’t really a knife because the edge isn’t sharpened, but for an urban environment it does have its use.  I have considered sharpening the edge but not sure about it.

Day 16

Gadsden Compact.  The Compact was my favorite SAK for several years.  I am also very fond of the Gadsden, so this was my EDC for the longest time, until I discovered and got my hands on a Yeoman.

Day16
Yes I was bieng hard on myself last night. Because my day/night are flipped I normaly use midnight as a hard marker for challenges...missing it just frustrated me.

Todays knife

RCF combat in a drop point hunter pattern and my trusty Casio MRW200

This is the knife I toss on my belt when I want to fixed blade in town on my days off. At 1/4in thick D2 with a hollow grind it cuts well for what it is but not as well as an actual hunter or bushcrafter. The grip is comfotable with that smooth micarta. That messed up looking sheath was my 1st time making kydex years ago and I've never updated it.

The watch?
Cheap
I've gone trash
I've gone expensive
I love the MRW200 series...
At around 15-22$ they are cheap, but with a solid mechanism, rotating bezel, day/date and 100m/10bar water rating in Casio's clasic resin they are solid.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Day 17
My first and only foray into these new fangled flipper thingies the young people use  :D.
The Gerber evo,  which is a blatant rip off of the CRKT m16 range. Not a big fan of the tanto tip as I don't have a lot of call to stab things and the flipper thing is good for fidgeting,  but didn't change my world like I thought it might. It does carry well and discreetly in pocket though, and combo edges are handy at times. The handle is comfy for my Carney  hands also.
A nice enough knife,  but not the one for me .

Great idea. I have a couple of folding saws. I think one was in the Bug-out Bag at one point, but weight, space, and anticipated need resulted in the saw being taken out.

As it is, I have to question the inclusion of the fixie.....  :dunno:

(Oh, I think it is O-1 tool steel.)
Let's just say you can't go wrong with a fixie and keep that in there :pok:

Day 17: Another small multi. From Solingen, with advertising scales for a portuguese fertilizer company. This one's a nail breaker, specially if you try to open one tool with the other at 90º.

Judging from the design and the company it refers to, this little one may be about half a century old or even more!

Marfione/Strider Custom MSG-3, not too sure how 'custom' is this knife but I suspect it is a mid-tech.  I got this while visiting PVG at Vegas last year, love the integral design and the multi-grind.  Also the flipping action is very authoritative with a generous choil which I do like.

I had a small Stanley bar in my bag at one point. Not sure why it got removed....possibly for weight savings. Multiple good uses for one of those.

Powernoodle Day 17

Since there have been a couple of lads showing their utility knives, I thought I would throw in this Workpro.  I carry it every day in addition to my other toys.  With a replaceable and long-lasting carbide blade, its great for breaking down cardboard boxes etc. while saving the edge on my primary folder and SAK.

Workpro utility knife, TNP Lightning OTF knife, Olight S2R Baton II in Powernoodle Green, Walter PPS M2 with factory 8-round mag, Victorinox Explorer Plus, Victorinox Manager, Fenix E05, Mr. Green nail clipper in pouch and mini Shapie.

:like: Definitely has strong resemblance to M16.  I do have the CRKT m16 from long ago, and though it a pretty cool knife but when compared to flippers in recent years, they have definitely improved leaps and bounds since then.

Good one!

Why the multi-grind? What do you cut with such a blade?

Since I am not the maker, I would not know their exact reasons, but my guesses are

1) because they can, as a show of craftsmanship

2) This configuration has been seen from various multi-grind blade, and usually the thinner grind closer to handle for finer work liking making curls or keeping it more efficient in slicing/cutting, while the thicker tip for light prying or twisting.  I have even seen people modding their machete in this configuration to utilize different part of blade for different task.

Here is good video about Machete modding

This picture, gotten from everydaycommentary, depicts the TM Hunt M18, is big chopper with multi grind.
