Very nice Jack, and a great read  :tu:
I seem to prefer classic to modern designs.
Surely, OHO, pocket clips etc. add to the usability, which can be quite important if used frequently on a job etc.

Hey, but what do I know? I didn't even handle a 112 or 110 yet  :dunno:

While I had this out for my paracord badge photo I thought I would add it here as there isn’t one in the thread.

Buck Hartsook neck knife #860. S30v steel. Paracord is my addition and gives a little added grip to the small stature of this little gem and an adjustable neck lanyard

No, but I believe you can still get the Smidgen which is the same design but lesser steel.

The small one doesn't really make sense for you, given UK knife laws. It makes a nice little EDC, but I think the large makes more sense for someone who like camping & fishing.  :tu:

It’s nice and slim as a whole package and I don’t feel it around my neck. Nice little knife to have handy while fishing to cut line. It seems tiny but it punches above its weight.

I think I might have to consider one of these and add it to my ever growing want list

David that's a really nice two line inverted 110.They are becoming very rare and when they do come on the market the price is usually north of $150.00.

Nix good-on-ya for buying the current BOTM knife.Nice write up as well.

Tinner nice Hartsook.

These are a couple of reproductions of the original Buck 110 introduced in 1963.The original was much smaller,in all dimensions, than the current 110's.The machinery that produced these original knives were destroyed many years ago,so they were all made and assembled by hand. Buck produced a limited number of these,500 to be exact and named it the Federal.

Fast forward a few years and while viewing the Buck website I discovered what I believed to be was another version of the Federal. It had the blade with the Buck insignia stamped just below and parallel to the spine.I immediately called Buck and talked to a customer service rep and asked if this was Federal with different scales. Her reply was that she didn't know.I then talked to tech advisor and he responded in the same way.So I took a chance and ordered one. When it arrived,it was as I suspected,a Federal with maroon Paperstone scales.

The top photo is a Federal and the second iteration with Paperstone scales.Second photo are the blades.

The 3RD and 4TH photo show the difference in size between the Federals and a second generation 110,known as a 2 dot.

I carried this daily a few years ago. When my riding buddies would ask what I was carrying today,I would tell them a Buck and simultaneously hand it to them. The look on their faces when they handled it was hilarious.

I feel I would be remiss if I didn't post in this thread how impressed I've been with this dealer exclusive Buck Squire.

It's small enough to be considered sheeple-friendly (at least in my area), where as something like a 110 might raise some eyebrows in an office environment or similar.  But, it's big enough to do some fairly serious work if needed.

Fit and finish are excellent.  The S35VN blade holds a great edge, even in tough applications like cutting cardboard.

With the S35VN steel, micarta handle slabs, and nickel silver pins and bolsters, I expect this knife will easily outlast me.

I'm a big fan of the Squire!  It was my EDC for years. Small enough to be 'civilized', and big enough to do some good work.   :tu:

If I could only own two Buck models, they would be the 110 and the 501.  :tu:
