I'm a big fan of the Squire!  It was my EDC for years. Small enough to be 'civilized', and big enough to do some good work.   :tu:

One from the 70s, finger groove from early 80s...the older one, I actually carried on my belt to school...the grooved handled one went to Tyson’s Corner, outside DC, for a survival seminar with the late Mel Tappin...

My 301 Stockman finally arrived, only eight days late.  (Thanks USPS!  But, better late than never!)

Overall, I'm pleased with it so far.  Fit and finish are fairly good; there is some very minor blade rub, but nothing serious for a user.  I wasn't familiar with Valox, but reading about it, it seems like a good material for knife scales, and the textured handles are comfortable and provide a good grip.  Blades were sharp out of the box.  I appreciate the nickel silver pins and bolsters.  I would prefer the ends of the knife to be more rounded, as I feel knives with rounded bolsters carry more comfortably in the pocket.

My first thought, though, as I turned the 301 over in my hand, was none of those things.  Rather, it was "Wow, there is a lot of wasted space in this knife!"  Upon closer inspection, it became obvious why.  Most of the stockmans (stockmen?) I own have the two smaller blades "nested" together, often sharing the same back spring.  The 301 has three separate, equal width back springs, one for each blade; and all three blades are parallel to the handle and to one another.  Given this arrangement, Buck is missing the opportunity to give us three full-length blades in the same size package as the 301.  Sure, it wouldn't be a classic stockman pattern, but three 2.75" blades would be an awesome amount of cutting capability in a knife that is 3 7/8" long and would probably weigh just a bit over three ounces.  Now I just have to convince Buck to make it, preferably in S30V and G10...

Nice Stockman's   :like:

If you want a slimmer 301 look for an older Camillus made one, it has two springs and also it will have flat ground blades.

Thanks Steve.

I don't want a slimmer 301 though; I want a 301 with three 2.75" S30V blades, G10 handle scales, and fully rounded bolsters.   :gimme:

And some frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.   :D

How about a Buck 106 Ax and a 124 Frontiersman.

Very nice indeed.

I've coveted a Frontiersman for a while, but can't bring myself to drop the coin on one.  I know the handle is micarta instead of phenolic, but the steel is still 420HC, and I can't understand why the 124 is three times the cost of a 119 and nearly twice the cost of the 120.

Speaking of the 119 and 120, did anyone else see that Buck is coming out with Pro versions of the 119, 103, 105, 120, & 102 that will have S35VN blades and green canvas micarta handles?

That is good info, thank you!

If the discounts are that significant, I'm thinking a $150 lifetime membership in the Buck Collectors Club might easily pay for itself.
