Day 4
There's some benefit for working from home, I literally have all the time to do whatever I want so as long I am not too far from my computer.   Much of the day was spent on hand sanding down the bottom of my newly acquired cast iron skillet, light coating it with oil and seasoning it in oven.  I am really looking forward to using this once all the seasoning is done.(Plan to have 6-8 very thin layers baked).

I don't know why it would be but when you have pancakes/drop scones made in those they taste so much better, i really miss mine  :like:

Nice, love the large 111s, though I don't own one.

:iagree: It's crazy how useful the small blade is in real life.  For me, its absence is a major flaw of both the Compact as well as the 111 mm models.

I find it so interesting to see how people have such different needs/uses/ideas. I’ve personally always wondered why there are 2 of the same tool and not something more useful in place of a second knife!  And don’t get me started on the Phillips instead of a corkscrew! But I know for some it’s completely the other way around

Day 4. I did toy with the idea of using the saw to cut up some potatoes but that would just be silly wouldn't it so in the end the belt cutter got the job. I should probably have peeled them with it but hindsights a wonderful thing

The Work champ is calling out to me....I love that beast of a knife.  For those who have it and a Hercules, do you have a preference?

Thanks Barry!

I’m interested to hear responses to Barry’s question, too! I’ve almost pulled the trigger on a Hercules a couple of times, but then thought maybe I’d rather have a work champ?

I agree with you, Ron. I think this challenge is being run with standard 111mm 30-day challenge rules.

The convention is to use your challenge tool as much as possible. If another tool is required....say scissors....specify in your daily post that your challenge tool fell short and an alternative tool was used. And post of a photo of the deficient 111mm for that day.....and every day....

I think this concept is fun in so far as it gives us awl a chance to assess whether or not a tool might have shortcomings that may be relevant to us as well. If I need scissors for some task but don't have them on a Trekker.....it might be good for other participants to be aware that the lack of scissors is a potential weakness in the Trekker's armamentarium.

However, this concept could be taken too far: typically we don't mention the fact that we used a toothbrush to clean our teeth because our Ti scaled Trekker doesn't have a toothpick. You guys are still brushing and flossing during the challenge.....aren't you?!  :dwts:

There is no need to specify that you used a fork at dinner. We assume that you are resorting to the appropriate tableware to eat your meals. Of course, in Fuzzbucket's case, we assume he's just using his bowl and hands. So, if he were to use a fork or chopsticks or spoon, we'd like to hear about that novelty.  :tu:

Play on!   :tu:

You're the boss.  Although in fairness my point wasn't that you need to specify using a fork or a toothbrush every day, or that using a tool for some tasks is prohibited.

It was about the Challenge tool being combined with other tools.  In a 111mm Challenge, if I need to EDC a Classic because I must use scissors every day.... Or alternatively, if we were doing the Minimalist Challenge, and I need to carry a Swisschamp every day because I need the magnifying lens every day.

In the 111mm Challenge I would get an Outrider, otherwise use a dedicated scissor.  In the Minimalist Challenge, I'd get an Engineer, otherwise carry a pocket lens.  I wouldn't EDC two SAKs during a challenge unless we were doing the "SAK got your 6" Challenge, wherein we carry any tool plus a SAK, and we report on whether it was our primary MT/SAK or the backup SAK that saved the day.

It's really a matter of just how much you use the non-Challenge tool and if you carry it on your person.

But either way - You're the host with the most!  Those are just my thoughts about a challenge.  But I'm also the fool that is doing this challenge which is potentially illegal in my jurisdiction and got a pair of scissors for my desk at work.

 :hatsoff:   :hatsoff:

Day 4

On the topic of things I don't do like a normal person... This is how I like to cut an apple with a pocketknife.  I like to slice bite-sized "chips" off of the apple off the outside.  This method works with a knife of any size.

Nice work and pics, everyone! It’s hard to keep up with these entries! I too remember those breakfast pizzas at T1 LHR, though I never tried one.... I did have an egg and pancetta one in Rome once which was better than I thought it would be!

I'm just trying to follow standard challenge rules!  :ahhh

But....do the challenge in the way it suits you the most.  Like you, I just carry the one tool, and only the one tool, every day. Anything else....I'll need to improvise.   :D
