This is definitely one that I know a lot of people have been waiting for!  I don't think the tabs look like they're going to be massively in the way.

First impression

Just unpacked them. Getting it out of the sheath was very difficult.
The tabs are not sharp, but they stand very proud, so there is a good chance they generate some nasty pressure points in the pockets. Also, not a fan of the blade-grind. That said, they work very well.

Will carry it for a while, but I'm almost certain that the benefit (OHO) does not outweigh the drawbacks (blade-grind, hot-spots).

Not fitting the sheath well.
The last one shows the deformation of the sheath without the tool inside!

you'd think they would have done a cut out or redesign to accommodate the different shape?  :dunno:

The OD Green "rubberized Cordura" sheath would've been perfect, but they go with the stiff regular sheath. It makes no sense to me. That's an off-the-shelf-solution to the tightness, as the OD green sheath has more "give", is capable of horizontal/vertical belt carry, MOLLE, and whatever else you need to strap it to.

I prefer the sheath they picked, it feels way more sturdy as the green MOLLE sheath, and judging from the pics I think it will change shape a bit after a while and handle the OHO thingy's without any problem.

The Lock on my Victorinox S54 also pokes in the side of the sheath I got for it (same material as the one above), and after a while it fits much better.

I mean, it could be worse... My Leatherman OHT with the small Leatherman MOLLE sheath comes to mind...

I think they use that sheath for the black oxide version.

Yes, the BO version uses the OD green sheath.

Agree.  Mine arrived today.

(The black is consistent, the difference in the pic is just shadows

Being left-handed, I was curious to see how the tabs worked for LH OHO.  The serrated belt cutter opens with the thumb easily in the LH.  To open the PE blade LH, I need to use my finger reaching around the Spirit to start opening and then adjust grip to finish opening, similar to LH opening of both blades on Wave.

Mine probably won’t spend much time in the case, because it will more often be in my organizer which it fits nicely.

Something else I find strange besides the blade grind, which I can fix is the fact they shortened the main blade by a few millimeters (2.5”/6.2 cm) compared to the S, RT, or XBS (2.7”/6.8 cm).

It must be a new blade blank that they stamp for the stud, so probably this has resulted in a small difference on the blade length.

The tabs presumably make it easier to find the main blade... on the normal Spirit I usually pull at the metal file and the saw before eventually finding the blade I'm looking for... all that symmetry is too much for a simpleton like me.

Probably because when using the thumb stud you're now pressing the blade to the middle of the tool a bit when opening. That could cause the blade tip to get caught onto the "pliers spring".

This would be ideal for the Dutch army, combing the functions of their DAK (OHO blade and belt cutter) with the issue Spirit’s tools.
Could also be useful for the Swiss Army but with the saw blade reinstated.

I can the need for the rescue cutter on a military tool, but I'm baffled by the lack of a saw.  One would think that a saw would be of much more use to the average soldier than a file.  If these become available in the US, I would certainly pick one up and just carry an 84mm walker with it then I'd have all my bases covered with a pretty light weight, compact package.

Nice video!  :tu:

Gosh, I really want one of these in BO. Ideally with a saw instead of the scissors, that would be near perfection.

The Victorinox design team: "We are going to design the perfect Spirit, people have been asking for one handed opening for a long time. Ooh, I know, let's not put in a saw, we'll use these tiny scissors that don't open very far. That will keep the fans nicely riled up".  :ahhh  :twak:

I really don't dislike the Spirit scissors that much, it's just that I would prefer a saw in this particular tool.

I didn't even take 2 days with my new Spirit XBS until I had to widen up the scissors opening...  ::)
I just couldn't tolerate it.
