Leatherman Wingman Half handle mod
on: November 30, 2020, 05:37:11 PM
Inspired by one of the mod I have seen recently.. This time round, I had a Wingman frame and blade, other parts I took apart a Rev.. RIP...

The micarta scale was originally 6mm thick and I was quite hesitant to thin it down, I couldn't get other stocks around here.. Its was relatively easily to sand down but dust where everywhere.......

There are quite a few half tools mods around so I tried to work on thing a little differently.. I find the Wingman/sidekick's half handle are easier to deploy than a half wave. And, the pocket clip are already on the correct handle.

My take on a half Wingman.

Micarta scale with a steel liner beneath. Courtesy of Rev.

It wouldn't be me if I have left the blade alone. Shortened as usual... Most likely to be replace with the Rev blade once the partial SE blade irritate me enough..

"Outside" tools. I manage to squeeze in a smaller screwdriver that doesn't come stock, slip joint. House in the same tool bay as the knife layer.

What it's packing.

Getting them to point in the correct direction...

Everyone's favourite scissor.

Again, tool load may change as I think I can squeeze in one more tool on the "plier's" pivot.  :multi:

 :iagree: :o

Love the Micarta handles :dd: I agree that the Wave is a bit to thin and that is why I went with the Charge handle for mine :salute: I may end up with an extra handle after breaking apart a Wingman and a Sidekick later on  I would love to have something that turned out looking like that

Love the old school scissors as well :dd: Sweet modding as always, Sam :tu: :like:

Did you put micarta on the side with the clip or just the one side  either way it sure has a nice look to it

EDIT Nevermind, I see now that it is just the clip :tu:

Only on the knife side. Originally wanted to just use it without the liner but realised the knife edge will be exposed. Thats where the Rev frame came into play. I used one part of the frame that have a spring tab and not  the outer layer so I can sneak in the small screw driver. Alot more work to fit but I think its worth it. The clip side wasn't planned for.. It looks clean so I decided to leave it as is. It would make it alot thicker too..

Cool mod !    :like:

Actually i might want to do that at some point of time. That will help to iron out some things. I think I may be addicted to scales now. Just did an order again for the 6mm micarta...... And I still have balance..

So I put in scales on both side  :D .Absolutely love it. Handles easier too. Replaced the pocket clip for the dangler. I still prefer deep carries. Changed out the partial serrations. Looks cool but getting on my nerves and too short to be useful.

Also doing some minor change to tool load. Not completed yet thats why there are 2 philips in there. So I manage to squeeze in on more on the "pliers" side.

This should be the final! Reprofiled the blade slightly, changed some tools.

Tools are pretty nicely stacked I think.

Fitted 3 tools on the " pliers" end.  :D Thinned down the edge of the large flathead as it does not fit anything that I have and tool thick to work for prying...

Fashioned a marline spike from a damaged philips.

This should complete this mod.

Yeah, if they're gonna sell single handle tools, this is the way.

This is a keeper. You can send your address to Fuzzy. I am sure he have some fun pack ready to send out.  :pok: It's fun!

Yes some of the parts did come in handy. I am quite fond of Rev actually, Basic but functional. After doing something to the gorilla wide handle splay...

Yeah, if they're gonna sell single handle tools, this is the way.

 Basically, this quite similar to a T2/T4 or Sak.. I just added scales to a rather simple mod. Not sure why, I had a pretty fun time doing this as compare to my other tinkerings ...

Final update.... Same function, just a different implementation. This should stay........

In went the rebar file. I always love a good file.

Put in a longer flathead. This should be more useful than the file/flathead set up. Changed out the OG scissor to a modern one. After a few use, I got reminded I didn't like the way the OG scissor's handle have a life of its own..

I still want that mod :ahhh It's even better now than it was before    :D

I too love a good file :dd: and the tool set is looking very awesome now, Sam :salute: :like: :like:
