Mail call this morning.  Got a nice surprise knife and decapitated a Cyberman.  :D

Day 16

Some great posts here gentlemen.

You did well on the Cyberman, Gareth. I'm surprised you got by unscathed.

As unloved as it probably is  :dunno:, I'm actually getting pretty good use out of the Wenger awl. It's been particularly useful where a Vic one would likely do more harm than good.
I've put it to good use dismantling small components (switches etc) and unseated o-rings without damage to the ring or its surrounds.
I've actually been fond of it for years, and recently had good use for it. That said, I really like Vic awls too, of both celidor and alox varieties. All quite similar, yet all very different and all certainly useful.

Awl love aside. Here's another food pic from lunch today.

Nice work, everyone - we’re half way through!

Day 16

Bumper post opening for the Wenger watch tool - just love that blue alox!

I love it too mate!  I love the old watch makers, I’ve got a quite a few. Most are vics, and I don’t normally carry them, but I think from your inspiration I’ll use one or two going forward!

Yea needed to make somekind beltloop to it so i wrapped paracord around the sheat and now i can carry it on my belt.
I really like Skrama cause its easy to handle and use on diffrent jobs. It so good that i rather use it more than my other blades, now i may mod my Rebar back to bladeless.

Day 16

Some beautiful Model 1908’s, probably the favourites in my SAK collection although I’m partial to the mod 51’s and 61’s too…let’s face it I’ve not actually come across a SAK I didn’t like :D

Very nice collection and variety from the early soldier models. :like:

One quick dumb question to all earlier soldier collectors: how do you differentiate between 'fibre' vs 'celluloid'?  From the shrinkage and green rust, I knew a few of them must be celluloid, but I just can't tell them apart just by look.  Any easy way to tell them apart?

Day 15: I mostly used it as a flashlight when putting a new battery in my truck in the garage (which is poorly lit). The bolts that secure the hold-down can be a pain to reattach. I had used a small Craftsman 4" adjustable wrench to remove the battery, as it was in my EDC pack. I had purchased a cheap mini ratchet/screwdriver at Advance Auto Parts to leave in my truck, and that's what was used to put it back in. Since my light was in the pack back at the car, I just used the Esquire.

I have largely stopped carrying more than a traditional knife, a lightweight one-hand open folder, and an SAK or small multitool on me; and moving most of the stuff to a cheap "Fuel" backpack I used when I started taking college classes when I was 13 (I homeschooled back then) and hadn't used in years. I'm getting a Jansport soon, hopefully.  Tactical packs are expensive, heavy, have too many straps, and their styling  draws unwanted attention.

Here's the kit I currently carry in my pack. It is carried in a mesh (wire screen) makeup bag in a shaving kit that serves as an organizer for my EDC backpack. The organizer contains contains most chargers, eyeglass cleaning stuff, a power bank, headphones, and some tools all compartmentalized in four makeup bags.  I made this organizer out of stuff from the cosmetics section at Dollar General as an impulse buy. It surprised me how well the makeup bags fit the shaving kit bag.

It surprises me what people are now asking for the little Craftsman 4" adjustable. Back when I wanted a small wrench that opened up to 9/16 for gate hinges, I paid $15 from Sears way back when these were still made by Western Forge, and Sears sold the full Craftsman Professional range online. Now people want $40 for the things.

I strongly recommend the Pocket Wrench II as an EDC tool. It's a compact wrench, 1/4 driver, and pry tool all in one light package. Mine is the early tool steel variant; and it took me longer to find that specific version; as I wanted that one only.

I do plan to add some 1/4 bits and the Victorinox ratchet. Currently, a cheap Screw Pop tool (which originally held a double-ended bit, lost sometime in my teens) and a Gerber with LM adapter are my drivers.

I store the Gerber MP400, Olight i5T, and Mercator on the outside pocket of the organizer by themselves as a "rapid access" set.

I too love and adore the Pocket wrench II, and only wish they come out a version in Ti.  That's one of the very few OPT that I would buy more than one. :tu:

i also the Sharpmaker for all my knives,it's pretty versatile. :D
while i hate the pull-through,some mofo's are just too caveman for anything else, and will butcher a knife regardless.it's a necessary evil  >:D
Another big fan here too!  Love the sharpmaker for it is, probably one of the best sharpening solution for cost/practice/result all considered.

Wenger Metal 50 today.  These brushed steel metal scales do tend to make the tool a lot heavier than it's plastic counterpart.

Me too. I ran out of homemade and had to use store bought. However,,, my wife and daughter are on an apple picking trip right now, so I should be able to make up a batch in the next few days. Good apple butter reminds me of time spent with my Grandmother.

Funny, my wife and daughter are doing the same right now, and my grandma had biscuits and apple butter available daily!

Yes! I loved my Grandma's apple butter, as well as about everything else she made/cooked. And I loved spending time with her when I wasn't eating her food.

This is no water dragon (refering to a photo Echo shared in a previous challenge), but here is one of the two varieties of lizard (green anole) that I see around homes in my area:

I'd be rocking the same model, but the scissor screw loosens very easily. :-[

That's a bummer. So far I have had no complaints with this one.

Day 16

Another day at the football. Had to attempt to fix a lock, which was ultimately unsuccessful. Unfortunately the Commander wasn't enough for the situation, so as to be accompanied by the Swiss Champ. Took my own hammer and had to borrow a couple of other tools as well.

I got there early so I could try and do everything before people started coming in through the turnstiles...

Ooh, not had a Gregg's bacon butty in ages!  Surprisingly good if memory serves.   :tu:

They're ace. Considering what you pay for a butty and a brew they're excellent value. :tu:
