Awl good. But....what do you really carry?

Here it is: midnight, no moon.....your brother-in-law calls you and says he needs help right away. He lives 8 hours away, in a rural location in tornado country (why he needs the help). You need to leave in 15 minutes. Which SAK do you grab on the way out the door? (And did you remember your toothbrush? I don't think you want to borrow his......)

(Image removed from quote.)

Ok living in the uk this is gunna require a bit of imagination  but I’ll play

Definitely grabbing the huntsman for the extra tools.
Car has  a DofE with plus scales in glove box
I am obviously going to lock the door so I ll have my keys with a classic on me.
The mrs will likely be coming so that’s another classic on her keys

I have my toothbrush! The BiL (in fact all the in laws) live 200 miles away so we both have bags half packed to go. Useful lesson from the army

Although if I am being honest if I am being pushed for time I will be grabbing my aeropress coffee press first!!
I have a classic on my keys one on hers and a DofE in the car that will solve a hell of a lot of problems  problems..... however the in laws only drink instant coffee and there is no way I am dealing with the aftermath of southern England’s first tornado on instant coffee !!!

I have resisted this thread for a long time, because inherently I think there is a SAK probably for different scenario. :D

For camping and outdoor use, my favorite is 111mm OHO Trekker.

For urban, everyday carry, I am used to carry my 91mm Mountaineer most often.  But I could see myself carry an Explorer or a mod of Explorer with metal file.

For travel, probably a TSA auctioned SAK, something simple like a Tinker/Spartan/Huntsman, so if it get confiscated or I lost it, I won't feel too bad about it.

Love the  “half-packed bag”.  Great minds think alike (or is it military trained minds).  My lesson from Navy and California wild-fires, but has come in handy a few times.  The half packed bag contains an Espro travel coffee press and the emergency bag also has a Primula brew buddy.  Coffee is a necessity (another lesson learned in the military).

I’m in the same boat.

Even the thread title alludes to three separate knives. Favorite, most useful, most often carried.

For me, I could only have answered that with one knife when I was in the 1 to about 8 knife range. All downhill from there.

Favorite is still my original ‘84 Champion

Most useful to me is probably my ‘Troublemaker’ mod. Has what I use most.

Most often carried is almost impossible to determine without specifying the time period. Especially now in covid times...lots of knives in use. I’m often grabbing the user that is nearest to where I am, and sticking that in my pocket.

“Military trained minds” I like that !! I found it really helped this year with all the Covid changes meaning we were having to get over to the in-laws as and when we could. Made a big difference for getting to our niece’s birthday.
Couple of coffee suggestions there thank you and take a look at the aero press!!
I like the grab and go philosophy. It’s why I like trying to pack extra into my SAKs and getting extra kit into them

This is becoming more fun by the day.  I'm sensing a Choose Your Own Adventure (TM) Thread ... if we can think of a way to set it up.

I'm assuming that it's 8 hours by car.... the safer of the modes of transportation, given the included photograph....

I'm assuming that I'm not wearing any pants (because it's midnight), so I don't already have a Pioneer X on me.

I'm assuming the Gerber MP600 in my car doesn't count.

Given the scenario, I'm bringing my Swisschamp.  It has blades, a saw, drivers... and in this case, the metal saw may come in handy

The bag helps get going quicker while not forgetting something important.

I have an Aeropress that I like and use a lot at home.  The Espro is just nice because it integrates a french press and insulated travel bottle.

So far it's my Spartan, but I've won a Ranger on Ebay, and look forward to it arriving.

Four layers is as thick as I go and while I keep a Huntsman in my car console and a Fieldmaster next to my chair in the LR, o would choose my Farmer X. Don’t really need the corkscrew and rarely use the tweezers but I do like the thicker blade and tools.

My fave would probably be the pioneer x or the electrician whereas my fave custom knife i will make  myself consists of electrician with scissors and an inline philips. I plan to make this soon.

My most often carried, no doubt, is my Champion. I used and abused it for about 25 years. Then I decided to upgrade to a Swisschamp and got bitten by the SAK bug. I had been collecting knives for years but didn´t have many SAKs. That soon changed and I started carrying others, e.g. Executive and Fireman. I quickly learned to carry two or more SAKs at the same time. I wasn´t much into alox then because I don´t like the Soldier, and I didn´t know about the Farmer and others until I joined SOSAK. Now I have about 75 SAKs

My most useful and favorite carry atm is the 93mm alox Bushcrafter. (Mine is a mod, not a real one). With an Ambassador for scissors.

My best SAK? I think they´re all good and there is no best one.

I never warmed up to the Swisscard.

Nice idea....but....

1. Too many little pieces to fall out, get separated, and get lost. I'm sure for those of you who carry the card this doesn't happen and is just theoretical, but I like a self-contained and connected set of tools.

2.  Wallet is already too thick....I don't want to add more. And that means I have to 1) Have the wallet with me and 2) pull the wallet out, then pull the card out, then pull the tool out. If I want to quickly snip something, I like to be able to just pull the tool out of my pocket and use it.

3. You're cheating. That's a SAK and an auxiliary set of tools.  :pok:
I love the SwissCard Nailcare, there is pretty much no redundancy with the Spirit or the Soldier. Though I carry it in my backpack, not the wallet
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I like many, to only choose one is hard. I love the Soldier '61, the Cadet and the Alox Rambler but in the end it is between the Spirit and the Cybertool. Right now, I would say the Spirit, it simply has a great tool loadout. But I have a custom cybertool incoming, that might tip the scale in the other direction.

Reminds me of this thread.

https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,77112.0.html

I followed your link and reviewed several sets.  Then, despite knowing exactly what the thread was about, I got to one set and said "Hey, these two are just the same knife in different sizes!".  Yes David, yes they are...
My Mods: 58mm Workshop, 91mm Picnicker, CyberCompact
Some Fav's: long nail file models, vintage unusual stainless
Quirk: I like the metal file more than the wood saw
