I have a Boker that I plan to carry, but I came across this one the other day and am tempted to try it out.

Can I use a cheap SAK-like knock off gifted to me by someone special?

Or something. We may have to revisit the title.

(Image removed from quote.)

We've done so many individual SAK model challenges. Let's give the other guys a chance to shine and prove themselves. :pok:
There are tons of options out there. Surely you have one you really like. Well, this is your chance to carry it and show us how good it actually is.

So what would be eligible? I was thinking SAK-alikes, aka multi-layered, knife-based pocket tools. But then again, why not allow modern folding knives with other tools? So, as long as it is not pliers-based, and has at least two tools, it is probably good to go.

Actual SAKs could sit this one out, I think. We have tons of SAK challenges. Why not have a month of oddballs?
Based on personal experience, I can tell you that the Leatherman Free series will not win this challenge. The one-hand-opening knives are nice, but the other tools are both sparse and unnecessarily bulky, as are the hollow-interior handles, resulting in a tool that's the same size as a 85mm Wenger/Victorinox EvoGrip S557 with far less functionality. (yes, that's a very specific comparison, because I owned both tools at the same time.)

I think you just helped me make a decision.  I had been considering purchasing a Leatherman Free T4.  I am not a fan of the EvoGrip 85mm specifically due to the unnecessary bulk, so your comparison has me thinking the T4 may not be for me either.

SwissBuck???

I believe I already know the answer but figure I’d ask anyway.

Does a SwissBuck count or is it disqualified due to being part SAK?

For whatever it's worth the T4 is nowhere near as bulky as I expect it to be, either in hand or pocket. Not including the clip the thickness is noticeably less than my Explorer. There's been times I reached for hte T4 over a SAK just for the convenience of one handed scissors, but that's just me  :dunno:

That's a tough one. I'd love to see one in a challenge, but indeed, it is essentially a Wenger with different scales, so it is a SAK.

I'm looking forward to this challenge.  It should be easy as pie with my Hoffritz Partner.  It has the same loadout as a Vic Fieldmaster but it is made in Solingen Germany.

I'll be using my Ruike LD51-B. I like many things about it. I'd still prefer a claw can opener instead of that angled serrated blade with flathead tip, but it's got a solid toolset, and good build quality.

That's a beast of a tool, will be interesting to see how you get on with it I hate the exposed glassbreaker on my tech tool, to the point where I removed it on one of them.

I've had it for at least 40 years. The bottle opener / flatblade screwdriver is broken off at the base and the scissor spring is missing.  I think it uses the old style single spring so I might be able to find one before the challenge is over.  It has always been exceptionally sharp.  The scissors cut very well but are not easy to use without the spring.  I have another German made Gentleman's knife that is similar to a Vic Executive but without the citrus blade.  I might carry that as well. :D

If I recall correctly, we determined in a prior discussion over on the SAK forum that Swizas were NOT SAKs, correct?   As I'm going for a bigger model than the D04 I bought about a year after Swiza started making knives;  and my money's on the SH09TR. However, my problem is price. These are like $90. And I thought the Outrider's MSRP was a lot.

Those are some nice looking SAK-alikes you guys are bringing to the challenge. I am going to use a Free T2, a Gerber Armbar Drive, and maybe try out some smurf Coast products.
