Day 14: got some parts to redo a Queen #45S Serrated Big Chief. It was bought early on during the pandemic's height in 2020 during an online shopping bender, and was on a back burner due to the lack of parts. Had bought a beater early '60s #45, and it became a user, as despite a lot of blade wear, it was functionally solid.


I have a few problems with these parts, however. When the Daniels family purchased Queen from Servotronics, they had a problem with the BIg Chief after changing the heat treat on the backsprings. Maybe that's why the #45S broke (same seller had a bunch of unfixed warranty knives after the Queen closure, including a dozen or more of these over the course of a year). And could these leftover springs be faulty?

And I'm trying to figure out if they're even heat-treated or hardened.

While the knife is apart, I may swap for the #45D Diver blade; which is a semi-hawkbill type .





Bought three backsprings for spares, and three hawkbill blades for modding. I plan to have someone professionally sharpen them, as they're ground, but not sharpened/beveled.

The Big Chief was designed to be cheap to make and assemble. It has just three parts--pin, blade, frame. Only one pin to cut and put back in, which makes it a good starter project.

30 grams or 1 ounce of walnuts has 2.5 grams of Omega 3's, along with a myriad of beneficial phytochemicals.  They really are one of the best superfoods you can stick in your face   :drool:.

Been out today with the grandkids to an adventure park , lots of climbing for them and lots of walking for me. Got home and cooking chilli and used my 110 to slay the onions

I just got home from my last minute road trip and This is my picture that I couldn't post yesterday because I was 260 miles from my computer.  It's the Buck 110 in my hotel room with a Teddy Bear named Butterscotch.
