Day 25.

Really didn't need a fixed blade today (had the AG Russell Hunter Scalpel around my neck), but I readied the Fiskars Puukko for tomorrow's fence work. I think it's  roughly of 1970s-1980s vintage. For a company as old and big as Fiskars, I'm surprised to not see much history on their knives before Gerber.

I picked this one up on a whim for $20 back in August, and I have to admit, it is, probably, the best $20 I spent on a knife. Fairly light, well balanced, and the blade is just thick enough. The leather sheath has a dangler that keeps it from getting in the way (as typical with Puukkos), unlike Moras that hook on EVERYTHING. The sheath also has a plastic liner, eliminating accidental stab-through.

The one flaw the design has is sheath retention. Old Lefty mentions he found his just laying on the ground. I noticed mine fell out any time I tipped the sheath. I used a zip tie to hold it in better, and it seems to work. Passed my totally scientific method of "turn the sheath upside down and shake the crap out of it".

I wonder why Fiskars doesn't market their current line of knives in the US? Today, they make a line that has more in common with a Mora. Because they bought Gerber in the early '90s?  I noticed the line of Puukkos was discontinued about the same time.

Day 26
Today I need to be discreet so it's going to be a neck knife.  This is basically a shiv that you used to be able to buy for $1.99 from BudK who sold it as a survival neck knife.  At some point I rounded off an order and got free shipping by adding this for less than shipping would have cost me.  I figured it would be a throw away, but I kept it.  Chisel ground, it came barely sharp enough to spread jam on toast, but I was able to file a cutting edge on it.  The fact that it could be sharpened with a file leaves some doubt about any sort of heat treatment, but it fits tight in the scabbard and is relatively comfortable in the hand, and as an added bonus the scabbard also has a whistle (don't judge me).

Day 26

Daughter had emergency task for me this morning, had to drive across the county to secure and deliver a science/math project for grandson.

Stopped at Walmart before returning home, no fix blades, BUT did have donut hole assortment.

Had to use back of the I knife to open, I hate those clam shell packaging.

Day 26
i carried the Gerber prodigy today.
i "discovered" this knife when i noticed Stepehen Lang's character in Terra Nova wearing 1 on his leg in nearly every episode.
i enjoyed that show, and was disappointed when it ended. i bought the knife off amazon back then,i forget how long ago.
my son tried to "borrow" it,he already has my Seal Pup.
i really like the Prodigy [yeah i know, cheap steel and whatnot],it feels good in hand, the sheath has multiple options, and is  in that sweetspot of overall length [to me anyway].

Day 26. Rain last night meant I postponed the fence work.

I did have some housekeeping to do instead.

It ain't a challenge unless it involves a vacuum cleaner.  I am not paying $15 for a USED latch (which is just a tiny piece of plastic with no spring included), so I typically just tape it up. I'm currently using CAD to design a replacement so a friend can 3D print it. I've been duct-taping it shut, and duct tape is getting more and more expensive.

Shame that it is not a quality knife (heat treat, steel, edge) because the handle to blade geometry looks like it would be a useful knife to carry especially when want inconspicuous.

Pretty certain I missed tue-wed aka Day25
(I'm a day sleeper so my times/days are slightly offset)

So today I carried both the Mora and the Ozark.
The Mora at work and the Ozark when I went out later since it's thiner and the sheath rides higher.... easier to conceal.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Rumour has it that this old Japanese fixed blade style was first used to liberate sweets for 'I haven't slept but need to do work' related tasks.

I usually don't have too much interest for the annual 'limited edition' Mora knives, but 2020 was such an odd year that I ended up getting one.

Day 26

(Image removed from quote.)

Rumour has it that this old Japanese fixed blade style was first used to liberate sweets for 'I haven't slept but need to do work' related tasks.
In my teens, I was gifted a very similar styled knife, the wood was much lighter almost white, my parents thought it to be a novelty knife, but I knew it was very sharp🙄

I am not sure if it is at my home where I grew up, or if it survived my dad’s house cleaning back when?   He burned all my baseball cards and comic books after I did not return home from college and brothers said they did not want😢

Day 27

(Image removed from quote.)
I usually don't have too much interest for the annual 'limited edition' Mora knives, but 2020 was such an odd year that I ended up getting one.

Is it noted on the knife if it is a limited edition?

I like the color of that one and is guessing it is a 511 work knife.

I have a 1 (4”) in route after securing on the auction site. Wood handle!  This not a 1/0, that size is a shorter blade. I just like the Mora styles, as well as the price.  I used for work cutting cable coverings in the winter, sheathes fitted inside bibs leg pocket and no need to remove gloves in sub freezing temps to access. Bright colors, too. And always sharp.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

What was the pizza topped with?

Easier to conceal.
Concealment is a big PITA in my neck of the woods, thanks to some very poorly written state laws. That's precisely why I don't carry fixies unless I'm on my property or out in the bush.

Fairly busy day for the BLJ....

In addition to opening some new insoles for me boots......

Clipped some string, cut away a few old branches, removed the bark from a stick for the puppy, and opened a sack of compost for the rhubarb.
